Speaking of notes organizers and outliners, my recent/current favorite (TreeProjects) was going through quick development but has slowed in the last year. Waiting for its v3.0.

General Software Discussion / Cloned software and licensing issues
« Last post by rgdot on January 04, 2014, 05:01 PM »
Recently I wrote a review of ShareX (links below) which is a GPL screenshot grab and share software. Days later I also reviewed Lollipic which looked very much like a clone of ShareX. Of course the similarity was too obvious not to mention.
Today I received an email from "ShareX developers" with a request to remove the Lollipic review. The same email included a link to a reddit discussion about another apparent ShareX clone (NeoxScreen, not reviewed by me). The issue had been raised at reddit that at least [emphasis mine] NeoxScreen provides its source code and since ShareX is GPL it is free to copy, clone, fork. However, I don't see a link to the source code at the Lollipic site.

Any thoughts?

XP and yes writable folder (often use desktop without issue)

Not all apps run well from the desktop. Try moving it to somewhere else. I have learned from experience that the desktop is best for storing shortcuts to apps and not the apps themselves.  ;)

Tried elsewhere, same thing. XP is slowly giving up just in time for April  :D

Why didn't you do this when I asked a while ago? https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=35209.0  ;D

Not exactly this but the motivation was very very close.

Tempted to revisit it, it was very slow (to login and therefore to access it) when I tried it last year now

Strangely none of those listed in the linked thread made a difference. Same error.

However it works fine on 7, if you want to pursue the XP issue further, I will try other things. However, if there are no other similar reports then it's no problem, who knows what's up with my XP (if all goes as planned I will say goodbye to it in April anyway)

If I am correct that it is

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings

then it is enabled.

Doubtful but not sure if there is something wrong with my XP, one way or another I can try epCheck on Windows 7.

I have had this laying around. Misguided (I am not a gamer) gift from a few years back, maybe someone is interested?

Unopened Project Gotham Racing 4 for XBox. North America (it's NTSC), will pay shipping.

General Software Discussion / Re: Best method for a dead simple web site?
« Last post by rgdot on December 14, 2013, 03:26 PM »
Setting up your own domain should be recognized as a different beast from hosted solutions.
All or most hosted solutions like WordPress.com are basically sign up and 'Add new something' and a bit more for choosing themes for example.
As far as self hosted goes the WP installer is surely the easiest? with or without dealing with Fantastico type tools. Also with WP afterwards you need something like ftp rarely (often never) which adds another layer of complexity for the non-techy user.

General Software Discussion / Re: Google ranking change turns table on spammers
« Last post by rgdot on December 13, 2013, 10:17 PM »
All good if Google and other search engines actually reward. If you get rid of something bad you better reward the good behaviour. In my experience setting up sites the latter is rare. I know of two sure ways of being ranked well:
1)A niche/specific subject or topic. You will see a high rank if someone explicitly queries the specific key words ... obviously if I search for "cody donationcoder" I should get donationcoder.com on page one. Doesn't need a complicated algorithm.
2)The site is popular .... again, if first result is cnn.com/_topic containing your query string_ what's the point of algorithms?
