I have to say that it wasn't until a minute or so in until my brain started decoding the words they were speaking.. before that i couldn't understand a thing.  thankfully the decoding kicked in before the chorus.

I went to college in the town they're from (Limerick city). A very distinctive accent ;)

All the download links on their website were returning a 'server error' message yesterday whenever I tried them.

same here (yesterday) but it's working for me now

Well here's a more up-to-date one 30th Nov. 2010
Senator Sanders: This Economy's Winners and Losers

in 2007
  • 1% of US population earn 23% of all income
  • 50% of US population earn 15% of all income (see link below)

with some backup checking of sources here:
Bernie Sanders, in viral speech, says top 1 percent earn more than 23 percent of U.S. income (politifact.com)

is no-one worried about this :tellme:

I cant login to Lifehacker in spite of being able to request (& having gotten) a new password.
Also I foolishly used the same/similar password & username in multiple accounts so I'm working my way through them

I have an idea that I have sent adi -
I need to send some more info but hopefully it can work out :)

Can give some more info here at a later stage...

from email

Lifehacker, Gizmodo, Gawker, Jezebel,
io9, Jalopnik, Kotaku, Deadspin, and Fleshbot
. As a result, the user name
and password associated with your comment account were released on the
internet. If you're a commenter on any of our sites, you probably have
several questions.

We understand how important trust is on the internet, and we're deeply
sorry for and embarrassed about this breach of security. Right now we
are working around the clock to improve security moving forward. We're
also committed to communicating openly and frequently with you to make
sure you understand what has happened, how it may or may not affect you,
and what we're doing to fix things.

This is what you should do immediately: Try to change your password in
the Gawker Media Commenting System. If you used your Gawker Media
password on any other web site, you should change the password on those
sites as well, particularly if you used the same username or email with
that site. To be safe, however, you should change the password on those
accounts whether or not you were using the same username.

they then give a lifehac.kr address (which made me dubious of it's authenticity - maybe this is the start of the dodgy emails??)

Light Alloy is making big progress!  A new beta for v4.5 has been released.  The new features are:
Portable version!  Yes!
Also, it is now being packaged with internal codecs, which a lot of people prefer.  He is also offering the lighter, no-codec version also.  So he has covered all bases.  Great developer.  Fantastic video player.  My favorite general purpose player.

Woohoo!

That's pretty good, cant handle MS's most recent formats but still a very good app

The upgrade to 2010 version costs around $50 at the moment ($80 full price)

You probably meant that Softmaker Office 2010 does handle recent M$ files, as it claims to?

yes, thanks rj, my post was unclear - I edited it (hopefully) for clarity

The pre'installed' usbstick wouldnt work on windows 7 or XP (complained about being read only but is write-protected so cannot change... I can always format it and it's a 4gig kingston drive)

My dream is to be a novelist.  Sit at home in my underwear (well, okay, add a bathrobe when family members are home with me) and write books for a living.  Trouble is, to make enough as an author to live comfortably, you've got to be quite popular which, in turn, probably requires skills above the level of those I possess.

How about calling them all to task (oh sh!t, I forgot - that's what the government is supposed to do...)

Some of the most soul crushing experiences you can imagine come from owning a business and being "your own" boss. (Whatever that means.)

I speak from direct personal experience on that score.

what you and me need (and many others) is the article called
The Minimalist Guide to Leaving My Soul-Crushing Business/Self-Employed work

General Software Discussion / Re: pdf fonts

I presume you didnt get the error message before editing?
When you resaved the PDF were you given options? in particular to embed fonts?  (or see if you can change the default save settings somewhere in options or wherever)

You could use one of the (almost) universal fonts - they dont need to be embedded - the PDF will take them by defaultfrom the PC where the file is opened.
I dont know will this work with mac, and I'm not sure what the font list is (there's 13 of them I think. The usual suspects: Arial, Times, etc.)

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA - new option for DragLock?
« Last post by tomos on December 12, 2010, 11:14 AM »
Hi mastersesci
I requested the idea and I still use it regularly :)

Your idea would certainly resolve any initial confusion of direction -I find it's unsure initially of where you want to go. Once it has locked on the direction you're heading I find it rock solid. The mouse arrow(or whatever) will flicker - but the line of movement doesnt in my experience. (I can test it by drawing a freehand line while using it - I dont fully understand your image btw - was the down [y] line drawn while also using draglock?)

and this is the opposite of what (I assume) the Anonymous folks want.
My impression of anon is that it's (mostly) a drooling mob that likes to feel self-important - kiddos in their mum & dad's basement, using dumb brute-force pre-made click-one-button DDoSing tools while touching themselves and muttering "zomgImSoLeetHaxx0r!11!1!".

;D Laugh of the week (at least )

I could have done without the wires

I think they're fine - they even look green which gives them a nice oxidised copper look.
They can disrupt an image, but there's a bit of an obsession with getting rid of them when it's often not necessary imo - I like reality :)
Here's a view from my window, with loads of wires... :)

Oh, I just noticed, he is having a 50% off sale currently.  Great deal.  If you plan to write ever in the future I would take advantage of this just in case.  It's only $20 and he seems to be a good dude.

Sounds tempting
for NaMoWriMo month, which was november - so dont know how long it will last..

Do you know is it more aimed at writing novels?
