Holcombe Old Church in hoar frost.  There will be details of the church here, but the Coleford and Holcombe churches have only just got their Web site and it's only a holding page as yet.

another beautiful image - very classically 'English' looking :)

it's great to see a really informative thread about apple and how-it-works (OS)

I dont really think it's really important why people defend/ignore problems with a product. I mean it's interesting from a psychological & cultural point of view, also how both 'sides' act and react - but it's veering fairly off-topic too :-)

In every case, the cashiers took what was offered and handed these people their meal, without comment - and with the manager looking on. Obviously this was some sort of a policy they were following.

After my partner ordered, I remarked to the manager that I thought it was a nice thing they were doing for these people. He only shrugged and said: "People gotta eat."

I doubt very much that's company policy (in fact I'd bet money on it not being) -
MacDonalds is a franchise so I would presume there just happens to be an unusual (and very nice) person running that one!

at first I thought 199 was the full price and we were going to get 90% off of that, but no...

I came across them before - they make an expensive programme out of what other programmes would have as an option -
Tiff merge and split for $27
Scan and Split for $49 :o sorry, that's ridiculous

I dont mess around with PDF's usually so maybe some of the 'options' are worthwhile?

I'd say keep your money though, check out dc for alternative methods

I have been using "Synchromagic" for years, it works wonders.
About the same features as Super Flexible File Synchronizer.
There is no "best"software" but one has to check the little functionality they are really keen on is available.

mixed messages about it out there:
the homepage says it's discontinued - http://www.rosecitys...re.com/synchromagic/ - are you using the last known version (now free)?
Synchromagic which was sold by Rose City Software since 1999, has been discontinued. Unfortunately in 2006 development more or less ceased after v4.3.2.2 - and attempts to work with Gelosoft to develop further upgrades and bugfixes failed. Recent attempts in late 2007 by Gelosoft to finally release new builds for a new version 5.0 were so drastically flawed that Rose City Software was forced to abandon our relationship with Gelosoft as the software was no longer reliable and would result in lost data.
[my emphasis]
Softpedia are offering the more recent version as a trial

[edit] rosecitysoftware have replaced it with http://www.rosecitys...e.com/SynchroMaster/ [/edit]

and so i might cut back on what i put in the international versions.

I got a kit a few years ago - I was considering re-requesting another one as I see lots of nice new goodies in the pack since then :D
Would that be okay?
I would make a donation (specifically for it - seeing as it's a second request).

Very funny that the advertised McDonald burgers wouldn't actually fit in the box that the burger is served in :D

down at the bottom (in case anyone is feeling generous) I noticed:
Note: due to this article spreading all over the net, I can’t pay my bandwidth bills. If you have a PayPal account, please channel a couple bucks this way.
then again,
maybe he could get some of the big fast food chains to advertise on the page . . .

Thanks Mike,
I might chance it seeing as I paid a bit for the Gizmo one and only have to pay the balance

He doesn't go in for soggy mysticism of the "earth energies" variety either.  He comes over to me, lacking qualifications for sensible criticism myself, as having been carried away by his idea.

I know nothing about them myself. There could well be a scientific/archaeological basis for it, but once, eh, enthusuaists start talking about 'spiritual' powers related to some site or concept, the archaeologists/scientists tend to avoid the whole thing like the plague. Which means it's nearly impossible to find out what's really the case. Wikipedia is disputed and doesnt really have very much info, although it is interesting to read what the dowsers have to say about it [In the 1930s, two British dowsers...]- I grew up in a town in the west of Ireland, but in the surrounding countryside dowsers were used to find a location for a well. From what I heard they would even be able to tell how deep you'd have to go. So I have great respect for dowsers...

Other than that it is difficult for me to see if Sagelight 4 is going to become a reality any time soon, or never. Should I take the lifetime offer?

but was there a concrete (pre-release) lifetime offer ?

... I'll struggle on in blissful ignorance. I don't know if this argument "scales" up through 7" and 10" devices, so I may be speaking out of my...

not to make an extra big deal out of the screen quality or anything:
I got a 22" IPS screen (matte) at the beginning of this year - once you've gotten one, you get a lot more critical of 'regular' TFT screens.
while I can understand your slating the importance in a 4" display, I think in a 10" screen it would be a factor. Especially if you're looking at videos/films or even just for photographs. I really think they got that right, cause once you get used to it you just think everything else is crap :)

From one of the comments in johnk's link:
I'm a bit curious what the specs will be on Asus's new 12.1 inch pad.. they've been putting IPS LED Backlit displays in sub $300 netbooks..

  • Five Books -- Five Books interviews a leading expert each day, and asks them to recommend -- you guessed it -- five books on their area of expertise. Another simple idea, well executed.

I'm not a great surfer/reader-online so I'm not coming up with my own five sites (not yet anyways) :-\

From the five books site, I really enjoyed:
P J O’Rourke on Political Satire
Dr Patrick Porter on the Rise and Fall of America
(I read this one last week but dont remember anything about a 'fall' so not sure why the title)
Barry Eichengreen on the Euro

the interviews are very good - especially the P.J. O'Rourke one.
Interesting to see the US from different perspectives, and the euro one is very informative

Just finished:  The Old Straight Track by Alfred Watkins.
The original ley-line book, that was later to inspire a multitude of nutters.  The ley-line fuss seems to have died down at present.

true havent heard anything about leylines in a while -
so what was your opinion of that one ?
just had a quick look in Amazon, I see it's from the 1920's

Some people prefer the traditional NANY mug design.. that will be available as an alternative:

I love that one as well :-*

So, after watching that video on sugar/fructose for 1.5 hours saying calories don't matter, sugar matters, how do you explain this?

For 10 weeks, Mark Haub, a professor of human nutrition at Kansas State University, ate one of these sugary cakelets every three hours, instead of meals. To add variety in his steady stream of Hostess and Little Debbie snacks, Haub munched on Doritos chips, sugary cereals and Oreos, too.

His premise: That in weight loss, pure calorie counting is what matters most -- not the nutritional value of the food.

The premise held up: On his "convenience store diet," he shed 27 pounds in two months.

This is directly contradictory to what Dr. Lustig said in his sugar videos.

Here's a very interesting article about this experiment (I reread Deo's link there as well - it is actually honest & open - he says they dont know what it proves)
The Twinkie Diet for Fat Loss

I think I'll have to reread it to understand it fully...

enjoyed especially the Five Books site from Zaine's list

A blog with rational and scientific literature based healthy lifestyle recommendations, which is also a fascinating read:

seems to be totally objective and scientific; a great find

While wandering around DX looking for more pointless stuff to buy, (actually I've been slowly replacing the MR16 halogens with LED versions), I stumbled upon this if you're still in the market for a PMP.

Zune 3" LCD 30GB Wifi Portable Digital Media Player with FM Tuner (Black) - US$58.01
 (see attachment in previous post)
Cheap enough if you want to try something a little more than a MP3 playing memory stick.

anyone know is Zune no longer available in Europe ?
I can only find accessories

This is the most ass-kickingest blues saxophone I've ever heard.  The wonderful Jimmy Forrest with the legendary Count Basie orchestra.  Oh my.
