Screenshot Captor / Re: Grab selected region
« Last post by Ath on June 16, 2017, 01:53 PM »
the screen resolution changes(kind of end up with a zoomed in effect),
A few questions to get mouser thinking in the right direction :P
  • Are your external monitors of (very) high resolution, and, using Windows 10 I presume, scaled differently (150-200%) then the laptop screen (100-125%)?
  • Was your primary monitor one of the external monitors when connected (and during boot, maybe, too)?

I'm thinking that SC still uses the previous main screen's resolution&scaling, though it should use the current screen's resolution&scaling.

Maybe we should sponsor mouser into the Windows 10 world and provide him with an UHD monitor so he can debug properly.

Did the Creators Update on one of the machines here, and now all of the Explorer shell text is missing. Desktop icons, menus, dialogs, all text is gone ... Other than that the machine appears to run fine. FireFox worked fine and had text.

SFC = no effect, DISM = no effect, and I tried clearing the font cache to no avail ... Any ideas?
Had the same (happened to quite some other upgraders too, afaics) issue when I update to CU in April. Found some procedures that should have solved it, and that even worked for a short while, until the next reboot... After trying to revert it wouldn't even boot up anymore >:( so I did a full re-install with W10CU on a spare hdd, works like a charm. All data was still on the (ssd) disk and available, so after installation moved all files over and then moved the entire image back to the (original) ssd.

Seems to be related to Comodo being installed for some, and uninstalling that has helped in some cases, but as I'm not a Comodo user, it couldn't help me

No reliable links here, but you could google for "windows 10 creators update text missing display broken" for more suggestions.

So... how can a 700 MB CD have a 1.1 GB partition on it?
If it's a compressed volume, backup or encrypted container. You'll have to ask the original source how the disc was created.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Where to Put Plugins
« Last post by Ath on June 08, 2017, 01:27 AM »
I wasnt able to work out how to make the plugin activate yet
Did you put the actual plugin application dll into that directory? A clean install of FARR already has that folder there, and contains a .dcupdate and .ico file, but not the real plugin. It's just a place-holder. You have to download any plugin separately and place the files from the zip-file in the corresponding directory :o

Activation/License/Language Help / Re: "Visit Website" Issue
« Last post by Ath on June 07, 2017, 03:11 PM »
You did paste your license key into the "Enter New License Key Information" screen, and then clicked the Accept button? That should store the license key properly. Sometimes it is helpful, when settings won't 'stick' to shut down Screenshot Captor by closing all its screens and selecting Exit from the systray menu. This should definitely store all settings. Then start SC again.

I thought mouser fixed this issue of not getting the settings stored on system shutdown a few releases ago, but I'm not entirely sure  Are you using the most recent version, v4.21.1 ?

I'm not into AutoHotKey. I am only into AutoIt.
But what is there that is stopping you of installing AHK? I'm not an AutoHotKey user myself, but more into AutoIt, but that won't stop me from using AHK tools when useful :-\

It would be very helpful, both for you and the developer, if you report anomalies in this area to the developer(s). Then at least there's a chance it gets fixed.
And for me as a developer, a reason to not add 'skinning', and similar graphics/ui tricks, to applications I (co)develop, sticking to OS-standards ensures that the built-in features like high contrast and screenreaders work as expected.

Have you tried:
  • Turn on Windows XP Compatibility ?
  • Run as Administrator ?

And on special request, replacing <span class="i">one</span> by <i>one</i> you could use this replacement:
Find What: (?m)<span\sclass="i">(.*?)<\/span>
Replace With: <i>\1</i>
The disadvantage here is that after this replacement you won't be able to use css for changing all your global emphasized text into emphasized (or a whole different font or whatever) by a single css modification anymore. But I'm not sure that would be useful for an ebook ;)

General Software Discussion / Re: Royalty Software
« Last post by Ath on June 03, 2017, 11:18 AM »
What is special about royalty checks that you can't print them using regular check-printing software (I live in a country where we don't use checks for money-transfer any more), there must be numerous free check-printing applications available on-line.

Well,

I tried (with) a trial version of Sublime Text (v3 build 3126 x64), and I cooked this regex to remove the extra span tags:
Find What: (?m)<span\sclass="no-break">(.*?)<\/span>(.*?)
Replace With: \1\2
Be sure to enable the Regular expression option (Alt-R from the Replace screen). Switching on Wrap is required too.

Coding Snacks / Re: Batch file,Use a special command to stop the application?

And you are asking here, instead of at the Core Technologies support-site, because....?
Seems like a decent feature request to me.

I've had AV when running, and nothing else is running, even when set to a lower priority, be unresponsive.
That is most likely explained by the security level of the level-0 drivers most AV software is using for their scan... I've (also) never been successful in lowering the priority of the AV I was using at any time.
For regular applications ProcessTamer should be adequate.
717
I'm more interested in arguments for limiting a process in using the available cpu power. Do you buy a car with hundreds of hp, just to keep the hand-brake on all the time to get a slower acceleration?
What process-tamer does is the most sensible: give a cpu-hog a lower priority so other processes get a fair chance of getting their work done. And while others demand no cpu-cycles, keep the hand-brake off and let it run free.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot captor V4.21.1 Keyboard Keys not working
« Last post by Ath on May 24, 2017, 12:48 AM »
did not work for me since the onedrive box that I am told to uncheck is and was unchecked.
Have you tried turning it on and then back off again? That sometimes helps to turn things really off.

All my attempts with kmplayer don't go well for me.
Sounds like a specific kmplayer issue, it might give similar issues when using other tools for doing the same, though I don't use (or have) kmplayer here.

Also don't work for me with Pspad ( a notepad alternative) .
This is an issue with PSPad, confirmed, should be reported in the PSPad forum, IMHO.

Shift-right-click the taskbar icon, select Move, use cursor keys to move the window in the direction of a turned-on monitor. When Move is greyed out in the menu then the window is maximized, use Restore first to un-maximize it, and repeat the Shift-right-click/Move as described.
722
And there's CintaNotes, mentioned here before, that moved it's SimpleNote synchronization into the free version some time ago. Notes can be viewed/edited on Android (and other platforms) using a SimpleNote app. Very convenient. (disclaimer: I'm a happy CintaNotes user, received a free Lifetime-PRO license in a giveaway here on DCF).
The CintaNotes author is a regular visitor of this forum.

Perhaps a better thing would be to give the money to coding snack coders?
That would probably work better if the number of snack requests was higher than it is currently. And the size of a snack usually involves only a couple of hours work (and sometimes even less). And most snacks are handled by 2 or 3 persons... But it would be an extra motivator for picking up a request, I guess. Now to find a way of increasing the volume

It seems you end up with the same dilemma's as the last time you brought up this subject :tellme:
724
Well, had I known this 5 months ago... I'm now entering the final rounds of a (volunteer) coding project, that has to be completed before July 1st, that could have met the criteria for this 'challenge' ;)
Though we didn't discuss ownership of the code (should be mine as I wrote it all, in my own time) and the question of open-sourcing it, or not. That question is planned for the next meeting. But it's not one of the criteria here, AFAICS.
Maybe next project 8)
