The way I heard it was a bit shorter.  "There are 2 types of people in the world.  Those who divide the world into 2 types of people, and those who don't."  :)

Folder Cache 3.3 added Tray Menu command to open the four most recent folders. Can be set as default command via .ini file. Instead of popping up the window and choosing folders, you can double click the tray icon to open up the last four.

General Software Discussion / Re: how can I convert swf files to avi?

Here's a good reference:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools

Use the dropdown list to find the From and To combination of your conversion. It generates a list of freeware/shareware/some wicked expensiveware too.

That's an especially good site to consult before buying a DVD player too.  Has formats that can really be played by user comment, remote hacks, all kinds of good info.

Try a safe registry search app for the phrase.  Perhaps Registrar Lite.

I haven't used it myself, but this looks like what you mean:

Hmmmmm, how about the category of "Host(s) who ridicule the movies in order to get you to watch schlock flix?" I can think of MST3K, Elvira Mistress of the Dark, The Cool Ghoul, Pheep(guy in a costume.. he's supposed to be an alien but he looks like a lightbulb with a megaphone in his mouth.)  That's all I get off the top of my head.  Anyone have any other nominees?  :)

40hz I wouldn't want to be havin' no heart condition with that babe around! ;)

I couldn't find a free dedicated tool myself that didn't leave a watermark or link, for general purpose.  The only really cool automated .chm creation tool I found was one that documented Delphi components.  You just commented at the start of each procedure and function and it put it all together.

Other than that I pretty much winged it with the MS workshop download.

The other thing that might be worth looking at is TreePad.  I've only used the Lite version but they claim html and image support in the Pro.  Not sure if it's really what you want though.

But that show was razor-sharp. Beyond all the surrealism there was some smart writing with clever plot devices that have not been seen before or since.

Yeah, every time I have the misfortune to deal with hospitals, health insurance, yadda yadda, I think of the sequence where Zev blows up the moon behind the hospital satellite and all of a sudden they offer health care pro bono! Wish I had me one of them big bugs sometimes. :)

Truly weird series. Especially the first season with the original cast.

(I also thought Eva Habermann did a better portrayal of the character Zev than Xenia Seeberg did. But maybe that's just me. ;D)

I thought Xenia Seeberg looked really lame until she landed on planet Fire.  After Prince took the guk off her she emerged with a hot hairdo and outfit that made all the difference.  Both babes were good though.

Plus, let's not forget one of the freakiest TV shows of all time, LEXX.  Talk about weird! It's bad enough to have a contract put out on you but for some reason I don't want to be killed by a dead assassin.

OTOH, if you have to be President of the USA, Bunny is hotter than most first ladies I've seen. ;)

Miles, I know what you mean...I think I only saw one Bada Bing girl in the entire series run that I found really attractive.
Yeah, it's pretty bad when you're hoping Meadow takes a shower. ;)

As for the show ending, the official reason was that they wanted to go out on top before they started to run out of ideas and the show became lame and sad.
As it was I think they rehashed some old plot pieces and stuck 'em together.  Seems to me they redid the bit about people having their "goodie bags" ripped off near the end of the series that was originally done when Christopher was selling his movie script.  Plus that same episode had some other stuff that tasted like used coffee grounds.  Can't remember exactly but there were 3 or 4 elements that were pure rehash.

I hope he stashed his money away because I am willing to bet him doing that Tony Awards gig didn't pay too many bills. ;)

I can't believe they sold it to A & E with the audio euphemism insertions.  I mean, the only way I could watch that would be if Joel Hodgeson and a couple of robots made sarcastic comments while the show was playing on a screen in the background. ;)

There are some freeby help generators and utilities that convert a folder full of html into an index.html with a link for each page.  That sort of starts you in the direction of .chm table of contexts and index.  Try this link for a start

Glad you got it working. I wish I had a database of registry hacks.  Seems to be you have to find them hit and miss on tweak sites. :)

Coding Snacks / Re: IDEA: Tooler-like GUI and shortcut maker for NirCmd
« Last post by MilesAhead on June 06, 2009, 11:10 PM »
A simpler approach may be just to create a bunch of .cmd files.  Most would be 1 liners right out of the NirCmd help.  Just substitute %1 for the filename param if it needs a filename.  Then you can drag & drop the file onto the shortcut for the .cmd file if you don't want to type in the command line param.

Rather than just make a GUI to generate a bunch of 1 line scripts, somebody wanting to use NirCmd in a GUI program would just use the .dll and call the functions. Just substituting in command line blanks is pretty boiler plate.

You should look for similar keys with a different browser if you don't use Firefox.  That .reg script is a standard Firefox fix for that error message. Is there a ddeexec in the registry for Opera?  You can always use something like ERUNT to back up your registry before experimenting.  In the script the minus sign means to delete the entries.

Whatever you use, do something so you can put the Registry back the way it was, restore point or ERUNT or some other method.

Whenever I do a reinstall of Firefox I get that error(at least that happened on v. 2.x Firefox) and I'd have to run that script again.  It shouldn't hurt anything to delete those keys.  The backup is just to be backed up. :)

Maybe a search(not surge) will turn up the technical info if he was right.
Just make sure that information is current!

Those with W7 32 bit may want to try Sandboxie v. 3.38. On the download page it has a disclaimer about only supporting build 7100 but it works fine on my 7077.

http://www.sandboxie.com/

If you try installing please take the precaution to save all your work and maybe make a restore point if you use them.  It uses some sort of virtual disk driver, among other things, to make sure apps in the sandbox can't write outside the sandbox without permission. If your machine doesn't like the driver, it may crash at the point of installation(there's a warning page in the install dialog.  Just thought I'd mention it to avoid the unpleasant surprise.)  It happened to me a couple of times on older HP machines of the Pentium 4 vintage.

ReOpen build 2.6.0.8 and later.. minor fix.  Changed file open code so it detects .exe files and uses the folder where the .exe file is located as "start in" target or working directory.  Some programs create shortcuts with the .exe file location in the "start in" field and just assume filenames with a relative path will find their settings and other files. Now they should work as expected.

Interesting side note: The server's battery backup is plugged into one of those cheap-O "Surge Strips" ... The breaker in the strip never tripped.

I'm not an electronics expert but someone technically adept in electronics told me never to plug one surge protecting device into another.  According to this dude, it's worse than having no surge protection at all.  Some mumbo jumbo about wave forms or something.  Just thought I'd pass it on. Maybe a search(not surge) will turn up the technical info if he was right.

Miles, laughs...that could very well be, but I had always thought the series was going to be the rise and fall of Tony Soprano. What made that show so good, I guess, is there are so many ways to interpret what happened over the run of the show.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised when Tony started talking about staying in the background.  I thought, wow, this is really different.  But I guess that type of psychological drama would be difficult to maintain over time.  For all I know the show may have ended early just because there wasn't enough eye candy. I mean those babes at Badda Bing just didn't do anything for me!! And no wonder those guys were so violent!! Look at the women they had to live with!! Geez!! I think I'd break out the Thompson submachine gun myself!! :)
