General Software Discussion / Re: Looking for Project management timeline software
« Last post by kartal on January 06, 2009, 10:42 AM »
PPLandry

I will use this funxtion to see a yearly project and task planning. Some of my projects takes at least couple weeks. So it is very important for me to see what really happen how much time I spent last year for example.

Ideally the kind of information I would like to see on the calendar

-Name of the task
-Duration of the task

Also I would like to see couple more view methods like

-52 weeks (rather than months)

After searching for days, I could not find anything that I can use for this purpose. Maybe I am the only person on the planet has this kind of need :)

I am all looking for offline solutions, otherwise there are bunch of online calendar.

Based on my searches for sometime I come to conclusion that actually Gemx has a really a good calendar(one of the best for this purpose). The minute they implement Ical subscription(both ways) I would buy it right away. Do you know if they are planning such feature in near future?

Btw I managed to import .csv into Gemx Organizer from Gantt project.

I use Essential Pim free version which gives year planner and .ics import export. But the problem is that i just imports so but no subscription. It is the best alternative so far.

Dormouse,

All I need is a yearly planner calendar tool(So far I failed to find any app). I just realize that it would be overkill for me to buy Gemx just for that feature considering its price. I mean it looks like nice piece of app but really beyond more than what I need. Also it cannot subscribe to ics calendar whic is a big minus for me.

Btw I realy think that its is budgeting modul is unnecessarily complicated. I tried entering some spendings , but I got confused about how to handle all the interface. All I needed was to enter couple dollars and items to see how it works out and I gave up.

Is this actually a mouse beside being a trackball?  I have the marble mouse but that one is only a trackball. I would love to get a hybrid pointer device.

Very highly recommended and I am now a logitech zealot, for lack of a better term, although I won't attack you if you use Microsoft ;-)

Logitech Cordless Trackman Wheel
Mine went bad a few months after the 5 year warranty. I called Logitech up and all they wanted was the serial number and model. Two days later I had a brand new Cordless Trackman Wheel.  :Thmbsup: :-*

I personally do not use outlook so that part is useless to me. And .csv format to be messy. It can export .ics, no importing though.

I am trying to find one that can use subscription as well not just basic import export.

I just looked at Gexm organizer. It looks like it has some nice calendar stuff. Too bad it cannot subscribe to a network calendar which is what I need mainly :(

Hi

I am looking for a software that would let me input tasks-events-projects. I know any calendar app can do this. But what I am looking for is to be able to visualize this data set in different ways. Many calendar apps can only do daily-weekly or monthly which does not serve my need. I am looking for something that can also show as gant charts or yearly timeline etc. At the moment I am using Gantt project and Lighting(mozilla). The main problem I have with Gantt project is that it does not support .ics calendar format(import or export) so I need to enter data multiple times in multiple applications. I use tracking software to track my time on projects. I can export the data from tracking app as .ics but Gantt project does not import any .ics calendar :(

Any suggestions? No googleing advices please. I am looking for applications that are used or tested by Dc members.

thanks

General Software Discussion / Re: MBR Backup & Restore
« Last post by kartal on December 28, 2008, 12:35 PM »
It is always good idea to recommend the tools we use not the ones we never use especially when it comes to things like partitions, mbr etc. We would not want fellow Dc members to get into an accident. The reason I am mentioning this is that everytime I ask for software recommandation someone pops up and says google is my friend blah blah. I think it is silly to think that google search is a some kind of skill that needs to be reminded by someone else.

On the otherhand I actually did use google search to find a partition tool to use on my mac-windows boot. The tool ended up totally messing up partition mbr tables which ended costing me over couple hundred dollars because original Bootcamp expired and was  no longer usable so I needed to upgrade to Leopard. And this tool was from a reputable company like Paragon, called camptune. I did not do anything really, just put the cd into drive, boot and watch. Boommm, my hd was doomed. So again google search is not the best deal at all times.

One of the reasons things are usually on the top of the PageRank is because people are willing to link to them, ie. for example, it's the best of it's kind.

Well eventually if you do not want to share your mindmaps you can use it offline. You will share your mindmaps if you choose to upload them.

I use it on xp64 and ubuntu linux I am not getting the kind of memory leak you have there. What os are you on?

I downloaded and was going to install. But their support has a lot of comments about obscene memory usage (over 1GB) and errors from insufficient window handles. Apparently they've got a big leak problem.

Post New Requests Here / Re: Extra mouse buttons combo
« Last post by kartal on December 07, 2008, 05:11 PM »
Hi Skrommel,

thanks for the script. It looks like it has the idea. It successfully simulates and distinguish those buttons.  But before getting into hacking I should mention that XButton1 and xButton2 will be "ctrl" and "shift" modifiers. And during the usage I would keep them pressed to simulate a pressed down shift or ctrl. One common problem with simulating shift or ctrl via scripts is that they stay stuck even after releasing the hosting key.  Do you think that your script can successfully simulate shift keys? Otherwise I might need to add shift pressed and release stuff which might take a lot more time than I anticipate since I am not a programmer at all.

Post New Requests Here / Extra mouse buttons combo
« Last post by kartal on December 04, 2008, 12:01 AM »
Hi

I tried to post on Ahk forums but I could not get any real help. I am hoping that Dc coders can crack this for bonus donation credits :)

What I am trying to do is,

-Xbutton1+Xbutton2=c key (sends c key)

-Xbutton1=Ctrl (when not in combo mode)

-Xbutton2=Shift  (when not in combo mode)

Here is the code I am using at the moment. But the problem is that I loose the functionality of Xbutton1. Everything works except Xbutton1 as individual button.

~XButton1 & ~XButton2::Send c

XButton2::Send {Shift Down}
XButton2 Up::Send {Shift Up}
XButton1::Send {Ctrl Down}
XButton1 Up::Send {Ctrl Up}
