General Software Discussion / Re: Irfanview4 released

I don't and won't use IrfanView as image viewer, so I understand your point.

You cannot specifically allow/deny removal.  You can, however, tell PDRx to not look in certain areas to clean registry keys.

Welcome at DC, legion1978

... as good as irfanview (not takin into account those plugin things--no time for it) ...

No time for it??!!!   :o

The plugins are what makes IrfanView the leader of the pack!

Make time!

I have just tested this program for a couple of hours, and I would never trust it to clean up my reigistry! It may be safe to use, it may even be the best of the kind, but I wouldn't dare to use a program that will not tell which files it is going to delete. All it is telling is what kind of files they are, but not which file:

General Software Discussion / Re: Cybernet Recommends 5 IE Addons

... Didn't IE7Pro add addblock too? I dunno, I use it so infrequently.

Yes, they did. In my eyes IE7Pro seems to be changing and becomming more of a safety device of a kind instead of adding more useful features. The latest couple of updates has been disappointing to me.

Thanks, Brandon, I remembered after posting. I was just too mixed up to recall in the situation.

Number 500 was an elegy...

The audio CD I was recording suddenly exploded into a thousand pieces!   :o

Well, now I can leave it all to the IT mechanic, can't I.

---

I tried to enlarge the virtual memory to min 1024 and max 2048
- but after restart the setting was back to the normal 670 MB

I clicked at Optimate For Speed, and evrything went ugly gray / grey,
so I clicked Optimate For Best Looking, and everything went ugly blue!!
Arghh!! WHERE do I click to get back the silvern look?? Please! :tellme:

Ohh, what a day. I'll bet tomorrow is Monday..

- and this elegy was my post number 500; somehow I don't feel like celebrating   :(

I've been using his apps without any problems for longer than I can remember... too bad he seems to have abandoned them.

I think that is the problem; he has given up on updating. I guess he is busy doing other stuff. I hope! But it is okay, I think. Mike's star may be blurred, but it was shining, and you can't make a living by giving your work away for free all of your life. I was using Lin's apps when I was running Win98, and they were great. On Win2K some were still great, but not those I was hoping for. I have heard too many XP users complaining   to dare to try any of his apps at this new XP of mine.
7038
I gave up on Mike Lin because of too many crashes.

But that was me.

The graphic Card:

  • Graphic Card: VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro Integrated (takes 64 MB from the RAM)
  • GPU Code Name: UniChrome Pro  (Integrated 1106 / 3344, Rev 01)
  • GPU Speed: 200 MHz

-------

Can one buy extra virtual memory?
Right now I am doing very little, but Everest tells me this:

Phys' mem:
Total: 446 MB
Used: 394 MB
Free:   52 MB
88 %

Swap / Pagefile:
Total: 1052 MB
Used:   909 MB
Free:    142 MB
86 %

Virtuel Mem:
Total: 1498 MB
Used: 1303 MB
Free:   194 MB
87 %

I need memory! - and so does my PC   :-[

It turns out I must have misunderstood some info earlier given to me.
As far as I understand the new info, I have TWO 'sockets' / banks / slots, or whatever,  - places to place the RAM, and they are both so 'small' they can only carry 512 MB each.

- Isn't that what this test is telling:

MotherboardRAM.gif
?

To the best of my understanding this means that I can only have 2 x 512 MB. Would the advices I have been given here at DC be any different if you knew about this info?

To my surprise Crucial offered no updates for my graphic card either; there seems to be a problem concerning the slot for the grahics:

GraphicCard_NONE.gif
?
I am almost certain it is not becuase the grahic card is all up to date! (?) But what then?!

... At one point (this was long ago now so I do not remember the details) ...

Do you remember if you were driving XP at the time, or something else?
7042
I don't have IE7 to test.

If you try out AOL Explorer 1.5 you should be testing IE 7 as well.
Same engine and settings.

Thanks to this thread I am now using Startup Delayer too. When I installed it, it was entirely because StartRight for some unknown reason wouldn't function properly on my new XP, though it worked like a charm on the old Win2K. But now, a month later, I wonder how I got by without Startup Delayer. It is very simple (as is StartRight), but it does excatly what I would want it to. I don't care if the starting procedure actually is slower now, because it is more important to me that the weaker programs are all starting the way their author intended them to. I have far too many programs to expect all of them to open every time, without a manager. But now I can relax, knowing that ALL programs will open AND display their icon. And Startup Delayer is soo easy to use.

I recommend the simple Startup Delayer and StartRight
- keep it simple, dummy!  8)

Welcome, Trilinea  :-*

The author is writing on a major Chameleon update - and I mean MAJOR!! He is going to add several feaures in order to beat all the other managers... A couple of months ago he said it might be launched during May. But time will tell.

General Software Discussion / What are my settings missing to show this page?
« Last post by Curt on May 06, 2007, 07:54 AM »
I followed a link from DC Honorary Member sri and came to Tutorials For All.

My problem is that in both IE7 and AOL the page is almost empty, but it should look like this:

TutForAll.gif

- instead it is looking this way:

TutEmpty.gif

I have allowed almost everything, in fact I allowed so much that Windows denied to accept the setting and claimed it was unsafe - but still I cannot view this page in IE or AOL. So my question of course is what I might be missing? I don't think it is some program I am missing, because both IE7 and AOL actually can show this page; they both display it for less than half a second, but then some security setting (I guess) takes control and remove most of the content. The question is: which control?
 :tellme:

Are they aware of this, these Tutorial people? -
Must I study a tutorial on how to view their page? Because then I have a problem!
7046
The only way I can think of right now is to create a new folder in C:/ and place a shortcut to Favourites in it (I have done so). But its not quite the same you are asking for - its not as fast to use.
7047
You fellows are strange; why do you go to bed when it is almost high noon? Maybe you are situated the 'wrong' place? Move to Europe so I can buy you a beer (a genuine beer, that is: a pilsner!), and we can look at all the blondes and make sure they do have more fun...  8)
Sleep tight!

Newest version of QTTabBar 1.0.16 released maybe minutes ago just so happens to now have this feature. Maybe the author reads these forums?

Fantastic timing!  :o   :D

I am impressed with this new feature of QT Tab. The popup thumb even shows animations. Cool!

Here is an animation of the animation of an animation:

I'm surprised by Danish "again" being offered for OpenOffice. Maybe it was my Danish supplier who gave up OpenOffice, and not the other way around? Danish or not; I will have to overcome a certain part of myself (the $$$ part) if I should dump Office 2003, as I have paid big time money for the collection, and did so at a time when I had very little money (except for this day, of course). Anyway; Thanks for the tip!

I should tell that the kind I have is "Single channel DDR2-533 SDRAM"

Thanks for the warning; I really liked the description of the (supposed) features of this program and was thinking about giving it a try, but now I will hold my breath and stick with DM2 and PowerDesk DialogHelper and PS Hot Folders and SendTo Toys and True LaunchBar and PS Tray Factory and and

Curt, Instant ThumbView is unreliable because it does not always render the thumbnail.

I found out some hours ago and have already removed the app from my PC. But, as you said, its a pitty, because there seems to be no other of the kind; I have been searching the net for hours today (tonight, locale time), and found none. I found several that will display in the context menu, but no other that would show the thumb in a fast popup. Who's gonna code this snack? - or is it too big a meal?
