Have you tried to decode it?  It looks like encoded data... could be an Easter egg...

So that means no google apps on XP unless you use something other than IE.

Hmmm... that's going to go over well, I'm sure.  I only have Chrome/FF at work because I'm a developer and have admin privileges.  A lot of our internal apps don't support anything but IE.  But we use Google apps.

I see a definite conflict there...

If I ever actually get through.  I have the publication paralysis problem with my coding.  I keep tweaking and testing and tweaking, and never actually release.  NANY has helped somewhat in that regard... but I hate releasing applications with defects/problems or always see something to tweak so never release.

First - to reduce costs and to set the bar lower for production, set the minimal costs at B&W artwork.  Then have a stretch goal for color.  Maybe the baseline could also use clip art type art- and a stretch goal for original art.  You could also have stretch goals for a better stock of cards.  I guess what I'm saying is to take your goal for the cards, and reduce it to the bare minimum to give it a better chance of getting funded.  Then the stretch goals make it better.  There's also expansions as stretch goals.

As far as perks - something special to denote the judge could work.  One level for the basic game with no cards- just the rules and templates.  One for the full game, and one for the full game with overproduction type stuff, i.e. tokens included (which could instead be a stretch goal).  Perhaps by default the tokens could be a punch-out sheet, then as a donation level the tokens become chits instead.  Or that could be a stretch goal.

There's also the non game perks, i.e. artwork, t-shirts, mugs, etc.

What I find is that there seem to be a couple of schools of thought:
1. Make different perk levels to get people to get involved at a higher level, or
2. Make more stretch goals to get more people involved

It's just a matter of finding a balance between the two, though I think the second is better.  A low level to get in (with an underproduced game), then stretch goals to make it as extravagant as the player base wants it will get you two things: (1) a larger player base and (2) the production costs on the extras will be less.

(Also, I like writing this stuff down... I'm still working through my kickstarter idea, and bandying these sorts of decisions around... so this helps me vocalize stuff also. :))

I'd put in some extra leeway into your figures seeing how its gone with others who have done first games on kickstarter.  Going with about 10% would set your goal at $25,000.

For that matter, I don´t see how any one wood.
Enough of the caddy remarks!  :-[

I'm sure you two will be able to iron it out eventually. ;)

I don't know... both of them seem to have a chip on their shoulders.

@wraith -

Actually, it's not really a creative reinterpretation of the license at all. Microsoft did specifically take "small shop" and "custom builders" into consideration when they did the "builder OEM" license. That question came up in the partner channel when it was first announced. And yeah, you won't find the OEM version in stores AFAIK. You need to order it from someone like Tiger, Newegg, or one of those places.

And this is also why when I bought my mac at Bestbuy (since they're the same price anyway, their markups don't matter, and its one of the times when having a rewardzone membership pays off) and when he offered me a $200 copy of windows 7 and I said that I'd buy my copy of windows from Newegg he looked at me with a dirty look.  8)

^Nope. If you're a 'builder' you can get them in single quantities as long as you buy them at the same time you buy 'qualifying hardware' such as a mobo. Maybe the price isn't anywhere near as good as what Dell or HP get. (Rumors put it between $35 and $50 for the big quantity buyers.) But it's still substantially below retail. At Newegg, Win 7 Pro-64 is $139 for OEM, but $274 for the 'full' retail version.

That's just from third-parties who have purchased OEM versions in bulk that you re-purchase them from (that have creatively interpreted the license), isn't that correct?

^ Both go to the same place... from what I understand, you're correct in most cases.  It's possible to break with that convention, but I haven't seen it done in practice.

Another good choice is Belvedere. (on Github)

If you have an iPad, you can use the kindle app.  If you have the Nook, you can root it (I think).  But it's like a lot of other things... platform choice is key.

It makes sense from a business perspective.  Not defending it, but without those abilities, they'd slow down the sales of components, computers, and a lot of other associated services every time they released an OS.

It's fun to make puns. But not forever! :)
I did intend to use my last two and then quit… but there's a hole in one.

I don't know if I should hazard a reply to that one. :)

BdJ just removed a whole slew of comments.

Did they?  You mean from the RF2G thread?  I didn't notice it any shorter... what were they in regards to?

Hi,

A backup feature would only be relevant as an export-import option if it came with a restore feature that is available externally.  It would have to lack encryption (which goes against the expected internal encryption) and it would have to have the layout available, although that might be puzzled out, if there was not encryption.  Generally a backup is simply a mirror of the existing data file, which is useless for export-->import.

Sounds like simply another diversion, smoke and mirrors, from the Roboform crew.

Steven

That's why I didn't even bother posting the results here.  I'd been interested in roboform until this thread came up.  Now... not so much.

For the nook, they have a store specifically for kids:

Grouped by age range.  Some of them are retail prices, but there are some bargain (and free) books also.

^Likely that's a variation of the Coventry gambit.

But the goal of this sort of thing isn't to prevent crime. It's to protect the security and secrecy of certain entrenched political interests.

Like Hoover said, justice is incidental to enforcing law and order. So is fighting crime since people who are victimized by criminals provide the convenient benefit of demanding more restrictive laws and a larger police presence to enforce them.

To those who pull strings, ongoing violent crime is a win-win. Especially for the proponents of expanded government authority.

Sorry... got my links backwards.  The place that I was talking about that went into a bit more detail on how he touched the areas of EVE was linked from that piece... the Mittani's 'eulogy'.  It doesn't go into excruciating detail... I don't think that's totally necessary.  I mean, some might be interested, but I think that would be a smaller audience.  But enough to let you know without going over your head, IMO.

7022
Do you ingest anything to keep yourself awake? What's your normal diet?

What I'm really curious about is how top are we talking about? Would have been if the article went into details on this especially for those of us who don't play Eve Online.

Especially as the comments generated some talk about economics and politics.

The article talks about how top he was, in pretty good detail- being the person that was the mover behind the scenes on a lot of big grabs and the person that everyone came to for diplomacy put him pretty much at the upper echelons of EVE.  As for me, I drink coffee and tea... not necessarily to stay awake... it's just that I like coffee and tea.  And I don't have a particular diet, though when I did keep track, I ate a lot less than the daily caloric intake.  I don't think any of that has any impact... I just don't need a lot of sleep, and never have.
7023
No... I just don't sleep much  :P  But as I get older, there's eventually a crash and I sleep late.
7024
Gaming... And leading a guild/alliance? How did he manage to do his job? MMOs like that are incredibly time intensive.

probably didnt have much time for family?

Not from looking at what was said about him.  The thing is, I've seen it done.  I know someone that I work with that's incredibly devoted to his family, incredibly good at his job, and is incredibly involved in EVE.  A lot of it is knowing how to manage the time.  And I play MMOs quite a bit, and it doesn't get in the way of my family nor my job.  It's very possible.
7025
The article itself is an interesting read, and an interesting peek inside of the level of interaction and planning that goes on in MMOs and how a few people can have a great impact.
