Don't you know how these two handle conflicting changes?

DropBox renames conflicting files.

I've had the experience that dropbox was confused when I replaced a file with an older local backup - it renamed the version it had already (I think it added a date suffix), and copied the newly restored one - I was satisfied with how it handled the situation

Hi!

First i will introduce myself, my name is Mike. I´m 30 years old and i´m from Hannover Germany. I´m working as consulter and my hobbys are oldtimer. Here you can visited my site BMO and my hobby site Oldtimer Versicherung. If you need some information about oldtimers, let me know.

so long

Hey, welcome to DonationCoder, nice to have you here!

Your websites look nice, cant read German so the first one didnt make sence to me, but I figure the 2nd link (http://oldtimer-versicherung.biz/) is about old cars? lol

Hi Mike, welcome to dc.
If you want to, you can promote your site(s) in the Announce Your Software/Service/Product section. Of course you can add a commercial site to your web link in your profile too (it will show under your avatar)

What oldtimer car do you have? - my car is working it's way towards being an oldtimer but isn't quite there yet ;-)
I saw an oldtimer show lately and I find I especially enjoy the cars from the seventies, probably because I can actually remember them...

fact is that I'm the result of the union of two lineages: one Yorkshire/Darbyshire and the other Scottish/Northumberland and I keep thinking about the 15 months left on my household license for VIPRE  :o

Sure you're not Canadian at all then Mike :p ;-)

I actually bought a years 'supply' of Vipre in the sales ages ago & never used it (it's supposed to start only when registered but at this stage I'll probably just use MSE when the occasion arises...)

Don't forget, blue jeans were work pants ,,,
Under where?
hmmm, trying to figure out cranioscopical's last comment...
-cranioscopical (November 26, 2010, 09:01 AM)
"pants", trousers, ambiguous, also underwear, but if so, under where?

thanks Curt :)
when I think of it, I havent heard the word 'pants' since I was a kid (in Ireland - "that's a nice pair of pants you have on you"- I don't know if it's used much in Britain either any more) so dont know how I managed to miss that :-\

Mark's Work Wearhouse jeans give a very generous sized watch pocket, so there is no leap to imagine a pocket watch going in there.  Keep in mind too that this wouldn't be yer fancy pocket watch for a fancy man.  *Real* men had their watch on a chain, and it was always tucked into their *vest* pocket.  Vests being for a gentleman, and jeans with a watch pocket being for the blue collar scum like me. And possibly you ;)

wondering where the chain went... possibly simply into the larger pocket?
I did read in wikipedia that wrist watches were introduced for women, and were considered poncy for men till after the first world war, at which time they started to realise the convenience.

good question,
wikipedia doesnt have the answer *
I had an idea it was originally for pocket watches - but I think it too small for that

* look here http://en.wikipedia....Jeans#smaller_pocket
might have been originally for watches. Quote from a levis add:
Levi's ran an ad where a man uses the pocket to keep condoms ending with. "The watch pocket, invented in 1873, misused ever since."
not the best way to care for a condom :)

I tend to be skeptical until I see a trustworthy scientific source that tells me that things are actually okay - which [trustworthy] sources, as Renegade says, are difficult to come by (these days of caring corporation love)

[not that I've really conscientiously avoided any of this stuff either]

edit/ didn't mean to misquote Renegade there who simply points out that a lot of research is 'sponsered'

Living Room / Re: My Canon IP5000 inkjet is dead :( What now?
« Last post by tomos on November 23, 2010, 09:10 AM »
I use replacement inks for my canon printer - but I only use good quality ones (that have been tested/reviewed) - not the really cheap ones (the really cheap ones have no chip - and trying to add the chip from the old cartridge to a new chipless one is a royal PIA plus that you dont get notification of ink running low).

I dont believe that using replacement ink is why I've had some problems but I cant prove it either way at this stage.

I wonder are there any inkjets these days that dont use "chipped" cartridges?
I know kodak introduced a printer within the last year or two where the idea was to keep the manufacturer-ink costs low. I believe HP also have inkjet printers now that have much cheaper ink costs (I think they had a bad rep before).

It would be good to try find a comparative review that includes ink/printing costs if running costs are to be considered as well...

I probably cant help much but FWIW I'll tell my experience with Canon.
I've had canon printers a good few years  now, and loved the prints, but I but havent had as much luck as you have in term of lifespan.
Things go wrong and I hear that *possibly* a new printhead, which costs half the printer price, *might* fix the problem. At that stage I've usually bought a new printer.
I've decided to get an Epson next, from what I have heard, they keep going for years - the older ones tended to get clogged but they actually work again if you clean out the printhead. You see some fairly old Epson printers on sale on Ebay. Obviously I'd need to research a bit more to decide what exactly.

I've found this forum to be very helpful re inkjet printers

Find And Run Robot / Re: Hotkeys to control windows?
« Last post by tomos on November 19, 2010, 04:05 AM »

There must be a AutoHotkey script out there for minimising/'normalising'/maximising current window - anyone know of one?
I actually use PowerPro for this but it's really complete overkill as I use hardly any of it's other features...

Like, I don't get what's so great about using Ctrl-<letter> instead of the arrow keys to navigate through a document
The idea is that you don't have to move a hand away from the main keyboard to navigate (similar to the argument vi users make).
And on some laptop keyboards, this becomes extremely important - perhaps not so much for arrow keys, but often pgup/pgdown and home/end are located at fscked up places, or require pressing a function-modifier key. I can definitely see why WordStar keybindings has appeal - and they're logically placed.

Add to that, (according to the article linked to by rjbull above), the Control key used to be where the CapsLock key now is - this would probably have made it even quicker if you were fluent with the shortcuts.
Because of this, WordStar comes with a utility called SWITCH.COM to optionally swap the functions of the CapsLock and Control keys.

How about the same word defined from the different sources appearing in one interface instead?

would that be possible wraith, were you thinking of have a go? or making a suggestion
or is there software out there that already does this well?

The thermometer banner was a great idea, it worked really well

This wikipedia banner got the most click-through rates (2.85%). I can see why - it's very strong, and the body page is usually graphically very 'weak'

wikipedia001.png

the last fundraiser was fun, exciting even :)
I think once every two years would be a good average - or more importantly whenever needed.

edit/ I got that wikipedia page by clicking on random on the left there...
