Any new people with invites just waiting to be handed over to the less fortunate (me :( ) ?

I just got in a couple days ago and they haven't given me any invites to give out yet.

i suppose my advice would depend on how many pictures she has.. i mean as soon as you start getting into large numbers, aren't you better off with a proper photo gallery thing, like Gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com/).

That's also a really good idea! Thanks for pointing Gallery out.

Thanks for the suggestions Curt, but yeah, it is a business.

Hmm, you could try having different posts as galleries. That way you can password protect the post and conversely the gallery/group.

That's not a bad idea for a sort of last resort if there are no plugins or other better (read: easier to implement) ideas.

Anyone else have other suggestions?

Living Room / Re: Anybody else playing with Wave?
« Last post by Deozaan on October 16, 2009, 03:53 AM »
Hey that's strange. In the DC Waveathon it doesn't show me your avatar, and from that screenshot, it doesn't show you mine either.

But I can see rno2's and CWuestefeld's, just like you can. I can also see app's and chingo's (btw who is chingo?).

Initially it seems as though Google Wave hides your e-mail address from people. After all, you can add me by using deozaan {at} googlewave.com which if you send an e-mail to, doesn't actually reach me (or show up as a wave). But I've found all of the people I added to my Google Wave Contacts in my Gmail contacts, with their real e-mail address in place of the placeholder googlewave address. Either that or I already had most of you fine folks in my Gmail contacts before this. Though I'm fairly certain that JavaJones wasn't in my Gmail Contacts before and he is now.

Because Google Wave isn't into public beta yet.

Is that what that's for?  I have an account... and still haven't been able to figure out much use for it...

Did you watch the 80 minute video on it? Or even the 8 minute video on it?

It's basically e-mail, IM, IRC, a wiki, and Microsoft OneNote all rolled into one, with even more features than what I've mentioned. Or at least that's what it's going to be as it progresses. I agree with you that without other people I know in there with me, it seems pretty barren.

I added my email address on their 'request an invitation' page a while ago, don't know if I should wait for it or ask an invite from someone :D

I added myself to their list a few months ago and finally only got one after rno2 sent an invite. In my case, until I was in the Wave, I was doing everything I could think of to get in there as soon as possible. But I suppose it all depends on how eager you are to try it out.

I gotta tell you that there doesn't seem to be a lot to do in there right now without other people I know playing around in there with me. That's why I'm hoping to get more of us DCers in and playing around in a big DC Wave-athon. :)

I just tried the link and the invite still works! They said it was for only the first 100 so I thought I had missed out, but it worked for me.

Seems like it would be better if the installer let you pick which applications to select, instead of having to select the applications from their website and then download the installer for just those programs.

You're right, Josh. It does mention Starcraft explicitly. My mistake.

Now that we've got a few more DC members on the Wave, let's share information so we can have a DC Wave-athon!

I don't know for sure, but I think you can find me using deozaan @t googlewave d0t come but if that doesn't work then replace googlewave with gmail and that should be fine.

This morning I woke up and then laid around in bed a little longer and fell back asleep. I then began to dream that I had received my Google Wave invite and that I was playing around with it.

Then I woke up and checked my e-mail and voila! Google Wave invite! Thanks rno2!

Deozaan: I see that you posted in the other thread that Wave is similar to onenote. Did you already receive the invitation and signed up?

No I hadn't. I was just basing that opinion on the video for Google Wave.
6937
I'd also like to just say that just because the guy played Starcraft doesn't mean anything. I can't read Swedish, so I don't know what the original article says, but the article Josh links to doesn't say anything about the man playing Starcraft when his internet connection was lost. It just says he's a Starcraft player who got angry when his internet connection went out.

Might as well have the headline be: 18 year internet user stabs 15 year old after internet connection goes out.

Oh wait, that's not as scary/sensational, so that won't work... ::)
6938
Just an aside: Wave looks very similar to Microsoft OneNote, the obvious difference being that one is a desktop application and the other is a web application.
6939
This was in Korea, right? They're crazy about Starcraft.

EDIT: Nope, I guess it was in Sweden...

General Software Discussion / Needed: WordPress Plugin(s) for Photographers
« Last post by Deozaan on October 14, 2009, 10:43 PM »
Hi all!

My sister asked me to help her set up a simple website for her photography business. Her needs seemed simple enough to me that I thought I could do it with a WordPress site. However, there are a few specific needs she has that I'm having a hard time finding plugins for.

Basically what I need is some sort of Photo Album plugin that allows for multiple albums and the option to password protect certain albums. The reason for this is that she wants to be able to have her customers view proofs of the photos and she wants to password protect photos, especially those of children.

Also acceptable would be a (cheap or free) webservice (Flickr?) that already does something like this and then a WordPress plugin that integrates that webservice into WordPress.

Any tips and help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: World of Goo: Name Your Price!
« Last post by Deozaan on October 14, 2009, 03:58 PM »
I just bought it and read this in the download e-mail:

We are trying an experiment: World of Goo has absolutely no copy protection or DRM at all, since we want to give you (and everyone) the best experience we can. Thanks for not distributing this, and helping us make this possible!

Sounds really awesome of them to not only have a Name Your Own Price experiment, but also to make the downloads DRM free as well.

Great job, 2DBoy!

World of Goo is celebrating it's first birthday by allowing you to buy the game at any price you choose.

World of Goo is a great game that has been mentioned at this site before: Click here to see the previous thread about World of Goo.

I'd have to vote for trackball as well. But not the kind you control with your index/middle fingers. The thumb trackballs. Then you can just place it somewhere (even your thigh will work) and it doesn't have to move anywhere. Anywhere it won't fall is a good place for it.

DcUpdater / Re: Drag and Drop not working in Windows 7
« Last post by Deozaan on October 10, 2009, 11:14 AM »
Quick thought: does updater run with admin privs? that might be reason enough to disallow (some forms of) interproc communication, like window messages. I would expect it to fail on vista too, then, though.

I'm not sure. I did notice a similar bug report for Skwire's Trout audio player though. It seems Vista/Win7 related.

DcUpdater / Drag and Drop not working in Windows 7
« Last post by Deozaan on October 10, 2009, 12:01 AM »
I just installed DcUpdater on Windows 7 and in the options where I set the directories of where to look for update files it says "Drag and Drop enabled"

But I can't drag and drop from Windows Explorer. The mouse icon turns into a circle with a slash through it.
