Best wishes with your endeavor, Stephen!  You might look at this blog post on creating a Kickstarter campaign- it has a lot of information that you might find useful.  As it is, your offering is a bit spartan, and I'm not sure if it will draw the attention you might want/it might deserve.  Another thing that I see is that IndieGoGo seems to have changes so that the offering doesn't fail- you get all of the funds at the end of the drive.  This does have less obvious downsides - if there's no goal, people aren't really pressed to give.  The risk does give a reward.  Just a few insights I thought I'd offer- hope it helps!

It isn't bids... it's people buying the individual items.  If you look at it as this idea collectively is worth 20k or however much, most won't pass the test.  But that's the whole thing about it- it's people contributing to get goods that they can use.  And considering how much I've spent on glass beads for different games and how unsatisfying using them is with no markings, etc., it was worth it to me.

/shrugs

I found a use for it, and I find it interesting to replace stones and cardboard as currency.  And knowing that there are a lot of people here that play boardgames, I thought it would be of interest.

Hmmm... 10 kickstarter project posts, and the only one that received any comments was negative.  Maybe I should discontinue, as there doesn't seem to be much interest...?

I know a lot of people on here play boardgames, so I figured I'd post this Kickstarter...

PennyGems
pennygems.jpg
Goal$3,500 ($20,161 as of this posting)
End Date2012-04-30
Project Creator(s)Dave Howell
ExcerptUpgrade almost any board game by replacing the player markers or tokens that came in the box with PennyGems. They're dazzlingly shiny, feel solid yet sensual to the touch, are very easy to pick up off a table (because of their raised edges), are non-skid, stack surprisingly well, have a nice weight to them, and are incredibly durable. Each one has an icon on one side which ensures that people who are color-blind or visually impaired can still easily identify different kinds, and the symbols also establish a rank or order for the colors, should a game need that.

PennyGems are made by printing UV-resistant ink onto chrome mirror-like self-adhesive vinyl labels, then covering the label with a dome of space-age polyurethane. The polyurethane is non-yellowing, self-healing, extremely resistant to a wide range of chemicals, and very durable, while also being slightly flexible and very pleasing to the touch. Two of these labels are placed on a penny. The penny gives the PennyGem token a satisfying weight in the hand.

Though highly unlikely, anyone ever found google customer service? I mean support via email or ticket? I have seen all their paid and free services are usually supported under one of their crappy interface forums.

Just like Microsoft then ;)

I've actually talked directly with MS reps over the phone for support, not to mention email, ticket, and other means.  So, no, not really.

Anyone up for a valley without wind 4-pack?

http://store.steampo...ered.com/app/209330/

Good until May 1st.

Looks really cool, and see this thread for more info on gameplay and new player advice.

PM if interested- I'll pull the trigger if I get at least two more people willing to spend $11 (paypal is best, but donationcredits work too)... I'll foot the rest.

I think I've seen that image now in three separate threads on this site alone.

Sort of like the taped together iPhones when the iPad came out.

With manuals and references and other things that have other than words in them, the gestures can let you easily zoom in on what you want to see.  And my screen never suffers from the touch of my fingers- I don't see fingerprints on them other than if I intentionally try.  And the ability to have the controls fade away, but there at a touch is very cool.

They've added HTML/CSS, and have plans for adding Ruby and Python, and actually have http://labs.codecademy.com/ where you can already use Ruby and Python.

The $50 for 1 TB at google is per month.

The best value seems to be 100 GB, since for the rest of them, doubling the space costs 1 cent more than the previous step (how odd).

Thank you.  That bit of the maths that Josh through up was boggling my mind.

Living Room / Kickstarter Highlight: Shadowrun Returns
« Last post by wraith808 on April 27, 2012, 10:31 AM »
Many moons ago, there was Shadowrun on the SNES and Genesis.  And it was good.  Now they're bringing good back... and it's better.  They are in the final stretch for this Kickstarter, and it's going to be great!  (Though I have an ulterior motive... I want physical adepts!)

Shadowrun Returns

Goal$400,000 ($1,628,975 as of this posting)
End Date2012-04-29
Project Creator(s)Harebrained Schemes
ExcerptShoot Straight. Conserve Ammo. And Never Cut a Deal With A Dragon.

Jordan Weisman, the creator of Shadowrun, is back and Shadowrun Returns (for Apple & Android tablets and PCs) is the game that Shadowrun fans have been waiting for a long time. A graphically rich 2D turn-based single player game with deep story interaction, meaningful character development, and highly-contextual tactical combat, Shadowrun Returns is not only going to make some old geeks (like us) very happy but it will introduce new players to a dynamic gaming universe that is beloved around the world.

Created almost 25 years ago, Shadowrun remains one of the most original and cherished role-playing settings. The game world’s origin story mashes-up the dystopian Cyberpunk future of a Blade Runner with the high fantasy creatures and races of a Lords of the Rings in an organic way that produces iconic characters, environments, and situations.

Note that stretch goals have added MacOS and Linux support!

Compared to the competition, it's a good deal.

Actually, it's not.  I have about 5TB stored on S3 and I pay about $25/mo...

Well, painful might be all you have right now.  I don't think any other service like this has even that much.
7343
^ That's what I got on each eligible id.  My other id's didn't show that at all.

Living Room / FBI: Hundreds Of Thousands May Lose Internet In July
« Last post by wraith808 on April 23, 2012, 10:13 PM »
For computer users, a few mouse clicks could mean the difference between staying online and losing Internet connections this summer.

Unknown to most of them, their problem began when international hackers ran an online advertising scam to take control of infected computers around the world. In a highly unusual response, the FBI set up a safety net months ago using government computers to prevent Internet disruptions for those infected users. But that system is to be shut down.

The FBI is encouraging users to visit a website run by its security partner, http://www.dcwg.org , that will inform them whether they're infected and explain how to fix the problem. After July 9, infected users won't be able to connect to the Internet.

continued at http://www.huffingto...-july_n_1441260.html

more info at http://www.fbi.gov/n...ember/malware_110911

I'd not heard of this... anyone else hear anything about it?  I did have the (admittedly) paranoid thought that this might be something else totally, especially in light of the recent activities by the FBI, i.e. MegaUpload...
7348
^ Ah.  I don't use that functionality, so I didn't even think of that use.  I don't believe it does that, though I'm not sure.
7349
I believe you can do that with xmarks and profiles for sync with certain machines.  I'm not sure though, as I've never explored it.
