Interesting idea!

Here would be one way to solve this:

Write a utility that will scan your MS Word document and produce an output file that contains one line for each recipe.

You could EITHER make the tool output an alias file directly, or just output a simple text file that could be referenced using the "#filecontents" alias result.  The later might be easiest and each line of the file would be of the form LABEL | RESULT TO LAUNCH

The actual result that each line would launch would be your url that will open up the document to a particular bookmark.

With such a text file of results (one line for each recipe with the title being the words that would be searched for), you would then create a single alias called "recipes" and so typing "recipes chicken" would find all recipe results with the work chicken in them.

Here we go again.

This thread started out focused on an interesting new academic debate about whether there was scientific evidence of a mis-transcription and its ramifications.
And now has very predictably drifted into yet another discussion of politics.

Can we please try to keep the rants about government in the basement so they stop taking over threads?

And if you absolutely cannot stop yourself from posting about politics in a thread -- just make your point and move on -- it's not fair to the rest of us when these threads become just one or two people arguing (or more often agreeing) back and forth over and over about off-tangent political points that have nothing to do with original topic.

I'm not saying these political topics are not important things for citizens to discuss -- and i'm not saying you aren't providing useful information -- but I am saying that they should not make up such a high percentage of the posts on this forum.  And it's especially harmful when such posts drown out the conversations that otherwise could be taking place.

Please.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: DBISAM Engine Error # 9732
« Last post by mouser on July 09, 2014, 03:31 PM »
I suppose it's possible -- it's certainly possible that if another program locked or tried modifiying one of the CHS .dat files that could cause a problem.
But it is very unlikely that simply changing a file association of .dat files could have done this, so I wouldn't be too quick to blame yourself or another program.

I deleted two .dat files. Are these the database files?  DonationCoder_clipboardhelp....dat  and another>
Nope; you want to delete the entire contents of the Clipboard Help and Spell DATABASE subdirectory.
(WHEN I SAY DELETE I MEAN BACK IT UP FIRST JUST IN CASE AND THEN DELETE THE CONTENTS).

The "Database" subdirectory inside your ClipboardHelpAndSpell directory.
This will either be in the installation directory if you are running portably or on Windows XP.
On Windows 7/8 it will be under MyDocuments\DonationCoder\ClipboardHelpAndSpell.

Or, even before you try restoring from a backup, you might try exiting CHS, moving all files out of that Database directory, and then restarting CHS to give you a completely empty blank database.  Make sure that works without any errors, and then try restoring one of those backups.

It sounds like your clip database has gotten corrupted somehow.

Ok let's back up and do first things first:

Exit CHS
Then go to where your CHS database is stored (defaults to Documents\DonationCoder\ClipboardHelpAndSpell\Database).
Zip up that database directory, and copy it someplace safe.
And copy the BACKUPS directory someplace safe.

AFTER you have made copies of all those files, so that we can always go back to where you are now, you might try this:

Then look in your Backups\ directory and see if there is a recent backup file with a date that if you rolled back to you wouldn't lose any important clips.  If so, you can try to restore to that backup from that same Backup/Maintenance tab within CHS.

Close the error message(s) and then go to Options dialog and then to the Backup/Maintenance tab, and then click "Verify or Repair Database".
See if that helps.

Another party board game mini-review, this time for a game called "Telestrations".

telestrat.jpg telestrat2.jpg

Telestrations is a light-hearted drawing game that works similarly to the kids game of "Telephone".  Each player gets a secret word (or phrase), and tries to draw it.  They then pass along their pad clockwise to the next player who looks at the picture they drew, and tries to guess (in words) a description what it is a drawing of.  Then that player passes along the pad clockwise and the recipient draws a picture of the description that the previously player wrote.  So as each pad goes around the circle, it becomes a sequence of drawing, description, drawing, description, etc..

After each pad has gone around the circle, players take turns becoming the center of attention and showing off the sequence of drawings and descriptions in their pad while everyone else laughs at how wrong things went.

The best part of this game is that the worst artists create the most fun.  Children will especially enjoy being the center of attention as people enjoy the mayhem.

It's a pure fun game that should work well for any group, has tons of laughs, and is great for kids of all ages.  Highly recommended.

The normal edition supports up to 8 players; there is a "party pack" that goes up to 11 or 12.

Today's board game microreview is for "Wits and Wagers".
witswagerspic253183.jpg

Wits and Wagers is a very clever mixture of trivia, betting, and social interaction.  It's fast to play, super easy for anyone, and easily supports 7 players or more with teams.

Gameplay works essentially like this:  On each round a trivia question is read that has a numerical answer.  All players (teams) write down their answer on a dry erase card, and then all answers are laid out in numerical order.  At this point, everyone can bet on which answers are correct.  In this way, even if you have no idea what the answer is, you have a chance to bet on the answers from people who you think might know.

The social element of seeing what answers others gave, and how confident they are, and the range of answers -- is all quite fun.  And the strategy and risk taking of betting your accumulated chips is very fun.

I've played this twice now with large groups -- the first time was fun but not magical; the second time -- playing with people i didn't know well, was extremely fun.

Highly recommended if you have a large group of adults.  There are special editions for families and kids (though i think it works better with adults).

My program is probably the last one that should be recommended, as it is not "easy" (despite the name) and not very polished -- at least at this point.

There must be some other good free screencasting tools.
