« Last post by Jibz on July 15, 2016, 04:00 PM »
I just noticed the two of you have the same quote in your signatures:

Jibz: "A problem, properly stated, is a problem on it's way to being solved" -Buckminster Fuller
Ath: "A problem well stated is a problem half-solved." (Charles Kettering)

;D

Actually, googling a bit suggests many people have come to that conlusion. John Dewey and Dorothea Brande are also attributed an equivalent quote.

Some comments:

My Nexus 5 is running quite hot after 5 mins of play. Would it help to turn off the fancy backgrounds?

A back button on the stage complete screen would be nice.

The time and move counters are teensy weensy tiny on a 5" display.

At level completion, I would prefer a dialog with level complete and a next button instead of the fireworks (5 second waste of time).

Could it not ask me to create a google play ID every time the game starts?

The stage select left/right scrolling is too fast -- to go one item left or right you can only move your finger a tiny bit.

Doing step two, I get "We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server." from Google Play.

Working now it seems .

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: 14 days with SmugMug and Zenfolio
« Last post by Jibz on July 10, 2016, 04:31 AM »
Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but I thought I should note that I recently changed from Zenfolio to SmugMug.

Zenfolio has worked well for me, and their customer support has always been helpful.

But I've had some issues with uploading to Zenfolio from Chrome over the years, and their interface had gotten really slow to use from my location. So I gave SmugMug another trial while they were offering a discount, and found they had resolved many of the issues I mentioned in my original post.

So I will be trying SmugMug for the next couple of years, will see how that goes .

So what is a good alternative? I haven't tried it, but I've heard NoMachine mentioned?

No games found, apparently you need a public steam profile for this to work. I can see it says so now, I didn't notice it yesterday.

I don't know if it's my browser, but the two links you provided are the exact same article on two different sites?

That seems a bit far fetched -- the GPL covers the code, not the API.

Using Ninite (double-click the 'N' on your desktop if something needs updating), Chrome (keeps itself and flash updated) along with a good adblocker and WoT (only click links with a green thingy next to them when you google) has worked reasonably for my relatives. But there are people who insist on clicking every banner that says "Your computer is in danger!", and they are hard to help.

I would be tempted to suggest a Chromebook for some of my family members as well. You just have to be sure they will not end up needing to run some software that requires Win/Mac. We bought a Chromebook for our son to take to school, since they were using google docs for schoolwork. I think it is a very nice device, and I certainly am thrilled at the prospect of not having to update software and OS myself. (For anyone interested, it's a Dell Chromebook 11 Touch. I chose that because it's light, reasonably sized, can take a beating, and has a keyboard that can survive a spill. He's really happy he got the Touch version, probably mostly because he likes to play games.)

Another option is to make sure a backup plan is in place that allows you to roll back the computer to a working state.

I must admit I have been using the Win10 start menu alongside FARR recently. It is okay for launching some programs.

Had a chance to try it now, really nice work  (as usual :P).

One thing I noticed; Under Logical volumes there are my usual drives, and one listed as just [Serial]. When I click it, there is no information about what this volume is used for as far as I can tell.

But if I click the physical storage device it is on, and expand the partition table, it says "Windows RE (Recovery Environment)" under Type. I think this information would be helpful in the page for the Logical volume.

Okay, fair enough. Maybe note that the app requires admin rights on the page? if it says "just download and run", some people might try it on work computers where they do not have admin rights.

The UI looks very nice, I'll try and run it with admin rights later on.

Would it be possible to display any useful information even without admin privileges?

I am sorry -- I am sure this is a very nice product, but posting the exact same advertisement statement in 7 different threads on the forum borders on spam imho.

Looks interesting, going to have to keep an eye on that.

I think it is hard to compete with Photoshop because it is such a kitchen sink.

General Software Discussion / Re: Comparative review of password managers
« Last post by Jibz on February 25, 2016, 01:52 AM »
I've more or less switched from LastPass to Sticky Password for web passwords. It has the same auto-fill capabilities, but stores the database locally and lets you choose if you wish to sync it through WiFi or their cloud. No linux support sadly.

It's more expensive then LastPass though, but I got the lifetime premium really cheap at a sale.

I still use KeePass for other programs and passwords I want to keep more secure.

I've been meaning to try out SpiderOaks Encryptr.

Sadly the offer does not extend to the lifetime addon. Of course I can understand the author needs to make money when selling a license without the prospect of people buying upgrades, it's just that .. well .. it's outside my price range :-[.

Just completed the checkout, but Drive still shows 15gig... does it take a while before the extra gigs are added?
Think so yes, mine showed 15GB right after as well, but today it says 17GB.

Catch looks interesting. I would definitely pick something lightweight and portable. Also, if you run the tests on CI it is important they are reproducible.

Admittedly this is becoming harder and harder with GitKraken which is really nice.  :-*

I looked at it the other day, and it seems quite interesting. I like that it does not call out to git-on-windows. Not sure about the license agreement, which looks more like a NDA.
