Thanks a lot for the tip  8)

Or maybe I should create an alarm to greet me at every startup?:
  • You got things to do!

Or maybe not, I like my desktop as it is, and I don't like ToDo programs..

Anyway, I was at work, and got all too stressed up to remember the little things I use to do, when I came home.

I use Acronis True Image.....and keep my install files - everything is backed up to an external enclosure.

I believe you should be home and free then.

-

However, you did forget to supply a link to Acronis True Image  icon_mrgreen.gif

The price is $50 but if you abort the purchase it will offer a 10% cutdown, making it $45
- still a lot of money...

No, it wont replace the System Restore in the way that you can use it to Roll Back. But maybe the question is not if it will replace XP System Restore or not, but if System Restore is worth anything to you. XP System Restore has been worth nothing to me, and you told that System Restore never worked for you. So there you have it!

But do remember that Erunt only will backup the registry keys. Each time you delete a program / anything, the backup cannot recreate such. If you want a genuine Roll Back option, you will have to create Images of the entire PC. Erunt cannot do that; it will not offer you the chance to roll back if you have deleted the wrong file or the wrong program, only the chance to recreate the registry - and for this it will need the original files to be present. I have learned the hard way to keep everything, until the PC have been working for several days with any new programs / updates. Don't empty your basket too soon!

Combination of Outpost FW and Spysweeper was a real killer on my system response!
-Carol Haynes (April 28, 2007, 04:47 AM)

I was forced to unplug the PC and remove Spysweeper in F8 SafeMode (Win2K with Outpost). I asked the company what to do, but they only gave me instructions on how to remove Spysweeper, so I guess they are familiar with the problem...

Regarding Word (2003), I have made the choice not to have NOD32 check my documents when I work. Knowing my station is clean I think it is overkill to check every document, when you are not downloading / installing, and in the end the scanning time became too annoying.

I tried iTunes for some time, but gave it up: I could not find the goodies to match the bads. iTunes is like using Office Automatic Update and have an update that failed to install; the PC wil be useless for   s e v e r a l   minutes at each and every upstart.

Curt - just goes to show how smart you have to be to have a good command of the English Language!

In fact the two most difficult languages in the world are said to be Danish and Japaneese.
- Did you know that the English language has some 500 words from Danish...?   ;)

A Nordic example (Danish, Dutch, German, English, Norwegian, Swedish and Icelandic):

"Phew!"?? I don't see it this way. The author doesn't pretent to be some kind of philanthropist or hide that he is trying to make a living out of programming. In my mind the problem is that I never cared to check these 'features', because I have no need for them, but only assumed they were fully available in the free version. (But who would ever need the $30 Spartan version then?) My bad it is.

:-[  When I'm stressed I'm tending to post too hasty - and I'm stressed right now: For two days we have been serving several hundred people more than usual, at work. Re-reading my "disclaimer" I can now see that becuse of my poor wording, I have yet again given the wrong impression: The M8 Free Clip WILL DO all these tricks! But the author removed the permanent memory part, meaning that these smart links will 'roll off' as soon as you add new clips, and so be almost worthless. Teasing only.

Hope I got it right this time...  8)

DISCLAIMER:

M8 Free Clip features:

This is VERY embarrassing to me: Guess what, these links (Form Filling, Internet Bookmarks, Dial, e-mail, and Run/Open) are teasers to get you to buy the $$ version (M8 Spartan); the Free Clip can not do all this! But, as I wrote in another post, I do not want my clipboard to boil my eggs, I just want it to manage the clips, so I never tested if it really could do all this. And it can't.

Big time SORRY!   :-[

M8Free.png

Spartan has all the features you would expect, clip preview, sound, keyboard only pasting, automatic web bookmarks, automatic email addressing, form filling, web logon, phone dialing, program launch, and bulk paste. It pastes graphic clips directly into Outlook Express ( You can even have it automatically reduce large photos) and it has onboard editors for both text and graphic clips. It even includes its own built in backup and restore system to keep your clip files safe.

I took at it as "no=I don't generally use it" and "never=I NEVER USE IT EVAR!"

Almost the same for me:

"No": It so happens that I am using something else, but if 'this or that', I might use 7-Zip.
"Never": I am not using it, and never will and never have - and I hate it.

"Blue": 7-Zip makes me sad...   :)

So I have added "private bytes" to the view. I never understood before what that is...

And the answer is "5 MB private bytes".

Thanks, f0dder, for the rapid explanation.

My Process Explorer says 4 MB "working set" and 61½ MB "virtual size" right now.

The "1.57 MB" was the size of the program in Add/Remove.

And it barely uses up 1,500ks of vm!

I imagine that "1,500ks" is 1.57 MB, but what is "vm"?

..., M8 Free Clipboard, ...
...  M8 Free Clipboard, but looking at its Web site, it looks pretty limited in comparison with some of the other free clipboard extenders.  ...

The homepage of M8 is a little strange, I think: the best / smartest features of the M8 Free Clip are not mentioned! But take a closer look at the options and think about what those buttons will do to a clipboard - Form Filling, Internet Bookmarks, Dial, e-mail, and Run/Open:

[Edit1+Edit2: This is VERY embarrassing to me: Guess what, these links are teasers to get you to buy the $$ version; the Free Clip will not remember these smart links - they will 'roll off' as soon as you add new clips! These features are only teasing. But, as I wrote in another post, I do not want my clipboard to boil my eggs, I just want it to manage the clips, so I never tested the program's memory on this. M8Free.png

- plus:
Outlook Compatible
  • One of the features of M8 is that you can paste any screen or graphic directly into the body of an Outlook Express email. With most other programs, you have to save graphics as JPEGs and then attach them.

Clip Editors
  • M8 has onboard editors for both text and graphic clips. The text editor has text cleanup utilities to remove HTML formating, email indents and hard returns.

I think M8 Free Clip is quite competitive.

I have never found any reason for me not to use 7-Zip!

I should add that it is very seldom I compress anything; I almost only unpack. Compression effeciency doesn't interest me. But easiness does. And this is where 7-Zip may be the easiest and maybe even the fastest unzipper: right-click the file and pick your choice. So easy that even I can understand how to use it.  I have tried many zippers, but 7-Zip is my favourite / favorite.

I have downloaded a movie its an avi file and windows media player 11 wont play it ...am I right in thinking I need to download and install a codec pack?? if so which one do I install Im a little confused there hundreds of them please help me
-chinablue32uk (April 25, 2007, 07:51 AM)

I think Windows Media Player is a fantastic media player. I have tested many players, but none have come even close to WMP 11 when it comes to the CPU usage. Windows Media Player 11 is extremely low on CPU usage. Fantastic gentle on CPU usage! But the codecs... oh dear! I would really like to WHIP somebody's bag! - somebody from Microsoft, that is. How dare they make such an incredible fantastic media player, and then make it almost worthless because it really cannot play anything out of the ordinary. In fact, not even the ordinay!

It would be nice to know if there are any codecs we can install into WMP 9, 10 and/or 11.
Which, if any, and How?   :tellme:

Agnitum Directions, April 26' - 2007: Vista migration survey

"(...) The outcome of the survey was quite surprising to us. It turned out that migrating to the new operating system (Vista) is more a question of whether, than when. Here are the figures:"

When do you plan to switch to Windows Vista?

September 2006:

  • I have no plans to change to Vista 31,03%
  • Within 6 months of release 16,16%
  • As soon as it’s available 15,52%
  • After release of Vista Service Pack 1 with major bug fixes 13,58%
  • More than 12 months after release 12,07%
  • Within 12 months of release 11,64%

March 2007:

  • I have no plans to change to Vista 69,25%
  • In a year 10,88%
  • In a month 10,18%
  • In 6 months 4,90%
  • In 3 months 4,79%

Judge for yourself what you think the trend is.

RegSeeker will only back up keys that you are using RegSeeker to delete, it will not do any "normal" kind of backups. ERUNT and ERUNT Autobackup will backup the registry only.
