General Software Discussion / Re: VirtualProtect

With 32 bit it's a lot more guesswork to figure out which protection software I'm running

That's just security through obscurity though, hardly something one can rely one.

Plaintext emails are like postcards, you didn't bother to put it in an envelope so the postman is perfectly entitled to read it 8)

Ok I've an idea so I'm in this year!

Well don't forget urlwolf the architectural switch is from the Vista SP1 base to Win7 so in some ways it a big step. Though I'm definitely not defending MS here, just playing devils advocate :)

Must glance through the book out of curiosity.

There are probably institutions out there with even more info on us than Google.

The Registry Optimizer *always* breaks MS Office 2003 installation

This is the reason why you show never let any program optimize the registry. Stay away from them all.

Of course people seem to be forgetting that this is just what capitalism is all about. It's not really surprising behaviour :-\

I too would think that scripting languages are very real programming languages. There is a lot more to computing than just producing an exe.

[edit to clarify] I mean computing as in computation, not as in computing :D

I suppose I should also add to that the bits I found so outrageous were the comments and conclusions on security which seemed to be based on nothing other than random notions.

That combined with how little concerned he seems to be about backwards compatibility meant I just couldn't take the comparison seriously.

Curtis Franklin agrees with Superboy!

Absolutely no ill towards you Zaine but that comparison linked is laughably naive and illogical. It baffles my sometimes how far removed some people are from reality.

C++ is my language of choice these day. And since some of it's faults are being pointed out I'll add that once you use the Boost libraries it really feels like a different language entirely. I think it's an absolute joy to use and after getting up to speed I've found my opinions of templates changing from "have their uses" like MilesAhead to seeing them as almost being the essence of C++. Ok maybe exaggerated a bit but the sentiment is clear.

Well Aero glass runs fine on my EeePC, a 1005HA with just integrate Intel graphics, so your card must definitely work.

I'm not at my Win 7 PC now but can you not just recover most of the Classic Start menu behaviour in a quicklaunch-esque toolbar?

Either way I don't miss it. In Vista initially I used to switch to the classic menu alright but once or twice of forgetting to do it showed me just how good the new menu was.

Ha true. I'm sure there are advertising laws which prevent just this type of situation. The UK to the best of my knowledge has very good laws for protecting people for example.

Applying them to the internet though is a very different story.

A ListView will hang if the CompareProc returns inconsistent results, eg a < b < c but c < a.

In the code posted there seems to be a logic error in line 20, really seems like it should be return i2-i1;

I've a 204b coincidently, no troubles yet though. Will have to bookmark this just in case. Thanks :)

Though not crystal clear on the matter they do at least seem to be less worried about such things

The FTC's proposal made many bloggers anxious. They said the scrutiny would make them nervous about posting even innocent comments.

To placate such fears, Cleland noted that the FTC's enforcement priorities make it more likely an advertiser would be targeted for disclosure or testimonial violations than a blogger. The exception would be a blogger who runs a ''substantial'' operation that violates FTC rules and already received a warning, he said.
