I understand his "state of the pate" had something to do with his days as a college freshman when he kept hoping he'd get bald real soon...
Fringe benefits?

2. FARR.
3. Everything.

Heartily agree
Win-X can sometimes help.

My wife finds Start8 quite useful — Stardock practically gives it away.
FWIW, the way my wife's machine is set up, she can't tell that it's not W7.

728
Could those here who have used Win 8 for some time and who don't use the new Start Screen stuff say what you wish for in 8.1
I don't want to spoil your sense of optimism but I'm told that the presenter's wish had been for a full head of hair.

YMMV.

(I never see the 'tablet side' of W8 and have been quite happy with 8.0.)

Yeah... You ain't never had a friend like ME!
When IE updates come around I think you'll find that there's a redundant 'r' in there somewhere…

Chris on form (as ever )
It's not the volume that's noteworthy, it's the sustained absence of meaningful content!  :o

Welcome to the site clemo1

Thanks to all for the varied and helpful input.

If nothing else it's a wonderful aid to procrastination — a characteristic of mine of which I am particularly fond.

It was through Shell Extension City that I came to DonationCoder. Daily Rotation's also rather good — a sister site.
734
You are still going to be maintaining the site for her! Mark my words...
Déjà vu all over again  :(
      ;D  ;D  ;D

One last note...
Thanks for all of the information, much appreciated.

Try weebly or wix or any one of the alternatives.
I appreciate the help, thanks!

736
I can direct you to the ones that I used.

I'd appreciate the links, thanks very much!

Apologies in advance as  I know there are numerous topics that contain pieces of information about this subject. My problem is too much information, not too little. I wonder if some of you can help me to cut through the clutter.

My wife is an artist who needs a web site on which to display her work.

She is wilfully computer illiterate.

She has a web site that I put together. It's (I'm) just not good enough.

I need to set up (or have set up for me) something that allows the very easiest point and drag method for her to:
  • Add pages, and add images to those pages
  • Replace existing items on pages
  • Label items with appropriate titles and descriptions (probably multi-line text)
  • Possibly re-arrange items on any given page.
  • Have visitors move easily between pages.
  • Have some method whereby thumbnails will enlarge for greater detail.

I can do this with the site that I created but my wife can't, so we're going to start again.

This has to be easy enough for a five-year-old to manage as I might be required to use it myself.

The task should be as easy as falling off a log but, no matter how hard I throw myself at the ground, I haven't reached it yet.

So, please, what's my best option?

Maybe they figure the change of location will provide a lift for the conference participants.

They're pretty wired up already.

But it's only for those business "insiders".  Will they rename it to Mt. Insider?

...and moguls. Mount' in cider comes later, after the run.

Maybe pissing off all those PITA "amateurs" is considered an unanticipated benefit?
Good to know I'll still be of some benefit to somebody  ;D  ;D  ;D

I've heard of sloping off from the office but that's taking it too far!

If I have it right (of which there is always considerable doubt) there are to be numerous updates to the cloud version and none to the boxed version. Quite a slap in the face for those of us who paid already to license some of the more-expensive consumer software on the market.

I'm with Carol, one of the things that has kept me close to Windows has been Adobe graphics software.

742

I was looking aghast at the El Reg article earlier.

If that Adobe policy is solid, it hurts. Like many others I have thousands invested in Creative Suite, don't want to use the cloud for sensitive material, and couldn't even if I wished.

That said, when Adobe started the subscription thing a year or so ago the sky-writing was on the cloud.

General Software Discussion / Re: Steam, and customer satisfaction
« Last post by cranioscopical on May 05, 2013, 08:34 PM »

I'm fed up with Steam--it's coming out of my ears.

The idea of buying a game from the local store and then having to wait the better part of a week in order to play it seems preposterous.

OTOH, I've had some good bargains from them.

Past the $300 mark -- thanks everyone!  :-*
And a mighty fine hub cap it is too!

Site/Forum Features / Re: Google ad test
« Last post by cranioscopical on May 01, 2013, 09:12 PM »

FWIW, to me the absence of ads implied a level of integrity at DC that just cannot be matched when there are 'bad' ads, 'good' ads, or any ads at all.

It takes a long time to establish a good reputation but very little time to lose it.

Thanks for reporting your experience. Could well help someone else.

Put up a barometer so that we can see the progress?

  Afoot  |  bicycle  |  rickshaw  |  moped  |  banger  |  half-decent  |  decent  |  Bentley turbo  |  Bombardier BD-700

@kunkel321

So, what other interesting frame/mask combinations are you going to create for us?  :)

Weird -eh?
Yet, at the same time, strangely wonderful  :o

They're already in the air.

Here's my result with the latest beta...
