Word Processor Roundup / Re: Textmaker (Softmaker/Ashampoo Office) 2008
« Last post by TucknDar on March 21, 2008, 04:50 AM »
I tried a few simple things with boxes and images placed above each other and some wrapping here and there, and everything seemed fine txtmaker->word

But a full document with extensive formatting would make for a proper test. I think I've got some laying around...

Only problem with Nirsoft is that I couldn't find a way to donate :-\ Even sent a mail about it, but didn't get a reply, so maybe it's the ultimate in giveaway freeware.

Yes, I'm trying it and it seems to be very good Office suite. Still need some time to see whether it's worth buying though. It starts very fast, btw!

Oh yeah, didn't think of that. I'll look at other possible solutions then, like UPS or something.

Yes, cmpm, which is a good reason to look at an inexpensive extra "meetingpoint" (not exactly backup) which could just be a blog (tons of free ones) with comment section and possibility to download the software.

I'm sure mouser et al will come up with something great :)

*BUMP*

I'm curious as to how well it writes (and reads) MS Office docs. I mostly use OpenOffice, but seeing as this company claims they have full compatibility with ms office I might be interested. Did any of you try to save documents with several pictures, frame boxes and formatting and then look at it in word?

Hm, not too sure what this is about still, but that's probably since I woke up at 5.30am today :p

Anyway, I suppose there could be some sort of minor backup solution. I take it it would be quite expensive to have complete mirrors of DC all over the net, but maybe a "just-in-case-place" where there could at least be blog+comments possibility so the community could be kept up-to-date on progress.

Personally I'm in the IRC channel pretty often, so I'll get my DC fix there, but if the server went down again a redirect to something like DC@Blogger or whatever should be fairly simple and inexpensive.

I don't know what you mean. Do you mean like a new kind of forum? Or having backup solutions?

My PIM of choice is discounted on BitsDuJour today: http://www.bitsdujou...re/essentialpim-pro/

We know that it's an old-fashioned idea, but we really do believe that a computer's primary function should be to make our lives easier, especially when it comes to the day-to-day.

That's why we love offering Personal Information Management (PIM) software to our readers. The best of them provide power, flexibility, and enough features to coordinate and simplify just about any aspect of your life.

EssentialPIM is, without a doubt, one of the best PIMs available. It is refined, intuitive, secure, attractive, feature-laden, elegant, customizable, integratable...

Don't mind them, actually :o :o :o :o :o

Also it's how I can stop spam yet still let anonymous users  post. Logged in users obviously don't need the captchas. Maybe there's spam technology that's smarter than most captchas, but from my experiences it's like this:
No captcha = Plenty of offers for viagra, used cars, penis enhancements etc.
Captcha = 0 - zero - offers but some perfectly valid anonymous posts.
