Other things we could use to make this year's event special:

We have a standard mug design we tend to use, but it's always great if we can get an optional alternative design or two.   If you have artistic talents, we'd love to have some more mug designs that look different.  The resolution should be 1662x600.

Here's the standard design to show you the size and basic information on the mugs:

Some alternatives:

Ideally, any mug design should have a prominent role for Cody, our bird/duck mascot.

Things you can/should post in the NANY 2015 section of the forum (start new threads please):

  • A pledge post, in it's own thread, to say you will be participating, and what program idea you might try to code.
  • Ideas for programs that you'd like to see someone else try to code.  Non-coders we need your ideas!
  • Early releases of your software for others to test.

N.A.N.Y. 2015 / NANY 2015 - NEW APPS FOR THE NEW YEAR 2015 - START YOUR ENGINES!
« Last post by mouser on October 08, 2014, 04:54 AM »
Since 2007 we have held an annual event that we call NANY (New Apps for the New Year), where we ask the coders who hang out on DonationCoder to create some new piece of free software and share it with the world on January 1st of the new year (browse previous year entries here).

There are no winners or losers, it's simply a celebration of programming and creating new software and sharing it with the world.  You can target any operating system (desktop or mobile) or even make a web-based tool.  It can be a game, utility, large application, whatever.

Best of all, everyone who participates gets a free commemorative coffee mug.

NANY is really the funnest thing we do on this site, and it's one of the few times we can all play together.  If you're a coder, PLEASE participate! If you're not a coder, please cheer on the coders and help encourage them and give them ideas and cheer them on. Let the coding begin!

Just saw "The Signal".
I thought it was beautiful and great, assuming you don't go into it expecting much.  I suggest watching it without reading anything about it.

Thank you.  And thank you for understanding where I was coming from despite the rudeness of my post.

It just happened that Tom & Jerry was in the news recently and I thought it was of interest.

Don't get me wrong -- it's not that it wasn't of interest, on the contrary I often find such discussions of political correctness quite interesting -- it's just not the right place for those discussions.  I want to keep this thread happy and funny.

I *BEG* you not to make this thread on cartoons into a discussion of racism, political correctness, etc.

Ricky Gervais Show: this is basically the old popular podcasts from Gervais animated.  I've had some of my hardest laughs the past few years because of this show.  Pilkington animated can't go wrong, it's just too bizarre.  They animate Ricky laughing, which is also very very funny.

Agreed, great stuff.

H Jon Benjamin...he has one of those once-in-a-generation voices.

Agreed. He plays the son in the long running comedy cartoon series "Dr. Katz" and he plays one of my favorite characters of all time.  Laughed so much listening to him play Ben, the still-living-at-home-son.

Now if I can just get Mouser to trim down the quick popup list
you can control how many items appear in that list.

A DC member turned me on to one of my favorite new cartoons, Rick and Morty:
Screenshot - 10_6_2014 , 2_33_08 PM_thumb001.png

I'd say it's an adult cartoon, vs a kids cartoon. Full episodes can be legally watched online here: http://www.adultswim...deos/rick-and-morty/

Hilarious and surprisingly faithful to the science behind some of the absurdity.

I was just reading about how the era of Saturday Morning Cartoons for kids has ended.. That's pretty sad.  I have very fond memories of waking up early on saturday mornings and planning out what cartoons to watch.  There were some wonderful cartoons back then.

What are your favorites?

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Folder location
« Last post by mouser on October 06, 2014, 12:12 PM »
In general the program needs to know BEFORE it loads its settings, where its settings should be.  That's why to change settings location you have to edit the ConfigDir.ini file.
Of course I could allow an entirely separate location for clip database that could be put in settings but i thought they should probably be in same place as settings file.
7090
Glad it worked; i see now that the grid order is not affected by that SQL, it's only the popup menus that are; so i am changing the default ordering for QuickPaste for new users to the same as you have just changed yours -- seems more reasonable.

Ok so my new theory:

You probably manually set the ORDERING column value for your favorites, to values that you use to sort them.
But you've probably made those values lower than new clip ORDERING values of 0.
The QuickPaste menu obeys the ordering of the QuickPaste group, so its putting all favorites at top.
If you go into the QuickPaste group you will probably see your Favorites items at the top if sorted by the Order column.

Simple Solution:
Edit the QuickPaste group, change the Custom Menu Sorting SQL from "Ordering,ModificationDateTime" to "ModificationDateTime"

That should solve it.
7094
My QuickPaste has an SQL of:

NOT (IsInRecyleBin) AND CreationDateTime > DateTimeMinusOneDay AND (IsFavorite=false)

I'm quite sure that's your problem , though to be honest I'm going to have to look back into the code to figure out why that would result in the favorites showing at the top..  Might be something I have to fix.

Regardless, try chaging your sql for that group to what is shown above, that should fix it.  HMMM.. could be wrong here, i see that YOUR version is the one that comes with CHS, so that shouldn't have any effect on the POSITION of the favorites in the quick paste menu.

7095
So you are saying that newer clips still appear UNDER older Favorite clips in the quick paste menu?
Try this: Go to your "Quick Paste" group in the main window tree panel, right click it and choose Edit, to edit the Quick Paste group.
Now paste a screenshot of that Group Edit dialog.
Maybe the sorting is wrong.
7096
It's not extremely basic, but have you tried my Clipboard Help+Spell program: https://www.donation...pandspell/index.html

I think it can do all of those items -- if not, let me know what you need that it doesn't do.
7097
I've made a bunch of improvements that could hypothetically cause problems, so i'd love to hear more reports of beta testers before i release this one as official.  anyone?
7098
i'm afraid not.. im guessing that maybe the source and target window are using different character sets? does that make sense? in other words did you copy the cyrillic text from one app and paste into another?
7099
I'm going to try to make a couple more screencast videos about CHS and maybe redo the old introductory video.  Just going over tips and tricks and some of the more unusual features.  Let me know if there are some features or operations you'd like me to hit on.

Old existing screencasts are here: https://www.donation....com/screencasts/chs

I've added a couple of important features to the beta; i'd appreciate any bug reports.

New stuff:
  • [Feature] New clip grid menu items for creating new groups based on selection (moves clips) or search (creates a virtual group).
  • [Feature] Group tree drop target is now highlighting while dragging over it.
  • [Feature] Quick search/filter now provides a drop-down of favorite searches; set favorites in the Misc. Options 2 tab.
  • [Feature] Better statusbar info about selected group; reports total # clips in view and # selected.
