If anyone thinks up a more unique idea for a android app that uses this same basic user interface approach (user-created items organized into tabs by tags), please let me know.
Some possibilities include: Android version of Progress Bars of Life and Android version of Point Motivator.

Ok so let's see what light we can shed here:

When you paste an image onto another image in screenshot captor, you are creating a "bitmap object" that floats on top of the image, which can be resized, moved, deleted, etc.

The fact that the pasted image is an object explains the odd behavior you are seeing regarding cropping, etc.

Now the blurriness -- that may be my code antialiasing the bitmap object when it shouldn't -- i will look into that.

How to avoid the oddities you are encountering?  After pasting the bitmap, and getting it exactly how you want it, go to the Objects menu and choose to "flatten all objects to background".  This will merge in the pasted image into the main one.  All future cropping will proceed as you expect -- though note that you will no longer be able to move/scale the pasted object.

Let me know if it still seems blurry after you merge to the background.

New version is up on dc server and uploaded as a BETA on google play store (people who signed up as beta access should be able to see it).
It has a fix from dc member ewemoa to solve the problem where the (#) part of tabs was sometimes being cut off.
Also a few more bugfixes -- hopefully solving a crash that could happen.
Plus new options for controlling what is displayed (date, duration, or both), as well as ability for advanced users to customize the date format, etc.

have you tried the widget option to use a background?
you can't customize the color yet -- it's black.  but it should make text visible clearly regardless of your home screen.

Updated; you can now specify both a reminder and an overdue setting for an item.

yes, it should fix that problem.
im just saying a secondary problem is that people have suggested i should make the icon more mobile-looking, and that might be best to do that instead.

  what i meant is make the image design itself more squarish, rather than an image which is technically square but has large transparent blank area on one side.

@mouser: It appears to me that you just need to add extra (transparent) padding to the top and bottom of the image to make it as tall as it is wide.

i could do that.. but it's been suggested to me that the "icon" is not very mobile-like, and that i should have a more square shaped icon..

all my apps do. if you have received a license for donating, it will be seen by all apps, and be valid for all of time, as soon as you put it into one.

Hi MikleB!

Ok I can see the confusion!! Somehow i didn't put the About menu in the tray menu or on the DOCKED menu!
I'll release an update soon that fixes that.

For now though, the trick is to UNDOCK the program from the side of your screen (click and drag it off side of screen). Only then will you see a help menu with an About menu item that will let you put in license key.

I can't believe no one has pointed this out to me until now!

Regarding my previous post about Reminders vs Overdue..

First an example of how it *CURRENTLY* works:
Let's say you set an event like "change smoke detectors" and set a reminder/due value of 6 months.
Then after 6 months elapses since you performed the task, you will see an alarm/notification that the event is OVERDUE.
After a month the onscreen display will say something like "1 month overdue".

Im thinking of changing this behavior.. I think probably a more coherent view of this app is not for setting hard deadlines and due dates, but for keeping track of when the last time you did something was and how long it's been.
To that end, i'm thinking that a reminder should maybe not have any conception of a "due date".
So if you set a reminder at 6 months, then after 6 months you would get a notification/alarm that said something like "Change smoke detectors was last done 6 months ago".
And if you checked back a month after that it would say "7 months ago".

So, no notion of a DUE date, just always telling you how long it's been, and the ability to ask for a reminder after a certain amount of time.

While it would be possible to let each task have both a reminder period and a separate DUE date, i think this would probably be overkill..

Thoughts?

Actually there may be a better solution -- I can add people to the official google play store alpha/beta testing area for WhenLast, and then upload new versions there.
Message me with the email you use for google play store (not your password just your email) and i will add you to the testing list.

I haven't updated the play store version in a while because i've been coding like a mad man on this and with so many frequent major updates, i'm hesitant to push a new version to the store until i settle down a bit.
However, I am rapidly approaching that point..  After a bit more testing I will push a major new version to the store -- maybe at the end of this weekend.

That doesn't exactly answer your question, but explains why you are seeing what you see.  I'd love to have more tester reports if that helps to answer your question.

Can you elaborate a little regarding when/where it slows down? Any clues might help.  One thing we know can cause the CHS slowdown is a bad behaving antivirus which insists on rescanning database file everytime a change is made.  Try excluding the CHS database directory (will be under Documents\DonationCoder\ClipboardHelpAndSpell\Database or something similar).
