Screenshot Captor / Re: v2.00.09 up
« Last post by Carol Haynes on September 09, 2005, 03:37 PM »
I am still having problems with thumbnails not being shown properly.

Strangely I am having the same problem with version 1.2.7 now.

Obviously something odd is happening at my end.

In Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options I have checked "Don't cache thumbnails", but that hasn't made a difference.

Thumbnails in Windows Explorer are working fine - which is strange because SC seems to use the Windows Explorer engine to  display the thumbnails ???

Any ideas ??? :wallbash:

Yep, that's what I was think scrolling - or even x-fading - wallpaper for the desktop.

I have to say though a priority for that sort of thing would have to be low system impact -you don't want your wall paper eating 50% of CPU

I have purged my screenshots folder completely and then reloaded the program.

I captured a number of items but the thumbnails are not updating properly - I had 4 different images, but 3 had the same thumbnail ???

I am captuing in GIF format, no other files in the Capture folder.

The only software I have added recently is the new QuickTime and iTunes, but I can't see why that should make any difference.

Thanks, that works fine. Good fun potential ;)

Actually my files are wallpaper size (I specifically chose a folder where I store wallpapers).

If this is running on the desktop is there anyway it could be made to run behind desktop items?

I am getting a number of odd things happening with 2.00.07

1) Sometimes the thumbnail list is listed as an Explorer 'details' type display

2) I am getting regular Access Violation errors, particularly associated with the browser pane.

After an Access Violation Error all sorts of odd things start to happen - duplicate thumbnails (for different files) for one.

I have tried uninstalling, cleaning the install folder and then reinstalling but still get the same probs.

You're quite right.

I had mouse gestures in FireFox some time ago, reinstalled my system and forgot to get the extension again ... duh!

Actually I am quite taken with Maxthon and am going to give it a whirl for a while ...

It was addressed to you

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to acheive.

If you want a streaming file to try (whatever you trying to on) you could you could use URL Snooper 2 in the downloads section to find the URL.

There is loads of stuff availble for streaming download at BBC Radio, try here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/

Here is one you could try: rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/scotland/radioscotland/demand/dailyfeature/rs_feature2_tue.rm

it is a 30 minute radio programme "Muriel Gray's Trip off the Tongue" from a recent Radio Scotland broadcast. (She can be a wicked wee lassie too)

Any file that you can see on the internet can be downloaded with a download manager?

The only ones you can't easily download are hidden behind scripts, and then you need a browser to execute the scripts.

What are you trying to do ?

Can't remember - I have been using 1.1 so it may be specific to that version.

It was in the look and feel options (sorry can't remember the specific name of the options as my server is down at the mo).

How have you placed the menu bar at the top of this forum (above the Blue banner)?

Could you add in the 'up' and 'down' bottons in the forum config settings. (They are effectively top of page/bottom of page buttons)

I don't know about other people but I use the unread messages button most of the time, but it is at the top of the screen, meaning long threads have to be scrolled back to the top to go back to the button.

Out of curiosity, having never heard of it before, I downloaded Maxthon and quite like it (even though I had stopped using Internet Explorer).

Not everything in IE works in Maxthon, but GetRight certainly does, and RoboForm works fine.

It is even donation ware which should bring some smiles here ;)

See http://www.maxthon.com/

Main advantages are queuing up and scheduling downloads.

Also even with broadband a CD size download can take some time, if you can resume download following a connection glitch it is really useful.

One of the useful things I find in GetRight is its browser, I have found lots of files that way ;) I know there are better tools for this sort of thing but it is a quick method already in my system tray.

For small downloads they aren't really necessary any more, as you say.

PS I forgot to say. If you take out the Plus version some of the money raised is used to send used computers to developing countries (at least it has in the past - not sure if this is still happening).

Some is also used in 'sponsor a child' schemes, with a number of children receiving support and a regular feature of the newsletter is updates on how the children a getting on.

Given that Maxthon is based on Internet Explorer -the website say "which means that what works in the IE browser will work the same in Maxthon tabbed browser but with many additional efficient features". See http://www.maxthon.com/

You may find that any download manager (such as GetRight) which integrates into Internet Explorer should work seamlessly with Maxon too.

Even if it doesn't GetRight can monitor the clipboard for URLs and offer to download files with extensions you monitor for. In this case all you would have to do is point to the download, right click and copy the URL to the clipboard for GetRight to take over the download.

See www.getright.com for info about Getright and http://www.headlight...p;submit1=Search#195 for Maxthon support (picked up from the site search engine).

It was one of those issues that drives you nuts. With broadband, ironically, I am not nearly as dependent on GetRight as I used to be, and Firefox download manager doesn't seem to be afflicted by the same problem. The double downloads were very annoying though, and not really sustainable when you download large files!

Hi I'm a fan.

You can always read the current free issue at http://www.langa.com/#c

Fred has a wealth of information and write columns for InformationWeek.

The newsletter is always very informative with lots of support type issues (dead hard disks etc), suggestions for good procedures (Windows setup, configuration, backup), lots of recommended software (that's how I found DonationWare.com).

There is also a good community feel - although you only really get to see the edited highlights that Fred choses for the newsletter - thought there are online forums too, and links to some articles at InformationWeek.

Note there are two versions of the newletter: one is free and is ad supported, the other is by subscription and is ad free, and also has extra 'Plus' content.

The Plus subscription is dirt cheap and well worth getting. It is $13.50 for a year, and there are two issues most weeks. See http://www.langa.com/plus.htm for details. The regularly updated searchable archive is worth it alone!

I have subscribed to Fred's list now for a few years, and it is one of the few newsletters I get that is read from beginning to end with every issue.

Check it out.
