General Software Discussion / Re: Search with Bing
« Last post by tomos on December 30, 2009, 03:05 PM »
Example 1: search the following phrase- "The more from it you take, the more it becomes."
Example 2: search the following terms- antidupl doublepics

In each case I'm getting DC results with Bing and no DC results with Google. If you're getting different results, then I obviously have something messed up.

same here for example one

I thought that doPDF and PDF-Xchange Viewer were both free for commercial use.

fully-free software for biz - image editing-viewing - PDF - printing
says yes in both cases

What are 8bf filters, please?

8bfw is the file extension of photoshop filters*
Other image editing programmes started using them as well.

I've seen other related formats, e.g. 8bs, also used by P'shop

*AFAIK there is now a newer format as well (?). I still work with photoshop 5.5 so I wouldnt know ;-)

« Last post by tomos on December 28, 2009, 08:10 PM »
By the way the problem Tomos had with crashing is related to a known problem with an older version of the fsubscript.dll found in some other plugins.
See https://www.donation....msg176615#msg176615 for more info.
:)
entertainingly embarrassing when I get a link to my own advice in response to a problem I report... lol

@Perry Mowbray: I made a few years ago a cryptor/decryptor of such texts for a coding-contest. You can decode the whole bible in only a few seconds with it with very good results - a lot of languages and slangs are supported :D. If you have enough memory you can even calculate new words and grammatical variants that can be used for decoding. It is called the Salatschleuder. I improved it after the contest. So download the final version here if you like.  ;)
Hi Crush
I'm not sure what you mean by "a cryptor/decryptor of such texts" or "You can decode the whole bible" - I presume it's something for coders but I may be wrong... ?

Paul,
do we have to have read the book to understand the idea?

ahh, I see - got to read this first

on first use only I got an error (& crash) but no problems after a restart
error
---------------------------
Find and Run Robot
---------------------------
Access violation at address 0611AFAC. Read of address 0611AFAC.

OK

there was a second error message but then it crashed before I could copy the other.

Seems to be working fine now after restart - I'll be using this one, thanks mouser!

General Software Discussion / Re: Must-have Windows Programs
« Last post by tomos on December 23, 2009, 04:29 PM »
I guess I would say there's programmes I must-have & there's programmes I love :-*
of course (as app says) these reflect how I use my time on my pc. No links, so I add a description of sorts

Love is -
(even though I'm often not a real 'power' user)
Launcher: - FARR (+ especially minicap & most recently used plugins)
Windows manager: - GridMove
Graphics/Drawing: - FreeHand
Information manager (all of it at this stage): - InfoQube
"lets you scroll a window without clicking/focusing it first" (quoting Tranglos!) - KatMouse
AutoHotkey and a lot of mini & not so mini-apps from Skwire & Skrommel and others here on dc

must-have is -
File Managers: - DOpus / Xyplorer (Lucky enough to have Total Commander as well)
Backup: - Super Flexible File Synchronizer
Backup, revisions of files: - FileHamster
Task Manager: - Process Explorer

there's lots of other apps that I maybe love even, but dont get to use a lot e.g. Trout, (music player), or, they are must-haves but I wont mind when I move on to something else e.g. Acronis True Image

Deskangel sounds interesting rudantam - must check if it's customisable... (I avoid middle & double clicks like the plague and have had right-click titlebar closing windows for years...)

Curt, please, what advantages does 2010 have over 2008 for you?
I was curious too -

- none, yet, for the very simple reason that I am trial-testing Microsoft Office 2010 at the moment. I only upgraded SoftMaker  to have it! I have only tried TextMaker.

which has to lead to the question:-
are you trialling MS Office because somethings missing in Softmaker Office ?

And what a great price for a gallon of milk!!  From only $67.99!!

up to $2,500 :tellme: although the $2,499 offer sounds better: "will hand deliver, then come in and make you a Tiramisu with product in your kitchen" :P

N.A.N.Y. 2010 / Re: NANY 2010 Program Idea Suggestion Thread
« Last post by tomos on December 17, 2009, 04:34 PM »
[...] I wrote a program for myself called "Much2Do". [...]

I am particularly interested in feedback concerning these questions:
- Most ToDo programs have checkboxes, do you really need them in a ToDolist?
(I feel that if the item is done it should be removed, so why a checkbox)
- How could the planning part of my desktop application be improved?
- Would you like to have the day planning available in the mobile app as well?
- I plan 100% digital but I stil prefer to print the items for Today on paper,
but being green means you should not print anything. Any suggestions?

I'm going to download your app & try it out, thanks!
- could I suggest starting a new thread and maybe link to it from here

So i guess for me i like the idea of multiple checklists, where i can check each item off a list until that list is complete, and then file that list away into storage.

This would fit in with Mark Forster's AutoFocus 'method' which I'm trying (again)
I would like to comment more but want to try the app first and dont want to take over this thread either . .
