I already had the site bookmarked but only vaguely remember reading about it.  I never tried it out, but that has now been remedied.  Great work!

With Foldershare/Live Sync going away and the replacement not working on XP, are there any plans to make this work across remote machines?  This simple interface with remote support would be killer.  Any plans for a portable (non-installer) version?

The web site looks great too.  I followed the Yaletown Software Design link to read more about the design team and was surprised to see it was you.  Being a skilled developer as well as a talented designer is a rare, but fantastic combination.  The UI design of Bvckup is a great example of what that combo produces.

Great work on Hamachi too - I hope you were well compensated by LogMeIn ;)

Thanks justice and erikts, it's great to hear from people who enjoy using it.

I plan to add more features, but it was my second app using Free Pascal and Lazarus and there's not much documentation and it differs from standard Delphi enough to not be able to use examples I've found.  I end up using trial and error, which can be slow.  If there are any Lazarus experts on the forum, I'd love to talk with you :)

I love Linux.  I started using it 13 years ago, spent 5 years as a developer at a Linux clustering company creating management and provisioning software for Linux clusters and ran it as my primary desktop OS for 7 or 8 years.  I used to try to get everyone I knew to use it.

But even I wouldn't claim that Linux currently beats Windows or Mac OS X on ease of use.  Sure, it's getting better, but I've tried and failed too many times to count to get non-technical people to use it without assistance.  Invariably, they would run into a problem that would have been straightforward on Windows but required me to help them because it was too complex.

tomos, I replace the URL with the keyword, without quotes, but it sounds like the open a new tab option from Tab Mix Plus is interfering with that process in your case.

Readability is fantastic.  If you're using Firefox you can give the bookmarklet a keyword (I set mine to "read"), then type the keyword in the address bar when you're on the page you want to clean up.  I often combine forces with Zap Images for ultra-clean reading.

Summary: Ctrl-L, type keyword for bookmarklet and hit enter.

If you don't mind separating chat from file transfer, IRC and HFS would work.  There are plenty of free IRC servers to use or you could install a local one and HFS makes file sharing easy.  I use Pidgin at work for IRC and it can notify you in various ways when someone says your name in a room.

Aha.  I saw the Tools menu item and all the separate tools in the application directory and thought it was pulling the .exe files dynamically.

So I guess right now it's modular, but will be extensible in the next version :)

@app103 I used DClock and liked how extensible you'd made it, but it never occurred to me to have it use SnapTimer as another extension.  Great idea!

Before I knew about Donation Coder I posted a Windows Countdown Timer Showdown on my blog that was mentioned here (let me say one more time I had no intention of disparaging App's Instant Boss, it just didn't fit what I was looking for).  I thought I'd found what I wanted with Marxio Timer, but now that it's gone I decided to write a timer that would satisfy my requirements.

SnapTimer is the result.

Meanwhile with the focus on online web services, for a indie coders without the money to compete with a large corporation, the paths forward are daunting.  If you create something new and innovative, unlike the case with desktop software, you have to know that you won't be able to scale up the service to handle a large volume of users.

The indie developer can leverage those web services (Amazon Web Services, Google Code) to compete head to head with large companies.  I see the move to web services as leveling the playing field, allowing a single guy in a basement to compete directly with some of the largest companies in the world, and scale to meet the demand.

I've added a few features, including SHA-1, drag and drop support, a menu and a status bar to indicate what's going on.  It's extremely keyboard friendly so you don't have to touch the mouse.

One note on JungleDisk - you can opt for storing your files on Rackspace instead of Amazon S3 and get free transfers up and down and pay the same as Amazon S3 for storage.  I did it a while ago and save a little each month.
