Maybe they want you to (sign up and) use their app? http://news.iheart.c...iheartradio-app-240/

I have W8.0.  It comes with the app.  There is no way to just enter the call letters.  You have to endlessly page through the pictures of the stations until you can click the one you want.  High school kids retire before they get all their stations added.  I see more and more of this on radio station sites.  It used to be you clicked "listen live" and then it may give a choice of player and that was that.  Now there is nothing to click on at many of these radio sites main pages.  It's like they designed it to see how long it takes you to figure out it is unusable. To play put the square peg in the round hole, but there is no hole.

Have you tried TuneInRadio? http://tunein.com/

I've been using it for years and can always quickly find the stations I want

Is this like, via e-mail, or snail mail? I'd be quite interested in doing this!

Or the $2000 laptop you stored away,

What?!?  You put your laptop into checked luggage?  Even without this, that's a recipe for disaster...

I'd say that is far more serious than say....having your e-mail account broken into......

From some of the stuff I've seen happen from having e-mail accounts broken into- and the length of time the damage lingers, I'd rather someone break into my luggage personally.

You ever lost something of your wife's....that shit goes on for far longer than anything that could happen with my e-mails  ;D

I'm thinking of that guy's account that got hacked... and he lost everything on every laptop and device.  :tellme: :o

Yeah... But remembering that you lost all your stuff...has no where near the sting of having the wife reminding you - constantly and forever - that you lost her stuff..

Point goes to Stephen66515

 :D

That summed up exactly what I was trying (and seemingly failing) to say haha!

Always wondered how long it would take before those stupid locks were compromised.

I just use coloured cable ties, (different flight, different colour), doesn't stop anyone looking in the luggage, (just like normal locks), but at least it does indicate when someone has looked in the luggage since they're not likely to have whatever colour I happen to have chosen at that time to reseal them with.

Put those dye packs that banks use in your luggage ;)

The big difference here is that if the bad guys can get into my suitcase, they might steal my socks.

The potential damage to us if and when somebody backdoors our secret data is far more serious.

Or the $2000 laptop you stored away, your watch and wife's jewelry, that treasured picture you take everywhere...then replace with as much Heroin as they can possibly fit...

I'd say that is far more serious than say....having your e-mail account broken into......;)

Most forums have theme switcher mods (drop down somewhere in the footer) too. I believe smf does but probably not actively maintained if I had to guess.

SMF has always had user-selectable themes but mouser has always disabled them - Having more than 1 theme available for people, means making more than 1 theme, then dealing with half a million requests for changes on both... ;D

Further to this, Mousers software pages have been a headache to do, mainly because of the volume of information that has to be brought over...luckily mouser came up with an awesome way for us to manage certain aspects of these pages (Download Links, and such) that unifies every single software page, and makes things a whole lot easier to locate!

Is it a Directory System? ;)

Seriously though, thanks for the update, great work!

Is it a Directory System? ;)
Haha no, it isn't a directory system (though not through lack of my bugging mouser to get one, or a repository system!  ;D)

Seriously though, thanks for the update, great work!
Not a problem at all :) The updates are just rough right now as my brain is frazzled with the sheer volume of links that need to be dealt with (well over 500 in total) - Though a lot of them are not physically being moved to the CMS, we still needed a way to manage them so nothing breaks, and it has taken a little bit of time to come to an agreement on how best to do that.

Things are moving at a much smoother pace now though and we are looking good to be finished "soon"(ish)  8)

Hey guys,

Just thought I would post a quick update on what is happening behind the scenes!

So...firstly, there are several new features for each page on the CMS, these will be revealed/discussed i another thread when I get a free moment - Without going into details now, they keep the pages up-to-date and more interesting to visit, especially if you have interests in specific parts of the website </vagueness>  :D

On from this, I have just imported a nightmarish amount of links into the Archive - These include (but are not limited to):

• Old Contests that everybody has forgotten about
• Reviews from years ago that pretty much hold no relevance anymore
• Pages I doubt anybody even knew existed in the first place

These equate to around 200 links from the current website (I highly doubt any of them are referenced anywhere on the entire website, but I don't really want to search every single one to see if they are linked....so they are coming with us in "link form" just so nothing breaks)

----

Further to this, Mousers software pages have been a headache to do, mainly because of the volume of information that has to be brought over...luckily mouser came up with an awesome way for us to manage certain aspects of these pages (Download Links, and such) that unifies every single software page, and makes things a whole lot easier to locate!

----

Discussions are in the works for other features on the new website when it is released, and I know a lot of you will be really happy to see quite a few of these bigger changes when they are implemented.

On top of all this, I would like to emphasise mousers note on having new content ready for the new website when we release.

To give you an idea of what that content could be, take a look at the list below (these are simply examples and we will accept almost anything!):

• Regularly updated blogs
  -  This will be a regular blog page for YOU on the website.  You will be responsible for updating this blog via DC at your own leisure
• Columns
  -  These could be columns about pretty much anything you feel like writing about
• Full Reviews/Mini-Reviews
  -  Same process as right now, just a better process for highlighting these posts.

Every bit of new content we can muster would be fantastic, and they will all be added prior to official release but AFTER we have finished everything else.
711
can you just confirm to me that we are talking about the same list? maybe a screenshot,

//There is an image here...but the forum has cocked up with the quoting problem again so I removed it.

I'd expect 1 name (and not my own) to "stand out from the crowd", here :-[
(Screenshot taken from Pale Moon)

Buddy?  What's a buddy?!?

In your profile you can create a list of buddies (doesn't have to be reciprocal).
Buddy list is just an easier way to see when someone on your buddy list is online currently.

Erm...We have NOTHING to do with that website...how could we possibly control what they install on their own forum?  That's like you asking us to publish a story on bbc.com...it doesn't belong to us...I am assuming this is what you mean...but unless you decide to speak to me in something resembling English, I am afraid I don't have the time, nor patience to try figure it out anymore.

Stephen.  Let it go.  Seriously.  I've been down this path, and it's frustrating and leads nowhere.

I have haha, Completely gave up when I realized I was fighting a losing argument whatever that was lol  ;D

For the unread topics list I haved switch from using 2 icons in front of each message to using Jibz icon to indicate when you have participated in a topic; it is also now used on the main message list for a board.
Keep in mind the new indicator that shows you have participated in a topic is only shown when the icon for the topic is standard.  Special topic icons will now show such an indicator.

Here's how it looks now:
[ Invalid Attachment ]

I think that's ok since we rarely use topic icons other than the default one (in fact normal users are not given the choice of changing the topic icon when they post) -- that's to keep down the visual noise.  I sometimes use a special icon on newsletters and other official announcements.

If we really wanted to show an indicator regardless of the topic icon, we could probably do it by changing to some css that makes use of a small overlay.  Jibz maybe you can make me a tiny transparent image with just your overlay? Or we could use a different overlay image if people think they can improve on the one jibz chose.

To expand on that bug...I tried quoting and attaching a file...just to see what happened (I will edit if it did something odd)

//EDIT - Heh, so yeah...it takes YOUR attachment, and just plops it in there...that could be problematic if you are quoting a post with an image, and replying with an image :P

Although I will answer some points here, could I ask that further discussion about the CMS (specifically the CMS) be moved here: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=41547.0 - That way we don't have fragmented information and I only have to keep an eye on one thread to answer things  ;D

I didn't mean to say mouser or Stephen66515 or anyone else working on the technical aspects of the CMS need to come up with new content. I was saying let DC members give DC the gift of new content to celebrate its renewal. I was just suggesting though, not trying to convince anyone. So never mind...

From my perspective, the more content the DC community can create for us, the better! - If anybody does happen to want to take on the challenge of writing a new review, article, short story or whatever, then PLEASE DO IT!.

Those who DO write content, will have their content placed on the new sections dedicated to this exact thing! - Seriously...adding more pages during this stage is not an issue whatsoever and like phitsc says, it would be a perfect way to celebrate the upgrade!

I have no problem if you guys do A and B first. What I'm suggesting is that we go live with plenty of C.

Unless someone volunteers to make that content, and to coordinate the making of content, that's a massive effort on top of a massive effort that's already taxing mouser.  So I'd say first things first.  Get the CMS up, get some testing like with the forums, and get it to a stable experience that represents the site.  Then the content can come organically as the tools give more people the ability to create the content.

There is no real coordination required in the creation of this content as it could just be a review, a mini-review, a short-story...well....anything really, it honestly doesn't matter...we have the means to now accommodate pretty much anything a content writer wants to submit!

"Then the content can come organically as the tools give more people the ability to create the content." <---- For this, I have to admit the content creation part of things MAY be an issue, BUT if people want to write them before the CMS is live, then they can do so by either doing it in plain-text, or if they have skills as a website designer, they can always just ask for our CSS classes, or even have us style it for them AFTER we get the rest of the stuff that needs doing; done.

"that's a massive effort on top of a massive effort that's already taxing mouser." - A huge amount of that pressure has been lifted off mouser so he can stop being close to a complete and utter nervous breakdown (see here) :)
721
WOOOOO-HOOOOO! It's been a long time coming. Congratulations mouser on getting started on this! And thanks Stephen for helping him out. He needs (and deserves) it. :)

My only feedback so far is that the look of the top menu is really quite... Windows 95. Any plans to change that? I know it's a somewhat minor quibble. :D

Edit: I realized I had another question - what are you using for the software listings!? I really hope you looked closely at using a directory listing type plugin.

- Oshyan

1. Not a problem at all! - Have to keep this short so I don't lose my steam moving all the pages xD!

2. Well...the menu I must admit, is not my creation, nor am I overly keen on it and am certainly open to changing the design! Will have to get mouser to see what he can create :D

3. Software listings are simply article pages - It was discussed many times for us to use some listings plugin, or repository software, but in the end a suitable one could never be found, and we are quickly learning that having them as articles on the website makes them just as easy to keep updated as any plugin/repository would be.

Currently, the process is something along the lines of - I bring pages over, realize we don't have a CSS class for a certain bit of the site, so mouser will then create that, then I drop that class into the code to make the page pretty with mousers CSS classes!  We have started getting a bit more 'fluid' with how we are working, and with each page we move over, the quicker we are getting.  I think the main killer points right at the beginning were trying to get the actual DESIGN of the site done to a point that it looks...remotely like DC and still looks "new", and now that's done, it is certainly a much easier thing to manage!

Nothing in the design is really set in stone right now and any images that are shared could be subject to change at any time (based on people's suggestions/ideas etc). - One thing I will point out...is those people who had access to the Beta Forum, also had access to see the CMS ;)
722
Here's a little sneak preview of the top of the site with the navbar, logo, and improved site search (With smart-auto-completion to make searching far easier!)

Top menu with smart search.png

But yeah, if anybody wants updates, wants to offer up a feature suggestion - or other questions about the CMS, feel free to ask and one of us will update as often as we can!

VERY good point! - Don't be scared if we don't answer this thread for a little while...we are probably just busy as hell adding countless amounts of data to the new site lol  8)

Yes, except for the fact that it's taking all of our concentration to focus on migrating the current pages, so please refrain from deep discussions about big new features and content until we get the old content migrated.
723
Working hard and having fewer nervous breakdowns now ;)

Ok, was searching this thread because I wanted to make a suggestion: how about we come up with some original content to celebrate the switch to a proper cms. Was thinking about stuff like reviews, short stories, new SW, member discounts, whatever.

Do you mean this suggestion Phil?  We are working like mad on the CMS at the moment and I fear mousers brain is close to exploding with everything that needs doing so he may have simply overlooked it :)

Yep, that's the one

Thought it would be a shame to have an all shiny and new CMS but only old stuff to put into it  ;)

One of the aims behind the move to CMS is to make it easier for content writers to be able to upload their articles to the site and have them features in a nice way (Which will also be auto-posted to all the DC Social Network accounts to raise viewership!) so - from my perspective on this...please write as many new articles as you can possibly write!  The more, the merrier! - There are already sections set up in order to accommodate these articles and there will be a help file available for formatting options!

At the moment, work is slowly progressing on the CMS as we bring over all of the current static pages (mousers software pages and such things) - Now that the design stage has been (almost) finalized, that content will be far faster for us to add and the CMS should be here in no time at all!
725
