General Review Discussion / Re: Dated reviews
« Last post by nudone on September 15, 2010, 05:37 AM »
Good point. I did the review with ACDSee in it and I can't say the information is that useful now. Well, maybe as just an introduction to Photo/Image Management programs it might be slightly helpful - but only as a starting point before looking elsewhere.

Unfortunately, time constrainsts don't really allow for updating the review with the latest software; so the word "Archive" probably ought to be displayed very prominently on those review pages.

Cody's wing holding the chopsticks as it plucks out something from a bowl full of alphabet soup style programming acronyms/languages.

i could, probably, put that together. there is also the question of black bowl on black t-shirt - are you going to see the image. does the bowl need to be a different (lighter) colour. and that shadow under the bowl - may as well be removed completely; i doubt the transparency will look good on any t-shirt (well, it will look like it's a cheap t-shirt print - just my opinion, of course).

i spoke too soon. the motion le1700 has just arrived.

i'll try to do a proper review/comparison this week - but, so far, i'm pleased with what i've seen (not too sure about the brightness of the screen - a bit dull). it feels quite light for its size, quiet and the pen accuracy appears to be better then my wacom cintiq (i always thought my wacom cintiq had lousy pen accuracy - for a specialist machine it is downright pathetic).

anyway, i'll try not to blow it up with an external dvd drive and then i'll report back in a few days.

still waiting for the motion le1700 to arrive - starting to get a little concerned over that (not heard from the selller, yet).

the cheap tc1100 has arrived. i can now see why it was so cheap. it looks like someone has built it out of scraps bits of hardware lying around - or they've never once put it inside a padded case. it works but it's pretty useless - the power socket is too temperamental and for some strange reason it doesn't work with the keyboard from the previous (dead) tc1100. also the case is very battered and the screen has a few lengthy scratches.

so, it looks like i'm going to have to dismantle both tc1100s and try and build a "good" machine out of them. i'm not looking forward to it so i think it will be a project i'll just forget about for a few months - or years.

hopefully the motion le1700 will be so amazing i won't even care about the money wasted on the tc1000s.

hmm, right. does that mean i was meant to just design something and that was all?

i hadn't because i've been waiting for more feedback and comments about what the design is meant to be.

i just thought everyone had lost interest in the t-shirt(s).

yeah, think i'd be just crying with happiness too - PayPal could keep the money for months if need be - provided i got it in the end.

will do.

hopefully, i'll be able to do a decent comparison between the machines. i only went for the motion tablet because i'd seen a review saying it was the natural replacement for the tc1100. so, it will be interesting to see how they compare - ignoring their hardware age difference i suppose.

call me insane but...

i've just bought another tc1100 on eBay. only £80 !!! (that's £100 less than the one i blew up).

okay, it's not a perfect machine this time: pen missing, 512 meg, nipple doesn't work on the keyboard - possible light scratches on the screen. BUT, it works.

i'll use the ram from the old machine (an extra 512) and the keyboard. then i'm back to what i had before the fatal "pop" sound.

i just thought £80 for a tc1100 couldn't be ignored - i mean, i'd enquired about having the broken machine repaired and that was going to cost, at least, £80. so, i've saved money, haven't i... right?

i'm still waiting for the other tablet (motion) to arrive - i've no idea what i'm going to do with two tablets (and a wacom cintiq). maybe the motion one will get sold???

i challenge Shades for worst connection (my upload is slower):

0049.JPG

i pay for a faster line but the local exchange can't provide it to my location. i once had them change it so i got twice the download speed - but with dropped connections about every minute, i.e. useless.

p.s.
and i now do a lot of web work, having to check websites and ftp stuff up and down all day - it's fantastic the amount of time i waste, waiting for things to complete.

edit:
can't complain, cranioscopical's got the worst deal. oh dear.

erm, Verifiled. erm, can't think of anything else. (seems to be an available name, at least, in google.)

is it something like the page doesn't think you are logged into your google account?

maybe the "reply" link suddenly appears at the bottom when your login is detected.

(i'm sure you've already tried that - perhaps it just isn't accepting your login.)

edit:
oh, i see from the screengrab you are logged in. hmm. don't know what's going on there then.

nudone...if i could find a motion tablet like you did for half-price, I'd strongly consider it.
i think there were two available at the time - but it is the UK eBay; so, it's probably not worth the trouble with the shipping.

here's another - cheaper, less RAM: http://cgi.ebay.co.u...;hash=item4aa45980b4

Finished Programs / SOLVED: ahk script similar to winkey + space on Win 7
« Last post by nudone on September 03, 2010, 10:49 AM »
(as usual, i've tried to do this and decided after an hour of searching/messing about - i can't do it.)

i'd like an .ahk script that performs similar to the "winkey + space" combo on Win7 - which makes all visible windows transparent UNTIL THE WINKEY IS RELEASED.

that's the important bit - i want to enable something whilst keys are down, then disable the action when releasing the windows key (very much like how alt+tab works, or winkey + tab).

it seems like it ought to be simple and i'm sure it is if you a well versed with the language of ahk.

so, to be a little more precise, here's what i'd like to do.

1. hit winkey + anotherkey

2. action happens, e.g. focussed window becomes transparent (temporarily). note: winkey is still held down.

3. release winkey, action stops, e.g. focussed window returns to opaque.

i'd like to have other actions happen with other winkey combos so the ahk script just needs to "Send" keys as the action. hopefully, i can then just edit the script to perform other Send hotkey combinations (which will, mainly, trigger ActualWindowManager actions).

i know AHK can perform transparency and roll-up but i've already got this covered with AWM - it's just the toggle feature with the winkey that i need AHK for.

i've found there is a problem with holding the combo keys down as it cycles the action continuously, i.e. windows cycles through transparency to opaque to transparent to opaque, etc., etc.

so, the down hotkeys need to initiate the action, which "Sends" the associated hotkeys to ActualWindowManager...

...then, whilst the winkey is still down, the AWM hotkeys are released and remain released - thus, preventing the rapid cycling problem...

...then, the winkey is released, which then triggers the very same ActualWindowManager hotkey combination that was used in the first place.

hopefully that makes sense - and isn't impossible to do with AutoHotKey.

Thanks

The tablet style will have better balance so it could actually be better.
I really hope so, otherwise it's a pretty pointless device - something i should have thought more about when i was telling myself i must have it.

the drama continues...

i'd put in an "offer" on eBay, not realising that if the offer is accepted - i've won the item. i thought it was just an offer - like a suggestion, maybe i'll buy the item, maybe i won't.

so, offer accepted, i've won. i'd changed my mind (a little bit) overnight about whether i wanted to spend £750 on a tablet. but the decision has been made for me; my gmail inbox says so - the tablet is mine. so i've paid.

this is what's on the way: http://www.motioncom...s/tablet_pc_le17.asp

0048.JPG

if it's better than my Wacom Cintiq 12WX then i'll be happy. if it weighs so much i can't hold it or rest it on my knee then it's back to pencil and paper.

okay, i'll admit that i'm a very annoying person that can't make up his own mind...

i've seen another tc1000 on eBay. cheaper (3/4 of the price) than what i paid originally, but with half the RAM. i could get that, stick my extra RAM in and then sell the dud machine as spares.

the issue is: is this a better idea than getting a Motion tablet, a machine with modern hardware and specs but costing nearly £800 second-hand (over four times the amount i paid for the tc1000).

i may never use either machine - as both may be too much trouble - so, the cheapest option sounds like the best idea. just for me to have a bit of fun until i get bored of the device.

heheh. okay. i'll stick it on ebay.

i've already moved on and completely forgotten about the tc1100. there's a tablet (that i knew nothing about) called a Motion LE1700 that has the features that are lacking with the tc1100, i.e. wide viewing angle, larger screen, longer battery - and up-to-date hardware like core duo.

the thing is. it's a great deal more expensive too. it might even be more sensible to just buy another tc1000 on eBay or pay for it to be repaired. but, i suppose, it's better to buy a machine that does what you really want - rather than compromise and never be satisfied with the "bargain" purchase.
