If you want to look at the email client they'll include, it is available here: http://www.emclient.com/

It's the Pro version of eM Client that will be incorporated in the Softmaker Office (Pro-version). I don't know if it will be a specially designed version of eM Client or what changes there are from the standalone client, but the free version is very nice IMO.

There's a new public beta of Total Commander out these days: TC 8.00 beta 1!

The major change is that this is the "first version with both 32 bit and 64 bit versions."

A few other additions (from the list of changes):
- Added: Show number of bytes handled and total bytes when copying, packing, unpacking (also with plugins) (32/64)
- Added: Show number of files handled and total files when copying, packing, unpacking (also with plugins) (32/64)
- Added: Search function (Commands - Search): In field "Search in", a list file can be specified like this: @c:\path\searchfile.txt. The format can be ANSI, UTF-8 or UTF-16 (both with bom). The file must contain one file/dir name per line, absolute or relative (32/64)
- Added: Multi-rename tool: Use 'a' as number of digits for auto width depending on number of files, e.g. [C:a] or [C10+10:a] (32/64)

Of course this version still honours the life time license.

My favourite tool for this is USB Drive Letter Manager - http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbdlm_e.html
What it is
USBDLM is a Windows service that gives control over Window's drive letter assignment for USB drives. Running as service makes it independent of the logged on user's privileges, so there is no need to give the users the privilege to change drive letters.
It automatically solves conflicts between USB drives and network or subst drives of the currently logged on user.
Furthermore you can define new default letters for USB drives and much more.

USBDLM is Freeware for private and educational (schools, colleges, universities) use only.

The way I use the forums might be a bit odd. I pretty much only use the Unread Posts link (my bookmark is straight to that link!) so I can see what's changed since I last checked. I don't go looking into specific sections. In fact, I hardly pay attention to what section anything is in except for when I'm creating my own posts.

FWIW and related to the discussions/criticisms related to this year's fundraiser as well as this thread, I'd just like to say that one thing I do love about DonationCoder.com as it is today is that it's different from anything else on the net. The forum is friendly and the donation spirit is unique. I certainly wouldn't have donated as much to miscellaneous software authors (and other, non-software related people and organizations) if it weren't for DonationCoder.com. Maybe that makes me a so-called fanboy, but I take that as a compliment. I'm a DonationCoder.com fan, so please don't change too much :Thmbsup:

General Software Discussion / Programs close when switching to battery power (Win 7)?

Ever since using Win7 for the first time, I've had this issue where whenever I switch from AC to battery power, several programs will close. I've googled this, but couldn't find anything related to this, so I'm calling out to the DC community for some help  :-[

I've yet to see why some programs close while others don't. Examples of programs that will close when I "pull the plug": FARR, WordWeb Pro, Logitech SetPoint. At first I thought it was related to using a startup manager (Chameleon), but it doesn't seem like it, because some programs aren't controlled by Chameleon, while others are. I can't see any connection to where the programs are started (registry, startup folder, current/all users). Any idea what I need to do to stop this behaviour? My laptop is usually plugged in, but sometimes I need to rely on battery power and it's annoying to see several programs close whenever that happens...

It's probably some oversight on my part in power settings somewhere, but I'd love to get some help with this :) Thank you!

The final factor which stopped me doing a perma-move to linux was the lack of people willing to help.  Looking on forums to see thousands of "RTFM n00b" and "wtf...stupid question...gtfo my forum" kinda put me off.  Makes you wonder if theres a forum, like DC, but for Linux......

Obviously mostly concerned with all things CrunchBang Linux, but all kinds of general Linux stuff (and other things) are discussed as well, and in a nice, friendly tone. Can't say I'm "ready" to switch to Linux, but I find CrunchBang ideal for my netbook, and I'm considering installing Qimo ("a desktop operating system designed for kids") on my old laptop for my daughter to use.

Makes me remember the ruckus caused by the developer of an early version of the blackbox shell for windows. He was so tired of "noobs" asking the same questions over and over, that he changed the shell executable so that it needed the parameter "-rtfm" to run :D Obviously caused a bunch of complaints that the shell wouldn't start. To be fair to the developer, the information about the rtfm parameter was rather publicly available IIRC, and as such it proved his point that many people don't actually read the manual (or a simple README in this case).

Even though I agree that answers such as "Google it" or "RTFM" are useless and rude, sometimes I can see why people using these replies may be annoyed. I'm frequenting the XDA forums (phone OS/software development), more specifically this thread: http://forum.xda-dev...wthread.php?t=829734 and the same questions are asked over and over and over again. The forum has a rather simple, yet sufficient "Search this thread" function, which is apparently not used much.

Just as "RTFM-repliers" are rude, when people don't first search for answers to their questions, I think that may be considered rude as well, as these people obviously expect others to provide information that they themselves might have found with just a little effort. But when a search didn't help, obviously one wants a more helpful reply than "Google it" or "RTFM"...

Not much of a gamer, but these two got me hooked for a while! I think I prefer the original, although the melee weapons of L4D2 are pretty cool (chain saw, crow bar, etc.).

I've been a little conflicted about that.  I mean, I'm not trying to just get more money wherever I can.  But, some people paid $1 and others paid $25+ for it during the sale (though, I do have to say I thought, on average, people were very nice).  So, it doesn't seem right to just upgrade everyone automatically.    What I'm thinking is that since the Pay What You Want was a promotional thing, that if anyone who has that version just wants to pay the difference between the current price and their purchase price, then I would go ahead and upgrade it ito a lifetime license.   Does that seem fair?
