tinyvillager; Though I have tried to use it many times (because I installed so many different programs and did not understand how to do a proper backup) System Restore has never worked for me; not even once! Today I use TotalUninstall.

If it is important to you to clean your registry   I will dare to recommend the FREE / $15 Eusing Registry Cleaner because it has proven itself to be gentle and safe to run - so safe that "we" are using it in DC member wreckedcarzz's CompuTech EasyInstall:

OK, here it is; EasyInstall.exe
-wreckedcarzz (July 27, 2007, 11:10 AM)

Edit: it is of course also the one I use myself

 :) thanks!

And while we are at it: should 'we' look for a another reg cleaner? I am not too sure Eusing will think it is a mighty good idea to auto-close their nag screen:

- Edit: - or maybe add option to "Navigate to reg cleaner of your choice"

When these large (GB) memory blocks first arrived the market, one of the complaints was that they might be fast when handling big video games, but they were too slow when it came to small, simple jobs like copy&paste a word in the text editor! Is this problem all gone? I am asking because I never play these big games, but I need more RAM, and I am having doubts about what size to ask for, please.

With nothing to do (on a vacation !!!!) you might have a look at the GUI. To my middleaged eyes and closed mind it is too compact; too narrow - I would like to have more S P A C E , if you know what I mean, please!

... when ALShow doesn't have the right codec, it can pop up a window to tell you what you need and help you download and install the codec.

Half a year ago I only used my RealPlayer 10.5 and I would have been taken by surprise that this 'codec-help' should be a feature worth mentioning, because RealPlayer will do even more than that: Just click okay, and the codec is auto- downloaded & installed, and the number played.

...  my CCCP + Zoom Player ...

I am a little surprised by your (not quoted) wording, because Combined Community Codec Pack to my understanding was written for and comes with the very Media Player Classic! I am of course confident that the Zoom Player PRO is very capable too, but I believe it will not play the world's most common video file type: .FLV  ???

Edit: yes it can be made to, according to this page

24 video codecs, none for audio formats - not even mp3.

Hey! What about that other very cool Korean media player, ALShow

ALShow is a video player only. Not even MP3.

...  I still have the integrated Media Player Classic / K-Lite Codec Pack as my default:
http://www.majorgeek...om/download4844.html

I would like to precise that the new Media Player Classic not is version 6.4.9.0-something, but Media Player Classic Homecinema 1.0.9.0  :o

Of course it still is version 6.4.9.0+ but it was modified by some "Casimir666" - only, for almost two weeks I have not yet noticed any difference... but they are there: http://tibrium.neuf.fr/

I forgot to mention that I still have 29 undetermined programs
- (some of the executing files have very strange names):

AppgetUndetermined.gif

- when pointed to the right exe   Karen Kenworthy's very old (updated Dec 13, 2001) Version Browser v3.1 determined 12 of these 29. The source code is free.  http://www.karenware...ertools/ptbrowse.asp

 - this Appget is on the way to become awesome!

And I really like the server response; nice motivating feature!

  • There still are some minor items:

The "Latest version" of SUPER is actually older than the one I already have
- the problem may be that SUPER versions are named by Year / Version / Month / Date / Year !!

Appget failed to determine the installed version of Windows Media Player 11 other than as version 11 ?! ("not yet checked")- and named latest version 9.00.36.36

And the suggested update of DivX Web Player to latest version 1.4.0 is in fact still Beta 1
- you will need to have a policy on Beta versions.

Josha, would you consider adding "Copy" (marked line / text) to the right-click context menu?

i'll stick with maxthon 1.6.1

- very small memory footprint (maybe is just a trick though... but I have never been able to find out how it does it).

- you told it to, at the setup: "Do you want Maxthon to often release memory?"
(or how it was phrased).

Ohh YES; Josha, this is so much better :-) Now I have 247 all updated programs instead of 155 programs that AppGet 0.64 did not know the latest version number of. Thanks a lot! Only problem now is for me to report the remaining 65 undertermined programs - it seems a little too tiresome to me that I have to right-click and report each program one by one..??

Brandon, is there any way you can / will have EasyControl executing this Shutdown procedure by (option) handling it to Process Explorer? My reason for asking is that I have tested a lot of "Shutdown Managers", and I am certain that when I have Process Explorer replacing Windows' Task Manager   then Process Explorer by far is the most trustworthy app-closing app  I have tried: there are almost never any programs not saving and closing properly.

One problem that I know of is that Process Explorer Shutdown uses the annoying "do you really want to shutdown?" box  that has to be clicked.

 :tellme:

Now, get to that beach!!!

My donations have been motivated a lot more by social aspects than by program's value. How much is it worth to me that f0dder wrote a program I have been using maybe once a week for a second or two? Its not easy to calculate, is it, but it cannot be much, I would say, if I was to hold the price up against the programs I am using for hours each day. And then again; he did take the time, didn't he; and time is the one thing we can never regain, so it should be valuable! NeverTheLess it really is more important to me that he and many others again and again have bothered to take the time to enlighten me on this or that, and even have done so in a friendly manner! "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" (or how the English version may go). That has motivated me to donate repeatedly!

maybe artkaye meant XMPlay

- most likely, lanux128; XMPlay is quite extraordinary. Only; I forgot about it, because I (too) am into media players only - in fact, I don't even use my expensive RealPlayer 10.5 Premium because it will not play my flash music files.
