Okay, I have it.

Try entering a proper noun or a name.
Something between .65 and .66 makes capitals screw up the output.

This is why I was getting Billl and Ben in my earlier example.

pinhead -> pinhead
Pinhead -> Pinnhead (trigger on 3)
Pinhead -> Pinhhead (trigger on 4)

Ok! That's what I needed to know - thank you. Fix coming up...

Waaait a second - I'm flying back to the UK next week to freeze my yingyang off? All I can say is that there had better be some danged good pressies waiting for me ;)

Here's a useful phrase.
I am just going outside and may be some time.
Hope that doesn't make you wild!

"Thanks, I just had it stuffed'

LOL!!  And a fitting tribute to the late actor who spoke those words... :)

Ah ha! I knew you guys would pick up on that

He will be missed...

Wow - thank you all very much! Your kind words are appreciated.

I wasn't trolling for sympathy (honest  :-[) but when I found this thread, I reckoned the little guy deserved a tribute.

Thank you very much.

I sure hope I did a good job and gave him a happy year. I shall miss the little guy very badly.

It leaves you wondering how one small animal can be so damned unlucky  :(

I only found this thread today, and I hope my comment here is not inappropriate, but I would like to share:

This is my little dog, Max. We got him about a year ago from a local shelter. He'd been kept alone in a car port, after being given up during a messy divorce. When he was rescued he was a mess - severe ear infections, abscessed teeth, fur falling out and on the verge of giving up.

The good people at http://fureverafter.net/ got him back on his feet and I was lucky enough to adopt him in November last year. (You can read his and many other inspirational stories on the site).

He was a terrific dog in every way - calm, playful, affectionate and wonderful company. I work at home most of the time and he would either play or snooze behind my chair the whole time. He even quickly learned that if the phone rings, it's time to sit quietly until I'm done (see picture below, snapped on my iphone just after a call).

He certainly made his way into our hearts with his antics, doggedness (sorry) and all-around lovely temprament.

Unfortunately, just recently he was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive cancer behind his left eye. We were told that treatment was out of the question and despite a no-expense-spared dash to the best experts we could find in Vancouver, all that could be done for him was palliative care.

After being given only a few weeks to live, our little dog lost his fight this morning. It's going to be a lonely Christmas.

So long old pal.

Sorry about this.
Can't be much fun for you? ? :(

-cranioscopical (December 18, 2010, 04:46 PM)

No, but not because of you :)

Build 67 uploaded. If you still get any issues, can give me a step-by-step please?

This is what I did just a second ago, and it seems fine:

1. Click New
2. Entered 'pinhead' in the Name field
3. Changed Action to Auto-Complete

Switch to (say) Notepad. Type 'I am a pinh<tab>' and sure enough, I am a pinhead appears. (I have a trigger string length of 4)

Pulled .65 from backup — Auto-completes working fine.
Updated to .66 — double letters on any of my own (non-imported) auto-completes, e.g. Billl and Ben.
-cranioscopical (December 18, 2010, 01:22 PM)

Well what on Earth........?  :o

It's fine here, I promise you. I'll upload a b67 very shortly, and would be terribly grateful if you could let me know about that. Maybe I created a duffer somehow, then fixed it without even noticing. (I might be clever like that, who knows?)

it staggers me that folks would spend, say, an hour clicking some dumb tab to earn the charity 10c.

I think you're missing the point of the Chrome for a Cause.

Probably... I didn't look very closely since it reminded me too much of some 'pay per click' thing. Personally I'd rather keep my browsing to myself and just send cash  :-*

Well, I hate to tell you but .66 isn't working well for me.

At the moment, it's sitting maximized with all its menus greyed out and inaccessible. This comes and goes but I don't yet see why.

Also, it's fighting with AllMyNotes (see elsewhere on DC) which previous versions did not do. It'll work for a bit and then block all typing.

Further, an autocomplete which is "Ripley IV" turns up as Rippley IV when I type "Rip" and hit 0 (or Tab) to select what I want. Similarly, Martin gets me Marrtin, and so on.

Also;
  • launch
  • hit close button to minimize
  • restore
  • hit close button to minimize doesn't work again.
The bad news that it's only sometimes and I can't pin down why. This one's really not very important.

Happy Christmas, chum  :o

-cranioscopical (December 17, 2010, 10:57 PM)

My goodness me - and this was supposed to a simple mini-update! I'll try running that AllMyNotes thing and see if that triggers all this stuff. I have Auspex running literally the whole day and never see this stuff  :(

I went 'pro' personally. There's not THAT much difference, but I did want keyword monitoring, so pro it had to be.

Glad to be of service

I bought a copy quite recently, almost on a whim since I thought it would save me a bit of clicking around... and now I would not be without it.

My list would have to be something like:

PowerGrep. Probably the most complete RegEx search and replace tool out there, but with an interface that takes some getting used to.

Check & Get. I bought this and also Website Watcher to compare. For me, personally, Check & Get seems to do a much better job. I gave up on WW when I realised that only the first tab could only really be used. To be honest, a bit of a disappointing program.

TrueCrypt. I use this to keep a secure virtual disk for backup copies of all the code we work on, and a lot of client data.

Frink. Open literally the whole time for those off-the-cuff conversions.

And to keep my desktop pretty: SharpClock, ObjectDock, Rainlendar and Rainmeter.

Oh one other thing worth a mention, that you guys should take a look at: FARR

How about -

JottiQ Scan

To me, the quickest and most effective context menus tell me the app first, because then I immediately remember what they're going to do for me.

I cannot help feeling that these companies are using our charitable motivations to build a cheap marketing list for later on.

Yes, I'm sure that is the case.
I mean there's not much point in downloading this unless you actually have use for it -
but if you do, it's a good app

It looks very good. I'm just old and cynical... it staggers me that folks would spend, say, an hour clicking some dumb tab to earn the charity 10c. The real winners can only be the fat cats behind the promotion.  :(

...It's happy time...

I can never decide if I should laugh or cringe when I see those commercials.

Build 66 uploaded.

Minor changes, with a bigger release coming up shortly, to sweep up quite a few issues that you folks have reported recently.

New Features

    * Improved Splash screen. Appears and updates more smoothly.
    * Replacements always take precedence over Completions (i.e. if you type a Replacement that happens to also match a Completion, you get the Replacement text)
    * Fuzzy matching can now be disabled altogether (set it to zero in the options).
    * Fuzzy matching is now more selective about what is a close match.

Bug Fixes

    * Improved handling of shift keys - smoother text selection, and avoids the 'skip' where you may sometimes deselect all text unexpectedly.
    * Fuzzy items no longer appear multiple times in the pop-up.
    * Fixed the case-sensitive feature for Replacements.
    * Pop-up window closes if you switch applications.
