Seems like a nice tool .

One issue: I haven't been able to get it to not read my Mercurial folders -- I added '!\.hg' to the sub directory filter in the settings, but it still loads all the files from there.

Maybe it would even be a good idea to exclude folders from SCM software by default?

http://techcrunch.co...r-only-10-per-month/

http://www.bitcasa.com/

So .. another unlimited storage offer.

However, they de-duplicate data accross customers:

https://spideroak.co...-worry-you-if-we-did

They also claim to client-side encrypt all data, yet you can share files and folders by sending people a link (*cough* dropbox *cough*).

Sounds cheap, but personally my first impression doesn't make me want to store all my private data there :-[.

Btw, the comments on the two posts on their blog are quite amusing.

1. Have you people completely lost you minds?!?

Ok, I think since this initially came up as a weekend thing, we probably owe it to people to try to explain the madness. It started with some relaxed TGIF discussion in the irc channel (this is an excerpt, I omitted some stuff):

[16:23] <@Stephen66> Im going to dedicate this weekend to trolling the DC forum
[16:24] <@mouser> :)
[16:24] <@mouser> what does that even mean trolling the dc forum
[16:26] <@Stephen66> Quote stuff, then put the source as a completely different website
[16:26] <@Stephen66> RickRoll everybody
[16:27] <Jibz> post "funny" cat pictures as replies to everything
[16:27] <@Stephen66> lmfao yeah
[16:28] <@Stephen66> pure image replies
[16:28] <@Stephen66> even when I have something constructive to say...add my reply, over pictures of furry animals
[16:28] <Jibz> I bet you could make a script that just grabbed a random picture off icanhascheezburger and replies with it
[16:28] <@Stephen66> more fun to manually do it
[16:29] <Jibz> mouser is sitting there going "hmm, this is not going to end well"
[16:29] <@Stephen66> means I get to go through stupid websites for stuff
[16:29] <@Stephen66> lol
[16:29] * @mouser nods

And from there it kind of just escalated, and most of it ended up in this thread. It was fun to see other people chime in .

I haven't looked into this, but I would imagine the hard part is rather to make your client work with the proprietary protocols? Putting a good UI on top of it is a plus of course.

i'm an occasional user of Miranda IM (don't do IM much) but if you're looking for some eye-candy, you may want take a look at Digsbyw.

The stuff listed under privacy concerns on the wikipedia page for Digsby does not make me feel warm and fuzzy about it I must admit.

Just adding a couple of real-time choices, even though you say you've given up on them; Bvckup and AutoVer.

I'm glad hiding it looks at least reasonably usable, thanks for the screenshot.

Btw, anyone else mildly amused by the fact that they removed the menu, added the ribbon, added tabs to the ribbon, and now it more or less looks like the menu used to in the above screenshot? :D

This image is from the MS blog post about it, check the critique here as well.

Personally I have never been a big fan of the ribbon, I think it is the mix of large and small icons that makes it look cluttered to me. I can see how it might make it possible to fit in more actions, but frankly I often find I spend way too much time looking for the ones I actually need.

At any rate, I am sure it will help people who aren't capable of using keyboard shortcuts and context menus to use explorer, and provide a colorful (150 pixel height!) distraction for me :P.

Like I mentioned here, two things get me about this.

Firstly, as much as you may advocate their right to make money from the site, I know a lot of developers struggle to make a living without resorting to putting adware into their software. For them to go and add adware and take the money is a slap in the face.

And secondly, I feel this is a shift of advertisement from their website and onto executables running on my computer (perhaps even with admin privileges), which is not something I really like.

Anyone know if the downloader is localized or English only? If it submits any "non-personal information"?

Some good comments in that JoS thread btw.

General Software Discussion / Re: Google+
« Last post by Jibz on August 03, 2011, 01:20 PM »
mahesh2k is actually right in his first line;

Anyone can follow any other profile in Google+ and you've no control over who can follow you.

Anyone can view the content that you choose to make publicly available (welcome to the internet!). Where I think he is misinterpreting things is that following someone is not the same as friending on FB (not as a one-way action anyway).

If someone follows you on G+, it means that your public posts will show up in their stream, nothing more. They would be able to see those public posts by going to your profile as well, that is the whole point of "public". There is no relation the other way unless you choose to follow them back.

What they can see is the public parts of your profile and your public posts, which (by definition) anybody can. If you are posting something that you do not want everybody to be able to see, don't share it with everybody, share it with your circles.

If you choose to block them, it means that you will never get any posts from them if they try to share something with you, they cannot comment on your posts -- they can't even +mention you.
796
Btw, for anyone ordering it, on the last page you accept that they enable auto-renewal (i.e. they automatically bill you every year from now on). If you are not interested in this, make sure you log into the control panel thingy as described, and disable it .
797
By the way - the advertisement page says $9.95, but when you go to make a purchase it's actually $10.99.

Note enough to bother with tracking down someone to fix it. But irritating enough to whine about it here  :-\ ...

I think that might be because it is an offer for Australian customers, and 9.95 AUD is roughly 11 USD.

Most sites where you upload stuff to have it shown to other people have something along those lines in their legalese, Ryan Estrada made this nice TOS to English picture (yes, that's a link to a G+ post, *twilight zone theme* etc. :P):

Maybe the '% Free' column could have a visual indication of the amount of free space? Like fill that percentage of the background of the cell with a different color, a bit like in TreeSize.
