A revision creation is currently being triggered by ctrl+S of watched item.

Is it possible to have this program create a revision only when I select a button (that would be visible in the alert upon ctrl+S)?

I've been looking for this too for a while - they have implemented something in the latest update (1.7.0.3761). You need to have the pop-up bubble notifier activated:

if you close the popup bubble before it fades away, the revision will not be saved - I'm doing this with files that take a while to get saved (couple of seconds). I havent tested it with instant saves e.g. text files. You can extend the time the popup bubble will show so as to make it easier to close.

This is a big plus for me as I backup my Filehamster backups online. Also a big plus if you're working on big files.

they nice too but I do prefer the older one in this case - but I know what you mean - I thought I had heard it before, but it could just as easily have been something similar from the last couple of decades - aaagh getting old[er] :)

Off-topic - how do you embed a video? I know you can get the embed code below the youtube video but it's not bbcode - doh - I see the youtube button...
I already posted the link but here's the embedded vid (test):

preview says invalid youtube link ...

Aha! I just need to add the link - i'll have to make a complaint - that's just too simple  >:( :p

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FarrUninstall plugin - v1.02
« Last post by tomos on August 12, 2010, 04:33 AM »
I'm getting a virus warning (Avira AntiVir) on a file:
C:\Program Files\FindAndRunRobot\Plugins\FarrUninstall\FarrUninstallFarrUninstall1.0.0.0.exe

First I should say that this file was NOT downloaded from this site.
The initial response from Avira on uploading this file is that this is a virus. This and another plugin exe, and a bunch of other files in other programmes (Filehamster, Softmaker) which were all created at the same time, and most have 'doubled-up' names like this one. I think I know what did it too - I got hit by a driveby download a while back, but I have to check my records for dates

I hope it doesnt cause problems for FARR or FARR plugins :(

I have removed a couple of posts as they seemed overall counter productive to this entire situation.

I didnt like some of the posts here, but re the ones you removed:
the first post started obnoxiously but both post had good advice for the OP, personally I think it's inappropriate to delete both of them. (Posts which are not spam have not been lightly deleted here at dc in the past - I'd hate to see it become a new style)

I'm presuming it's a false positive, yet when I download the plugin from the first post I dont see this file included.

In the heat of the moment it seemed to me after reading the long thread about the gpl and talking to gothic, that the right thing to do was to immediately remove the exe and notify you guys and take it from there.  that was a judgement call that i made, and i may have been wrong in doing so.

It does seem pretty [unintentionally] harsh to me to do that without prior notification - also in the context that it was being openly discussed - but you've explained the hows & whys & I hope that Markham reads them as they seem fair & honest to me.

[edit] * I added 'unintentionally' cause I know mouser & I know he didnt mean to offend in any way which as said is also clear from his posts [/edit]

another oldie and very goodie
Neu! from 1972 - I've heard it before but couldn't say where or when. The track is called Hallogallo

on vinyl :)

But why they have different content or why one doesn't redirect to the other - I don't know.  I assume that some marketing person (or people) think they need to keep rarlab.com for the geekier customers, and have win-rar.com cater more to your everyday average computer user.

they certainly look like that!
7609
I do like what you've done on the left there..what is that, by the way?  Are those drives?  Did you just take the drive buttons and stack them vertically?

Just drag the appropriate toolbar to wherever you'd like it in the lister - you need to make sure the toolbar drag bars are turned on.
 (see attachment in previous post)
it looks like you have a couple of things there that are not drives.  how did you do that?

See my post here for my drive toolbar which adds things that aren't drives.

sorry superboyac, I missed those queries :-[
thanks 4WD for answering! I actually set it all up (or most of it) manually years ago myself.

There are a few tricks that I'm no longer sure how to do -
~ 'pushing' the buttons in the toolbar to the top and bottom of the window (but adjusting to window size) but maybe that happens naturally, I dont know.
~ keeping the toolbar from getting wide (I like the narrowness of the column in my one) - I think that might be simply keeping the text content short (?)

They're mostly drives, the first two are Arbeitsplatz & Eigene Dateien (a hangover from my last XP which was in german = My Computer & My Docs)
CD is optical drive
P is (left/right click) programme folder/ portable 'install' folder
S is software-download-folder / screenshots folder

does anyone know if the winrar license is still a lifetime one ? (couldnt see there on their site)

What's up with my line smoothing (anti-aliasing?)?  Look at the picture below, it's so jagged and rough.  Is this normal? (see attachment in previous post)

mine looks exactly the same... :-(
Hmmm...that sucks.  I was hoping it was a problem i could fix. [...]

it could well be fixable - I just dont know how. I didnt have clear type turned on - I have now & it still looks the same ;)

I wonder if mac hardware/software is that much better - my monitor is fairly good & most stuff looks very good on it - they possibly just avoid graphics that will look like crap (I mean look at MS's history of lovely graphics :'( )

[shameless_plug] For Windows 7 themes I recommend Slate or Linear  ;)

ooohh! Slate is really nice
7614
well, to me the best XP theme is classic (modified)
I like my current one which I've had at least 6 months now
I guess I'm cheating a bit if I show Dopus which I did have to be tweak a lot to 'fit in'

Screenshot 021.png

Re fonts I'm not much help I guess cause I'm still using Tahoma in the windows theme. No idea what I'm using in Dopus, probably default
I changed all the icons to Tango using 'Tango Patcher' - after reboot it always tells me some didnt take and do I want to reboot - I dont have the option to tell it not to show the message again, so everytime I have to click [No Way Do I Want To Reboot]
I have grey desktop & grey 'backdrop' within apps - which had to be custom-added to dopus viewer and viewer pane

thanks cmpm, I got it earlier today

Presumably this free pro download is pre-licensed and doesn't allow updating ???

That's correct

I usually use WinRar for extracting (right click file and extract) and rarely come across anything it can't handle.

I use Winzip for archiving (right click and archive) because the preferred format for distribution on the web is .zip and I don't want to fuss with doing things the more difficult way and actually run an application first and mess with settings to make a .zip.

In WinRAR if you pick the plain add to archive option from the context menu, you can then select compress as .zip in the dialog that opens. Granted it is a extra step, but it's not a real tricky one.

you can set default WinRar 'profile' to be compress to *.zip
Context menu: Add to archive -> Then select your settings (zip etc) ->Click 'Profile' ->Save current settings to a new profile. ->Tick 'Set profile as default'
That will then show in your context menu as Add to "SelectedFileName.zip"

I'm a very basic user of this type of software, but I use WinRar to compress & mostly Dopus to read/copy out of archives

another +1 for Spin Docktor or Spin Doctor -
I actually prefer it without the k, even though I know it makes more sense with 'Dock'

Only thing is, it sounds like it fixes your HD. :)

oh well...

If you combined the previous two comments you could have Spin Docktor.

+1 for that one

VueScan is mentioned a good bit - always very positively - at http://www.imaging-resource.com

VueScan Review - but from 2004
Epson V600 Scanner - scanning colour negatives with the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner and VueScan - September 2009
CanoScan 9000F - scanning slides with SilverFast & VueScan - May 2010

and the competition:
Silverfast Review - also an older review: "Updated: 6/7/07"

Nice idea(s) :)
Welsh words look beautiful I always find, but I never have a clue how to pronounce them - it's even worse than Irish that way I think...

Good point about the 'Dock' word - but it is, (for want of a better description) a 'guiding' word - people know straight away what it's about

It wouldn't be wrong if they would start from Markham's code, add no features to it, then get rid of all of Eric's and Markham's code, and then charge money for that.
Same as above.

Unfortunately, that didn't happen. They still have GPL'd code in there. Both the CD team and the "chinese pirates".

I think that seem's pretty clear - that the GPL'd code should go if it's going to be commercialised
7625
wow,
I've just scanned it :D so far and read a few section more closely, it looks a great review
thanks Brahman !
