anyone here use one of these beasties?

I've got the itch to get one and I don't know whether or not it's a worthwhile investment (help save me from myself!!)

I have a friend who uses one and he seems to like it, but the online reviews are mixed

FWIW I mostly play shooters (single player), but I'd like to think it would have uses beyond gaming

Whenever I see something like this, the first thing that comes to mind is, "Wouldn't your arms get tired?"
(see attachment in previous post)
Really? The first thing that comes to my mind is: OMG! Cats! Their tails!!! What if they were suddenly able to get access to Internet? Humanity would be doomed!

all the youtube clips will be of cats ass's...

now that I think about it, that might have already happened  :-\ :o

DOH, I never thought much about the OS

We're a MS shop, so Win7 and/or XP (we're in the process of migrating).

It's also a corporate lan so that drive is sitting on a machine 'somewhere' (probably a VM). It could be nearby, but most likely it's 2000km away.  If I could access the drive directly this wouldn't be an issue

I managed to find 'a copy' that might have been the latest version (or not), but it will get us out of trouble.  If nothing else it will motivate me to setup the backup process I've been planning...

thanks anyway

I'm pretty sure I know the answer already, but I'll ask anyway

A colleague made the unfortunate mistake of overwriting an important document that's stored on a (shared) network drive and we need to recover it if at all possible.

any idea's?

actually it's surprising how often these sorts of posts are popping up these days

many people 'in the business' seem to be realising how intrusive or demanding 'always on' is becoming and how little reward they're actually getting from it (or perhaps the cost doesn't justify the benefit), and they're actively choosing to either disconnect, or to severely curtail their online activities in favour of 'a normal life'...

Test version with external applications added:

I think Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C are enough for this task.

looks good

I note that there are 3(?) buttons on the toolbar that don't have icons - is this an oversight, or part of your dev tools?

you're most welcome :)

The vertical line was included because it was in the app you quoted (Cross Hair).  If you don't need it then as you already worked out it's not a problem to remove it

to change the colour of the font insert the following -

gui, font, cRED [sXX BOLD]

you can substitute any colour you like for <RED>, but you'll need to provide the RGB value for anything that's not in the standard pallete.

The 'sXX' option will set the font size, and the 'BOLD' will, well, make the font bold.  You don't need to use either of these, but feel free to experiment and find something that's comfortable for you

FYI, that line of code needs to be added before the line adding the groupbox (ie line 13)

Sweet, Thanks!  Did you just make this, Target?  (It'll be kindof cool if you did make it--since it looks like a "target"  :)  )  It seems to work well.
I think I'll try the ************************  thing and see if I can get it to work.

you asked, so...

and for those that are interested, but not inclined to fiddle with the script, attached is a version with the aforementioned change

I will check what I can do.

The problem here is: I am always overthinking things, so now I have not only an idea for starting external application with some parameters BUT to also have WM_MESSAGES support. Darn me ;)

That works reasonably well.  First tried it in Windows Explorer ... went full screen.  After a moment's reflection, that makes sense, since explorer is the desktop  :-[ ;D.

Tried it again in Firefox ... worked just fine.  However, those lines are just a bit too fine for these old eyes.  Guess I could go in and play with it, since the .ahk file is part of the download.  Have to make the hotkeys adjustable - I hate hotkeys  :o - since those are occupied on my system.

it will only go full screen if the nominated window is also full screen - if you resize the window, then the cross hair window will resize to match

EDIT: I just tested this and it goes full screen on the desktop.  Window spy reports the desktop (in Win7) as 'program manager', so I assume that would explain the behaviour (kind of...)

hotkeys are very personal, so by all means change them.  This was a first cut, so I expected some feedback (I rarely use any of the snacks I do so I tend to re-use a standard set of hotkeys)

not sure if there's much you can do about the thickness of the lines.  This is really a kludge using group boxes, and I'm pretty sure there's not much scope for customising them.

Actually, you can add a v e r y long literal (eg 5000 asterix) to the horizontal control.  This would be thicker than the controls outline, but should't be obtrusive (at least it looks OK ish on my desktop at 1680 X 1050)

how about this...

ScrSht.png

runs in the background, and applies a 'cross hair' to the nominated window (only).  'Cross hairs' are hidden when that window is not active

Hotkey WIN+F1 toggles the 'cross hairs' on and off, ie to switch to another window/application, activate that window then toggle the hotkey off then on again.

Hotkey WIN+Right Mouse Button 'freezes the 'cross hairs'

Hotkey WIN+X to exit

a feature request

I'll admit to not following this thread closely so this may have already been requested, but here goes anyway

I would like the option to add a link (toolbar button?) to an external application, eg mobysaurus and/or wordweb.

no biggy, but these kind of go hand in hand for me

This is a very handy tool - I used it for a while to distribute a handful of files at work but had to find an alternative because McCafee (our corporate AV solution) seemed to (randomly) take exception to it and would delete the executable without warning.  YMMV, but worth a mention

I should redefine my needs as,
text folding (primarily),
font size change (even just globally (like notepad.exe)), and past in jpg, png, bmp (perhaps icons) for reference would
both make good secondary features.
(being able to specify picture/icon placeholder size would be a great additional feature)

So far it would appear that both notepad++ and EmEditor both do text folding. If any know of an editor that is lighter and/or focuses on text folding and features above then posters can still holler.

as of now I have no need of folding of code(s),.. But one day I would like to learn how to make firefox addons.
-gtrur3476433 (July 16, 2012, 03:50 PM)

folding is probably something of a hack, ie the editors use a tag (like HTML) to indicate text 'grouping'.  It's a useful feature, but I've yet to see it in anything other than a plain text editor.

Unfortunately the insertion of images (or anything other than text for that matter) is something that text editors do no do - for that you need (at least) a rich text editor  (like wordpad).

Have you considered using a notetaking or stickies app instead?  could use separate 'notes' for each group, and most offer a hierarchical tree view of your notes...
749
just to confirm my understanding, the points of comparison are as follows

by timestamp (with a tolerance of +/- 2 minutes), then if you get a 'match' by value

or look for a transaction that is within a corresponding envelope, then see if the transaction value matches...

and do you want to see the result in a separate worksheet/book, or within the individual sheets?

And you should be able to attach some sample files if you archive (zip?) them first (that would make it easier to try and come up with an answer)

sounds like your looking for an editor with 'folding'

Notepad++ is one such (note that you will need to enclose your groupings in brackets for this feature to work)
