Beta:

v1.141.01 Beta - April 16, 2014
  • [Improvement] The preferences (configuration tree) dialog was always scrolling the top Options node out of view, making it hard to find.  This top node is now scrolled into view where it is more obvious.
  • [BugFix] Automatic fixing up of form position/size on resolution change was sometimes not being engaged.
  • [Improvement] Clarified onscreen instructions for adding a node that opens a folder.
  • [MinorFeature] The exit menu item on launchbars can be disabled.
  • [Feature] You can now use Ctrl plus Up,Down,Left,Right when in the configuration tree to move nodes around the hierarchy easily.
  • [Feature] Supports use of environmental variables and %APPDIR% like replacements in command launch arguments (needs testing!).
  • [Feature] An error is now reported if user tries to launch a node pointing to a non-existent file (needs testing).
  • [Feature] Added new maintenance menu item to check entire tree for any filepaths that may no longer be valid (user has option for trying to auto fix them).
  • [Bugfix] LBC was not properly identifying full screen applications, causing it not to unhide when it should if current window was maximized (but not full screen); if you have turned off the option to Keep LaunchBars "On Top" and you use AutoHiding docks, you should try re-enabling this option.  Should make it possible to use full screen games without LBC waking up.
  • [MinorFeature] You can now set custom size of separators.
  • [MinorFeature] You can now set custom margins for docking bars.
  • [MinorFeature] You can now set minimum width/height for items (for entire dock or overide for single items).

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Can LBC be transformed into a task bar

At the very least it seems like i should be able to provide a way to specify two fonts(+sizes), one for root level of dock bar and one for the submenu items, etc.

I went to go implement this but found it already exists:

Implemented; will be in next release.

Thank you for letting me know about this so quickly!

I forgot to update a setting to let it know what version it is for update purposes -- that's what happens when i wait 4 months to release an update -- I forget how to do it properly!

New version is uploaded -- if you update once more it should stop giving you that message.

I'm rewatching "The Puffy Chair", an indie movie by the Duplass brothers -- who I think are geniuses.  One of my favorites.

Also, you may want to try landscape orientation if the image is longer than it is tall.

The print *BUTTON* sends the screenshot directly to the printer without a preview.

Try using the Print menu item under the File menu (not the button) at least once, since it shows you a preview where you can change margins to 0.

Let me know if that helps.

« Last post by mouser on April 14, 2014, 09:33 AM »
With SC already running and using the run command I get the "Hello there! You've tried to launch a new copy..." popup. I got a UAC popup 1st asking if I wanted it to run.

thanks bob -- so your single-instance detection is working correctly.
ps. the new beta does away with that "hello there" message.

How strange. Ok i'm looking into it now.

Can anyone else confirm that they get 2 instances or whether their installation properly limits it to a single instance?
My XP and Win7 installs both behave properly.

Ok that's a big clue.  That does *not* happen here (Win 7).
So it seems to me you are experiencing a generic non-specific failure of the single-instance behavior of SC.

Now the question is why.

1. Can anyone else test and see what behavior they see?
2. Lanux -- in your original post you say you end up with 2 instances in tray.  Can I ask you to elaborate? Do you end up with 2 separate copies of the program running? Or just 2 system tray icons?
3. Lanux, can you see if the same behavior happens if you EXIT all running instances, and then start them both up (let the first fully start before launching second) with your new shortcut?

Ok, I'm on it.

Oh, you could do a test for me -- can you make another shortcut to a second instance with NO commandline parameters -- and tell me if it launches a second instance in that case?

Assuming you are sure its launching the same ScreenshotCaptor.exe location as is already running (i.e. not two different versions of SC installed in different locations), then this is a bug, and I will look into it today and try to fix right away.
It shouldn't be launching a second instance.

does that still happen even with the new beta?
7918
The solution that worked for me was manually adding the folders that make up this path...

Actually that is VERY interesting information!

It may suggest that the problem that SC may be having on some of these networked directories is not with the core functionality of reading and writing to those network share directories, but only with some bug in CREATING FOLDERS in those directories?

I would love to hear more about this possibility and any evidence to support it.

Sorry it's been so long since I released an update!

As usual when it's been a while, I'm going to be a little cautious and just release some minor fixes first, then I'll try to dig a little deeper and add some features a little later.

v4.8.2 BETA - April 12, 2014
  • [MinorChange] Removed the discontinued imm.io image hosting service from uploader services; defaulted to imageshack (supporting both anonymous and non-anonymous accounts).
  • [MinorChange] Clarified warning about image files being visible to public if uploaded to anonymous hosting account.
  • [MinorChange] If a second instance is launched, SC no longer displays a warning message, it simply un-minimizes the first instance.
  • [BugFix] Pixelating a tiny region with large grid size could result in floating point error.
  • [BugFix] Red box capture mode was capturing regions that were missing 1 pixel width around each edge.
  • [BugFix] Resizing image from resize form could shrink the close-up zoom panel.
  • [BugFix] Trying to undo from resizing image would not undo object size changes (hit undo twice to do this now).
  • [BugFix] Automoving old screenshots at startup had not been working in recent versions.
  • [MinorFeature] Added option to start the auto-capture timer at startup.
  • [MinorFeature] New option to immediately jump cursor to arrow text edit box when selecting/adding line arrows for quick labeling and label changes (see drawing object options tab).
  • [MinorFeature] Added option to disable docking behavior of Quick Capture Bar.
  • [MinorFeature] Added detailed warning and confirmation dialog with tips before attempting to resize an image containing objects.

Download link in first post of thread.  I'd appreciate any beta reports.

I can definitely see the use of it.. I am just always hesitant to make those kinds of things that change system registry.. There are some good free tools you could use to do it yourself:

FARR should run fine on any resolution, though as with all of my apps, the options dialog may have small fonts.

As for right click menu item, you mean add a menu item to your windows explorer file browser to add an item to FARR?

There is already a right-click add alias item in farr itself, so if you search for an item in far (or use directory browsing option in farr), you can right-click to add an alias for it.

Living Room / Re: DonationCoder Recipe Sharing Thread
« Last post by mouser on April 11, 2014, 04:20 AM »
I posted my blue cheese ranch dressing recipe earlier.
Now I'm going to tell you about the salad i've been making and eating lately, which i use the dressing on:

First, I make large batches of the basic salad and store in zip lock bags which i eat over the course of a week:
  • 1 part Iceberg lettuce
  • 2 part red romaine or red leaf lettuce
  • 1 part spinach
  • some red cabbage
  • lots of shredded radishes
  • a little shredded carrot
  • lots of chickpeas (garbanzo beans; canned)
  • Red and orange peppers, diced

Now here's the part you may think sounds disgusting, but is delicious:
  • Fill a smallish (cereal bowl size?) bowl with cubed/pressed tofu and sliced mushrooms
  • Coat tofu and mushrooms lightly in soy sauce
  • Add a big handfull of grated cheddar cheese
  • Stir to mix.
  • Microwave for 5 minutes until cheese melts
  • Mix the tofu/mushroom/cheese into the salad.

Delicious!
