Ok, was searching this thread because I wanted to make a suggestion: how about we come up with some original content to celebrate the switch to a proper cms. Was thinking about stuff like reviews, short stories, new SW, member discounts, whatever.

Do you mean this suggestion Phil?  We are working like mad on the CMS at the moment and I fear mousers brain is close to exploding with everything that needs doing so he may have simply overlooked it :)

Concerning the translate box: harmless, yes, a distraction non the less.

For Firefox, the Remove It Permanently add-on seems to work toward this end.

For Chrome, I tried Page Eraser, but didn't figure out how to get it to work across an entire site.

Just tried Stylebot with some success -- right click on element, choose 'Stylebot', choose 'Style Element', look for the 'Layout & Visibility' section, and click on the 'Hide' button.  Not ideal perhaps and may not work specific elements only, but at least it can hide the 'Translate' pop-up...

Don't know about other browsers / platforms.

Thanks for the suggestions ewemoa!

Nevertheless, @mouser, I would prefer '-translate', if it's easy to do.

I assume you use AbBlockPro (Assuming cause...well...I don't know anybody that doesn't) - if so, click the icon, click "block element" then click the translate box (and anything else you wanna hide) - they are now gone :)

rj, can you elaborate a little bit -- since i don't often view the pages that show replies to my posts, i'm not familiar with what used to be shown/possible from there.

or to put it a different way -- im not sure if you are saying that there was a page of replies that used to behave differently, or use to have additional options, or if you are saying just that you used to be able to ignore topics on a one by one basis -- and if the latter -- can someone tell me how this option to ignore a topic was presented -- i.e. where the choice to do that was.

Explained on IRC since I didn't notice you asking this here and I want the same thing...but to clarify for others:

On this page: https://www.donation...action=unreadreplies there used to be an option that allowed you to select which posts you wanted to never hear from again - sometimes we post in things and the discussion becomes irrelevant to us and we lose interest - on DC2 we can only mark as read which is a pain when you comment on a lot of different topics that you lose interest in so being able to "Ignore Selected Topics In The Future" is a pretty nice thing to have (Which we did on the old server)

The mobile version looks fine on my Android. Great work, mouser!

The main website will soon (in 30 days or so?) be completely moved to cms and it will also be responsive/mobile friendly -- we have that working well already.  So looks like we are on the right path.

Orly?  ;D

Embedded YT video working here in PaleMoon without a Flash plugin

Testing :)

EDIT// works here in PaleMoon *without* a Flash plugin

Yeah, YouTube stuff has been changed to HTML5 on DC now - It also supports vimeo videos using [vimeo][/vimeo]

Very minor:

The 'Forum' link at the very top of the page (in the menu style row of links) does not work when one is in the forum -
there is a logic to this - but it's not the case with the other links up there, so a lack of consistency there.

(Me, I would just set it for forum home and leave it at that.)

The one here?

Website Home | Blog | Software | Reviews and Features | Forum | Help | Donate | About us

If I click "Forum" it takes me to the root of the Forum (Which is what I assume you meant but isn't working for you?)

yourvideo.webm. You cannot upload that type of file. The only allowed extensions are txt,jpg,jpeg,gif,mpg,png,zip,rar,7z,ahk,fbs,mov,avi,mpg,rm,exe,mid,mp3,wav,grid,opml,tgz,gz,xml,ini,alias,wma,ogg,xz,pdf,apk,wmv,mp4,asf,webp.
-DonationCoder

webm is (was?) the declared future of videos on the web, and is regarded as safe content in Firefox, Internet Explorer and Edge. Surely webm is a must for allowed filetypes here on DC?!

Probably just something he missed, it was only last year I alerted him to the fact JPEG files couldn't be uploaded yet JPG could be (SMF is very literal when it comes to things lol)

The actual upgrade *might* take place a little earlier than the 1st.. perhaps this weekend, in order to guarantee that the upgrade is smoothly finished by the 1st.

I shall translate that for everybody:

"I just want to get this over and done with as quickly as possible then I can go back to having some sort of real life again"  ;D

FAQ - I cannot enable Cortana alpha in India. How do I get it work?
Share in Facebook
Tweet
In this way you can get Cortana’s alpha version working on your phone in India.

First of all, you need to have Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, check your phone OS version from Settings > about > more information. You will need OS version 8.10.14141.167 or later. Try to get an update from Settings > phone update > check for updates if required.

Then, set your phone to the correct region, language and select English (UK) speech language:

Region - India,
Language- English (India)
Speech language - English (UK)
To do that, follow the steps below:

Select Settings > region, tap Country/Region, select India and tap restart phone if required.
Select Settings > language. If English (India) appears on the language settings screen, long tap on it and select move up. Or add a new language: Tap + add languages, select English (India), tap done and finally tap Yes to start downloading. This change requires restart, tap restart phone.
Select Settings > speech, tap Speech language and select English (United Kingdom). Tap Yes to start downloading and track its status from Settings > phone update. Once the speech package is downloaded, tap install and your phone will automatically restart.
Wait for your phone to install the update, during that you will see gears rotating on the screen for up to 10 minutes.
Once ready, a new screen stating that the update is completed. Tap done, and go to Settings > speech, tap Speech language and select English (United Kingdom).
When your phone is set to the correct region, language and speech language, go to Cortana by pressing the Search key. You will see two Cortana acknowledgement screens, where you will need to review the info and accept the conditions for using the Cortana alpha version.

Want to disable it?

Disabling is easy. Just change your phone's language back to English (India) and Cortana will disappear. When you tap on the Search key, you would get Bing search instead.

I am trying to sign up.  After filling in the form, there is no Submit button.  Pressing Enter in any of the fields does nothing.   Pretty strange.

Anyone know the secret handshake?

OK..I'm gonna just come right out with it...

WHY?

Living Room / Re: Brightness Settings Reversing - No apparent reason.
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on August 19, 2015, 06:18 PM »
Are the Acer power-management tools/drivers/add-ons installed? They caused similar behavior on a slow Acer laptop I serviced few weeks ago, where this happened when the Acer-'enhanced' power-setting was enabled. Switching to a standard power-scheme fixed it for me.

No too sure off hand if they are installed, but the power settings don't (seem to) change at all no matter if I am plugged in or on battery (I set the power options to do that awhile ago whilst troubleshooting another issue that would make the laptop lag o hell when it was plugged in)

Me too, perpetually.
You have my sympathies.
Disregard @rgdot's silly comment about "Poltergeist" - maybe he's got his pills mixed up, otherwise his technical causal problem analysis skills would seem to be clearly lacking. Still, you could try exorcism if you feel he might be on the right track, I suppose.     :o

It does sound like an unusual problem though - at any rate, I don't recall having heard of it before now. I tried this search: Brightness settings reversing on Acer Aspire
Not sure if there's anything useful there. Your query on DC forum comes up in the list.

Yep. can't find a damn thing about it haha - Nothing on Google, nothing on Acers forums, nothing even remotely close to it...very odd lol

Living Room / Brightness Settings Reversing - No apparent reason.
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on August 18, 2015, 08:42 PM »
Over the past few weeks (Before upgrading to Windows 10 and since the upgrade) my laptop has been acting rather odd.  When I close the lid (Which puts her into hibernate) or reboot the laptop, the brightness settings reverse.  It happens regardless of if I am using mains power or battery...If my brightness settings were full when I shut the lid, when I open it, I have a black screen and have to turn brightness DOWN for it to be UP...then if I reboot/shut the lid and open it, it will do it all over again.

Laptop is an Acer Aspire E 15 (E5-51-C619) - My Mrs has one of these as well, though she hasn't had this issue (still on Windows 8.1 on here, but since my problems started whilst on 8.1, I doubt that's really important).  I haven't installed anything in ages other than Win 10 (Except for one Windows Store game which I added after the problem started) and have not uninstalled anything except for Fallout: NV, which was yesterday via Steam.  Checked for Malware/Spyware/Viruses etc, nothing detected -_-

Needless to say, I am very confused.  Anybody have any sort of clues as to why this is happening?

Were you on regularly?  I would just be surprised if you paid for content and there wasn't a migration plan put in before 4/30.

Just because you make the effort to notify everyone and offer a migration plan, doesn't mean that people will pay attention to their e-mail, see it, respond to it appropriately, and in a timely manner.

Would have been nice if they even did that, but they made no attempt to care.  Those who purchased the onive hardware after April this year got refunded, but that's it!  People who had the premium service for CloudLift at least managed to keep save game files - I just lost everything I ever purchased there.

I last loaded it up around Feb/March time, and there was absolutely no mention of it (via the client at least).

Well....Talk about annoyed....Here I am, sat watching crap on Youtube when I see a clip from the early 1900's which gave me a craving to boot up OnLive so I can play some Mafia II (I have bought several games via OnLive) - Much to my disappointment I learned that they have shut down, and because it was a streaming service I no longer have access to the things I paid for...

This...is exactly the reason I fucking HATE not having hard copies...and also the reason I hate this "Always Online" bullshit the games industry force upon us...It will also be the last time I buy a game that doesn't come with a direct download that I can play even if a service shuts down.

After five years of uninterrupted service, the OnLive Game Service comes to an end.
Sony has acquired important parts of OnLive. Due to the sale, all OnLive services were discontinued as of April 30, 2015.

As the first-ever game streaming service of its kind, everyone who has ever played a game using OnLive has contributed to the technology and its evolution in some way. We’re immensely proud of what’s been achieved and extend our heartfelt gratitude to you for being a part of the OnLive Game Service.

Thank you from all of us at –
OL2, Inc. (aka, OnLive)
