Ouch! Thanks for the heads up about this. I am getting seriously ticked off at these kind of licensing practices - unfortunately, I've only become "savvy" to the differences in various licensing options recently and have purchased quite a few apps that feature these sorts of licenses in the past. I wasn't aware that XFilesDialog was one of them. I'll have to give FolderExpress a closer look. Of course, I have to stop and consider if I need to keep upgrading XFilesDialog - it's working perfectly for me right now at version 3.11 - I'll upgrade while my present license allows me to and when my license expires stick with the latest version that I have, rather than fork out more money for another product (Folder Express looks really good, by the way).

C'est la vie...

I'd forgotten about File Targets - I used it years ago and quite liked it. For me, though, XFileDialogs (http://www.xfilesdialog.com/info.html) is worth the money because it does EXACTLY what I want - resizes menus, remembers my layout preferences, enhances the options available to me (provides history, favourites, convenient links to all my drives - freeing up links in the Places Bar, it's highly configurable with regard to what it will and what it will not replace on a program/dialogue by program/dialogue basis - if needed - and so on). DocCommaner looks good, too, though I haven't installed and tried it yet. I'm happy with the set-up that I have and am loathe at this point to mess with it (I've just come off a disappointing experience playing around with apps that allow users to customise the Places Bar in Office 2000. Some were very good (and freeware!) e.g. ioIsland's Places Bar Tweaker http://www.ioisland.com/downloads/, but I've gone back to TweakUI XP. It provides the same functionality without adding further apps to my setup.

No doubt there are viable alternatives to XFileDialogs that would do exactly what I want but I'm content...

Just my thoughts!

In the same spirit as the context menu option of creating an alias from the results list, drag and drop from the results list onto the alias tab would also be useful (although possibly redundant if the context menu feature were to be implemented?).

This forum/site is fantastic. Through posting a (clumsy) comment about Clipmate here I've already benefited from Scott's superior knowledge of the app. This is a lame thing to admit, especially after two years of using Clipmate, but I didn't know you could hit ctrl-shift-q and select from a navigable menu the clip that you want to insert. I've been content to double click the system tray icon and select from the Clipmate Explorer. What a dolt!

Thanks, too, to Nudone for prompting me to revisit ClipCache after a long absence. Looks like a very good alternative.

Just wanted to add that the main feature that I miss in F&R is a right context menu option to save a result as an alias. I realise that this is in the "cards" but wanted to add a word in support of it!

Thanks for a very useful app. I'm REALLY impressed with its speed and small footprint.

Super Happy still appears when using the Main application when you hover the cursor over the system try icon and in the text of the entry (is that right) in the taskbar when the app window is open.

Just thought I'd report this, though it doesn't bother me in the slightest!

I'd just like to add a word about ClipMate ($29.95 US - http://www.thornsoft.com/download.htm). There are a number of alternative shareware and freeware Clipboard extenders but this is the best that I have tried.

You can do all sorts of things with it, including having it organise your "clips" into categories. You can save passwords and serial numbers and so on in "safe" folders (encrypted) and you can edit your clips before pasting. The editing feature includes a "cleanup" feature that will, for example, automatically remove the chevrons (>) from quoted e-mail text, change the case of text, remove linebreaks, etc. Of course, this may be overkill...

One complaint is that its unicode support is limited.

All in all, after using a clipboard extender for 18 months, I'd find it hard to function without one now.

Thanks for the positive responses. I feel I should clarify a point I made in my original post about Places Bar tweaking. XFilesDialog does not allow the user to do this directly, but does recognise changes made to the Places Bar via editing the registry directly or through the use of X-Set-up, TweakUI, PlacesBarTweaker (http://www.ioisland.com/placesbar/), etc.  I found that DlgXRSizer didn't do this when I tried it yesterday. I no longer remember whether File-Ex 3 did this or not (I tested it about a month ago).

Hi,

I use XFilesDialog, which I have not seen mentioned on this site. I prefer it to File-Ex 3 for a variety of reasons - IMHO GUI is better, it seems more powerful to me (and more easily configured), and it just WORKS, whereas I had problems getting File-Ex to work with Office 2000/XP apps. I realise that I can configure File-Ex so that the GUI is more to my liking - I didn't like the default settings that placed additional buttons and menus at the bottom of the dialog (XFilesDialog adds the same functionality via buttons placed in the title bar). What sealed the deal for me was the lack of default support in File-Ex for Office 2000/XP (I use pieces of both). XFilesDialog also supports editing of the PlacesBar whereas other apps that I have tried don't do this "out of the box".

Just some thoughts to add to the mix...

I'm VERY late in entering this discussion but thought I'd mention that Your Uninstaller! 2004 allows uninstall info to be sorted by install date and last use date... I've used other uninstallers, both free and paid for such as Ashampoo's Uninstaller Suite (nice idea but slow and fairly often removed files essential for other apps during the uninstallation process), UnClean (by PCMag) - which I still have installed, and My Uninstaller.

Just my two bits...
