Crush: simplicity, I bet. And the fact that quality will be just fine, without the need for (relatively) heavy software like blender.

Darwin: which column # on your screenshot is the Private Bytes statistic? That's the most important one to monitor, then working set size.

Well, per-track gain destroys the dynamics if the album was actually mastered, but album gain can be justifiable with albums that were masted way too low (a couple of metallica albums for example, iirc). Per-track gain can be justifiable, though, if the mastering people really screwed up...

I'm going to do the gain-scanning either before or while I convert my wavs to FLAC, so I won't have to decompress-and-scan later on. But I'll still have to do a bit of research on how it all works, especially since I use the somewhat untradtional one wave/flac + cuesheet per album, instead of one file per track.

Heh, now that Tower Defense games have been all the rage, yesteryears all the rage, namely "escape the room" games, are coming back? Cool :)

Gothic and i chatted in irc channel as normal even though we were in same room :)
Hehe :)

I sometimes chat with my girlfriend on msn even though we live together... but that's mostly if she's in the living-room and there's loud music playing, easier than yelling ;)

such a simple solution should have been discovered before and mainstream by now.

1) real-time analysis probably isn't all that simple :)
2) it destroys the intended (or very-bad-mastered, in some cases) dynamics of the track.

I'm personally not that big a fan of the various "audio enhancers", since it makes the music not sound like it intended when it was made.

Do you use replaygain tags?
Nope, not yet - haven't looked into how it works (the technical aspect is easy enough, but I mean how it works with different apps, players, where the gain is stored, etc). I certainly want to use "album gain" rather than "track gain", to preserve the dynamic of an album, instead of just getting tracks maximized... and I want the gain value to be stored in meta info, not to be applied to the wave data.

I rip my stuff myself, grab the cd info from freedb but look through and correct it in case of errors. I rip to one big wav + a cuesheet (with FLAC compression later on), and when I have a batch of CDs ripped, I use Album Cover Art Downloader to find album covers... going to have to scan a few myself, though, since not everything can be found in a decent quality (512x512 JPEG).

I'm using a naming scheme like Dimmu Borgir [1997] - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant for the folders, so I don't really have to do any special indexing of the folders. Other indexing is done better by the meta-info in the cue-sheets anyway.

>_<

I think we can all agree on "christian values", and teaching religion on a more broad scale to help people understand the world we live in is a good idea too, imho. But preaching christinanity, or any other religion? Ick.

For the raw ripping, I would recommend the free version of DVDFab Decrypter... fast, handles ARccOS, etc.

Hope it's solid enough to carry the weight of all them books :)

ToDoList has at least limited support for this...

I use Album Cover Art Downloader for album art downloading, it's the one that has worked best for me yet.

EDIT: fixed URL, doesn't want quotes :)

You can use 'edit post' instead of posting another one :)

Just to be pesky, perhaps you can outline which header entries you needed to fix? Sorry for bugging, but this could end up being a good little cookbook recipe, perhaps something to add as a MINI-HOWTO.

It did cause a bit of a slowdown on my computer, but that was not really the software as much as the graphical transparency effects which seem to totally baffle my poor radeon 9800 (the same as the floating windows of bitdefender or taskbar bubbles. All slow my machine and make any game pretty much unplayable while they appear)
-iphigenie
A R9800 is a pretty darn capable card, and something like simple transparency shouldn't trouble it at all

Hm, it might have something to do with graphics driver capabilities. It does work fine here even in vmware though, so it would take some very minimal caps in order not to work, if it was about caps :-s

Yeah, I'm also not a fan of skinning. I can't think of a single application where I've liked it (well,  I did have a sevaral-year period where I liked winamp skins, but then I moved to foobar...).

No, it doesn't use a temp file - it might do the interpolation to a temporary in-memory bitmap, but I don't think it does this either.

Although its a shame that something like this didn't simply get added into XP, what sort of operating system requires applications to maintain a pointer chain... sheesh

An operating system that, unfortunately, carried some design (though not much code) from the 16bit days.
