After being caught by that download for free message a few times, ive come to realize that it is only referring to the download itself, meaning the site you download from wont charge you to download it but the software may cost, so i spose its not really the authors fault that it has that message on it, somewhat misleading though, especially if you are new to those sites

It works perfectly as soon as i disable it.  :), So thats good to know, i'll just make sure i disable it b4 running your handy little app when i need it , (I do run XP with SP2 and all the patches microsoft have sent out)

Cheers

yeah, i agree , if the program does what they want then buy it, its not an outrageous price or anything, or go hunting on the free sites, seems you can get something for free to do almost anything these days, maybe not as well but sometimes better than the commercial software, so worth a look

something odd happened to my computer and i was unable to use the inbuilt defrag utility, which id always used before, simply due to its price and availability, but after a few weeks of no defragging, i got perfect disk amd after running it, everything seemed so much quicker, whether this is the 'placebo' effect or not i dont know, but it made me happy so i bought it.  now i dont look for defraggers anymore, they arent fun, useful but not fun.  :-[ :)

i dont know if its still true but gizmos list says that the yahoo desktop search uses the same X1 engine so you can probably get it for free that way if you want it, you get the rest of the stuff yahoo put in to but, well beggars cant be choosers

ive not tried them, as i say, my needs in that area are fairly basic, so i find that locate can index all quite quickly when i need it to and i understand it, always important, so unless / until my needs change im going to stick with it, i dont think i can cope with trying to find another utility, been going thru file managers, media players note pad replacements, clipboards and so on and so forth which is all good fun but, and now im pretty close to having what works for me so i can concentrate on using all this stuff instead of forever changing things, actually do something with it lol
733
and locate works great on my little celeron 1.5 laptop  :)
734
lol well i got rid of it when it was free, it slowed me down too much, and that was on a amd x2 3800 with 1 gb of ram, so go figure, it was obviously very good at what it did but it was overkill for my needs, i dont have a lot of files and i know where most of em are, but i do lose them sometime :-[  ive been trying that locate32 for a little now, its much more my style

dont wear yourself out, in my experience any computer program on time, on budget that actually works is so rare as to be virtually non-existant, i'm sure the crazed mazers can wait a day or 2

Is IE7 faster for surfing for you or just to load, as FF is notorious for being a slow loader, but is noted to be quicker once its going, horses for courses of course, and whichever browser suits is the one you should use.  (IE7 gets the advantage with start up speed and smaller memory as its so integrated into windows itself)

i dont know the figures but i think you'll find a dual core processor would work on the games, after all you get the best part of 2 processors both running at that clock speed, and ht was an intermediate step on the way to dual core so you dhould be fine, if i were you i'd go to the library and check some of the reviews of core 2 duos and their performance in games.  that would probably give you a good idea of what you need

I s'pose someday i'll be forced to upgrade, but at $500 or $600 to get the basics or around $1000 for the lot, i'm going to put it off for as long as possible, Office 2003 does all i require and a load more besides, most of which i probably dont even know about  :-[

Hi there ganrad, i'm no coder either, i tinker and break things as a user tho lol, i dont know about the other people here who are users only, but it seems to me a users perspective on a program is really important.  A program may have the most elegant code and use no resources, and have a 1001 uses and all that, but whats the point if people like you and i dont like it and cant use it?

Congratulations on your win too

we have open university here in Australia to, i tried it but lacked the motivation, i need to see people and talk to other students and the lecturers and tutors, seems to make it much more fun and motivation is a little easier, for me anyway.

the idea of embedding ie into ff does not appeal to me, i use ie view lite for when i really have to go to ie but you dont have to contaminate ff tooo much

Auto update can do both firefox and your extensions/themes.  Its under tools, options, advanced, update.

Not being a programmer i dont know what these sort of changes would mean to the footprint of process tamer itself, a lean mean taming machine is one i want, i dont want it taming itself lol, i watched it for a little while with the being tamed messages but now ive turned them all off and hidden the icon, and it goes about its task silently, out of sight but whenever i have a situation that used to stop all, i think fondly of the little program with the whip and chair bringing the offenders to heel  :)
