I see you say: If you make monetary donations to charity, please consider voting. - I can remove my vote if you only want preople who make monetary donations

But LastPass was supposed to be the last password I'd need to remember.

Ever.

Says so right on their website and Twitter profile.

I followed the suggestions in the link quoted below - & changed my email password yesterday to an easy to remember phrase (three words, a little quirky so it's not too easy).

Nobody dismisses '"brute force" cracking techniques as being impractical any more. Today's multicore CPUs make it an extremely workable crack for most passwords people are able to commit to memory.

Check this out concerning brute force cracking of passwords. Was posted just recently somewhere.

I was trying to change my LastPass password yesterday and couldnt - I think it was overloaded...
[edit] Still overloaded :-\ - Sorry! We are a bit overloaded right now. Try again in a few hours. [/edit]

I'm looking for an anti-virus that allows easy reporting of false positives.

I've been using MSE anti-virus for a couple of months now. It's been very quiet until recently when it decided that the source code of GridMove was a Trojan or something.
Those details aren't important - what is important is that I was not given a choice to easily remove this from the "threatened with quarantine" list - I added it to the exclusion list but I had to wait till I rebooted before the tray icon went from red, for danger, to green. I dont see any way of reporting false-positives - maybe the "spynet" option would work but the idea is not mentioned there either...

My previous AV was Avira, the paid version - this has a very good reputation - at the expense of being a bit enthusiastic, i.e. more false-positives. This would be fine if they made it easier to report them, but they dont. I started four threads in their forum on the subject and there was zero interest in changing how things worked - they were happy to take the details per forum post or per PM - but to me that's not the way to go (there were other routes that also worked in a roundabout manner). I want ease of use (not just for me naturally - I want to be able to take advantage of everybody else's easily reported false-positive reports)

There were a few threads a while back about giving the AV industry a hard time - if there were an AV with this "feature", and we would support it for that reason, we would be sending a message to the rest of the posse... or at the least we might have a decent AV :)

I would user it and love it!

that must be why they're called German Sheperd in 'European English' - they're also called Alsatian

I was not forced to change my master password, but I did. It proceeded to re-encrypt everything.
now though, when I log in, I'm getting this message:
-------------------------------------
An error has been encountered while loading your site
Please relogin
------------------------------------
it is recognising the new password - it actually briefly showed my page on one attempt, but with most text not showing & with some weird unicode characters. I dont even know if I have a backup of this stuff :-\ (but I did just recently import most of it from Roboform).
So I suspect a problem with their re-encryption...

^ this is sorted now -
NOTE: they no longer store your password, which I guess is safer - but I dont know if it now works as renegade describes:

Instead of storing salt and the like, the database had strong encryption and was only ever decrypted on the client. (IIRC) If you ever forgot your password, you were screwed though because YOU were the only one that ever had access to it. As such, warnings were BIG and LOUD. :)

Deadlines?
-fenixproductions (May 04, 2011, 02:36 PM)

Probably. Some idiot project manager would rather have something that doesn't work now, than have something that works next week. Sigh...

It just seems like a lot of site use some form designer and forget that data needs to be verified.

I sooo do not feel sorry for the school... :D :P

I'd certainly like to hear from someone who has used the built-in imaging feature in 7.

+1
6888
The latest beta works nicer with text in Freehand:
Current clip keeps foramtting etc as expected
Older clips paste as text.

Thanks!!
6889
I'm presuming that current behaviour is of no use to you either...
-tomos

It's not ideal, no. It is light years ahead of having no image clips, however.
-cranioscopical (May 04, 2011, 03:48 PM)

absolutely! I wasnt clear though - I meant current behaviour with regard to text from graphics programmes

The combination of arm-twisting 'clients' and mouser's generous indulgence could well produce something spectacular.
-cranioscopical (May 04, 2011, 03:48 PM)
 :D
6890
Just to clarify (I've been confusing even myself above):

Ideally CHS would remember associated data and try to paste a body of text with formatting etc.
Ideally if it cant do this, it would paste as plain text.

Should there more to the ideal options there?

I dont know if this is feasible, and/or how this would relate to text formatting in other (rich-text type) programmes
6891
if I copy text I can paste it directly, but if I then copy something else, the previous clip is useless - it's thumbnail image gets pasted.
-Tomos
Yeah, some of the more complex programs need a slew of associated stuff in order to maintain the purpose of whatever clip is being handled.
-cranioscopical (May 04, 2011, 09:13 AM)

as I said to mouser, I would like to see the "slew of associated stuff" handled by CH&S, but in the case of text, I would very much prefer it were handled simply as text and the associated stuff dumped rather than the way it's currently dealt with...

I could live with that but might there be the possibility of choosing to toggle how it's handled?
-cranioscopical (May 04, 2011, 09:35 AM)

Chris, do you mean something like:
Toggle (in options?):
just text / or text with associated data. **

Or maybe ideally it would remember text + formatting etc, but if pasted in another application that cant read associated data, then the text would be favoured?

** [edit] I'm presuming that current behaviour is of no use to you either...

I see it's on offer Bundlelytic, Nitro PDF Professional, Sticky Password PRO, Zoner Photo Studio

What's the verdict in general on the programme ?
(I'm looking for something to organise my photos)

^ that's the trick

Well, I took the plunge as well.

I bought it from the german site HAAGE&PARTNER (site & shop - both in english) with the added bonus of getting free SFTP & USB **
BE WARNED, my initial install was german, but then I used the german language shop. I dont know if the install from the english language shop is in english - but i suspect not. You then have to find the option to change language to English.

** I got these 'free' with the upgrade (but they dont know how long this will be the case), for a couple of euros more than the gpsoft price (i paid €40 - there's 19% vat also included in that price - I dont know if that's charged for all countries).
NOTE free SFTB & USB is only advertised for when buying 10 new - I asked about it for the upgrade, they said it's currently the case but they dont know for how long.

I just discovered that my folder aliases all now resolve to C:\Documents and Settings\[path]
Thus, for example, if I enter Art as a lister path, and Art is aliased as G:\Art
DOpus 10 thinks that it means
C:\Documents and Settings\Godfrey\Art
not G:\Art

These were working fine in DOpus 9  :(

Could someone be kind enough to check that out before I contact GP Software?
-cranioscopical (May 04, 2011, 02:57 AM)

I havent used aliases, but just made one - if I enter is as a lister path it tries to go to:
C:\Program Files\Directory Opus[\alias name here]
6896
... (CH+S doesn't 'see' text copied from Illustrator btw) ...
-cranioscopical (April 27, 2011, 01:14 PM)

this is a big problem for me - even if I'm editing text and copy it, it gets saved/displayed as a thumbnail
I mean, if I copy text I can paste it directly, but if I then copy something else, the previous clip is useless - it's thumbnail image gets pasted.
6897
^ I forgot to say:
the presets weren't available. There was some option there but unfortunately I didnt keep a record of it.

After two restarts the whole thing seems to be okay now...
6898
upgraded to latest beta from an older one (last week sometime)

First got this message:
---------------------------
Clipboard Help+Spell
---------------------------
TableClips: Field 'Index' not found.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Then when I open the main window I get this and cant find anything...

CHS002.png

Tree & Grid tabs are just grey. My favourites still exist when I paste but I dont see any quick paste clips - i.e. clips I just copied

I do like the "old-fashioned" way where you pay a set upgrade price from the previous version. So your upgrade price is valid till another new full-version is released.

But the times they are a changing - at least they're not charging per year.

I personally find this "limited time" thing offensive - instead of making me want to buy it before the time runs out it makes me want to move to another file manager.
Ever been to a supermarket? Or do your servants do that for you?
-michaelkenward (May 03, 2011, 04:31 PM)

no, I'm poor actually (honestly!)

[edit] silly thing to say really. Compared with really poor, I just have to pick and choose what I buy. as for the quote... :p [/edit]
