N.A.N.Y. 2009 / Re: NANY 2009 Release: Notepad++ plugins
« Last post by Deozaan on January 14, 2009, 05:17 PM »
I use the Portable Apps build of Notepad++.

I'm guessing from this that it's the UNICODE version:
Unicode: Users wishing to use the Unicode version of Notepad++ can extract the files from the unicode directory in the zip version and place them in the Notepad++Portable\App\Notepad++ directory. Many plugins have not yet been updated for Unicode and will fail to load.

Tantrix looks cool.

GoldToken.com has a similar game called Trax. It uses square pieces instead of hexagonal pieces and only uses two colors. It was created by David Smith (also in New Zealand) 8 years before Tantrix. See the Trax Official Website.

Hey folks, just an FYI I found this informational web page that you can link people to that send you spam/junkmail:

http://www.thanksno.com/

oh here's another one:

http://bccplease.com/

I just got an e-mail from someone in my school's staff that was sent to about 250 people. Most of them were in the To: field, with less than 10 in the CC: field.

I replied with these two websites. Let's see what happens. :)

DcUpdater / Re: Option to install all checked items
« Last post by Deozaan on January 13, 2009, 11:01 AM »
Maybe a compromise: If someone has more than 2 or 3 options checked a popup box saying "You have X number of programs selected to install. Are you sure you want to do that?"

DcUpdater / Re: idea: Install program via downloading single .dcupdate
« Last post by Deozaan on January 13, 2009, 10:51 AM »
unless as justice said, its a zip type.

I'm fairly certain zip types would work too. Because when you open a .dcupdate file directly (instead of importing it from within DCU) then it will use the .dcupdate's directory as the "home" directory of DCU. That's why it won't show any of your other .dcupdate enabled programs.

General Software Discussion / Re: Microsoft Songsmith
« Last post by Deozaan on January 13, 2009, 10:48 AM »
I just went to download it and found this:

The free trial will work for six hours of actual application use. That’s not six hours from the instant you download it, it’s six hours of you really using Songsmith. If you close Songsmith, minimize Songsmith, or start working in another application, the clock stops. So this is plenty of time to make lots of songs (making songs is quick and easy, we promise!).

and this:

If you've had a great time making music for six hours and want to keep on rocking, you can purchase Songsmith for $29.95 (in the U.S.) or 29 euros (in the EU) at the online Microsoft store. Songsmith is currently only available for purchase in the U.S. and EU, but the free trial version can be downloaded anywhere.

Quick, somebody get me some crackers to go along with the cheese! :D

As for the product itself... well I'm a novice songwriter, and for me, I usually just suddenly get a tune in my head and if I can record it before I forget then maybe I'll expand it out into a song. But a number of my songs have been inspired by other tunes I've heard. I'll hear a couple of notes and the rest of the tune starts coming my way. So this application may be useful for someone like me. :)

It should work right now as DCUpdater is. Just put the .dcupdate file into the desired directory and run it. DCU should then launch and do its stuff.

It installed quite quickly. I assigned a gig of RAM to it and it's rather sluggish compared to Vista on 4 gig and XP on 2, but what does on expect?!
Is that using VirtualPC? It's quite snappy being assigned 1gig running under vmware...

It's very sluggish (to say the least) using VirtualPC on my 1GB RAM VM...

Living Room / Re: World's First Flying Car Prepares for Take-off
« Last post by Deozaan on January 11, 2009, 07:39 PM »
Pretty cool but i guess the market for such a car would be limited since you would need a driver's license AND a flight license in order to use such a thing.

Not to mention that it costs an expected retail price of $200,000.

Living Room / World's First Flying Car Prepares for Take-off
« Last post by Deozaan on January 11, 2009, 06:08 PM »
Contrary to reports by The Onion that no flying cars exist or are being built, the Times Online is reporting that flying cars could be available as soon as 18 months from now.

Is it a car? Is it a plane? Actually it’s both. The first flying automobile, equally at home in the sky or on the road, is scheduled to take to the air next month.

If it survives its first test flight, the Terrafugia Transition, which can transform itself from a two-seater road car to a plane in 15 seconds, is expected to land in showrooms in about 18 months’ time.

This is pretty fun, though I'm having some trouble figuring out whether it's better to build more turrets/floor traps or upgrade existing ones. The upgrades start out being cheaper than buying new defenses, but if an enemy makes it past then you're left chasing it down with your pistol (if you managed to buy one!)

So VirtualPC 2007 doesn't support 64-bit OSes at all? I thought it just wouldn't let me install a 64-bit VM on a 32-bit host OS.

Since their tech support is vastly superior to their product, shouldn't they turn things around and give the game away for free and then charge for the support?

They'd probably make more money that way.

Thanks nudone. I don't use Vista but I know a few people who do and this might come in handy when they inevitably come to me with questions. :)
