So we are worried someone has invented communications without needing layer 1? How likely is that?

My point is a security guy thinks a machine running on battery is functionally different than on cord. If you are worried about data moving up or down you need to remove communications interfaces and hardware, even if you are worried about data over power lines.
780
So why start the sentence with 'even when their'?
781
"even when their power cords ... were removed"

Any discussion after this?

The aforementioned Ghacks of course, outlinersoftware.com for good discussions on PIMs, outliners and lastly mine ..... kidding (even if good it's in hiatus)

Further to the ethics points, I am seeing a surprising number of people, not companies, pay up.

Pay for the likes of MBAM pro and you are half, it's never a full step anymore, a step ahead

More nuclear wars

Patent war goes nuclear: Microsoft, Apple-owned “Rockstar” sues Google

Canada-based telecom Nortel went bankrupt in 2009 and sold its biggest asset—a portfolio of more than 6,000 patents covering 4G wireless innovations and a range of technologies—at an auction in 2011.

Google bid for the patents, but didn't get them. Instead, they went to a group of competitors—Microsoft, Apple, RIM, Ericsson, and Sony—operating under the name "Rockstar Bidco." The companies together bid the shocking sum of $4.5 billion.

Patent insiders knew that the Nortel portfolio was the patent equivalent of a nuclear stockpile: dangerous in the wrong hands, and a bit scary even if held by a "responsible" party.

This afternoon, that stockpile was finally used for what pretty much everyone suspected it would be used for—launching an all-out patent attack on Google and Android. The smartphone patent wars have been underway for a few years now, and the eight lawsuits filed in federal court today by Rockstar Consortium mean that the conflict just hit DEFCON 1.

Some cards (especially RealTek) don't play well. Intermittent, random disconnects.

...

If there are any ideas we can split this off to new thread.

One idea is to investigate the following:

Wireless section of a page for a Lenovo machine with Realtek RTL8188CE

Probably have to live with the laptop wired and/or install linux on a desktop. Only other possibility is updated Kernel, with Mint 15 or other distro.

General Software Discussion / Re: Is the day of the paid OS over?

The Apple hype machine is way too strong. Mavericks is not far from a SP or an upgrade like 8.1, both free. I have checked many "what's new" articles (because admittedly I am not a user) and if you have paid for 10.6+ (for example), why should this NOT be free?

Actually, there's a lot new over mountain lion.

A good overview - http://arstechnica.c...e/2013/10/os-x-10-9/

24 pages.  And it's not fluff.

Hate to be argumentative but I really see too much 'enhancement' (like 'scrolling was unacceptable before but now this and that') in those pages.
But like I said I don't want to sound like I want an argument/discussion on this :)

Thanks. Some cards (especially RealTek) don't play well. Intermittent, random disconnects. There are 1000s of thread just on linuxmint.com and ubuntuforums.org forums. I have tried some tweaks like wireless card power management, etc.

This is is my unanswered post there posted few months ago http://forums.linuxm...hp?f=53&t=141939

Look at that forum if you want, there are many similar ones, some solved somehow, many not.

If there are any ideas we can split this off to new thread.

Of course this is not wholly on topic but ... please Linux people fix various Linux wifi issues so that I can dump Windows even more quickly.
