By the way, I had a brief look at your software as well. Does your software really reveal and store passwords in your program visible for everybody after I entered them in web forms a few times? Whoa!  :-\

Something just happened that has absolutely made my day. I just tried PhraseExpress and guess what? It reveals more passwords than Auspex does  ;D

Build 78
New Features

    * Now I know where my icons came from, FamFam freely given full acknowledgement
    * Same for nudone of DonationCoder.com who did the really good ones
    * Removed the multiple cut-n-paste feature. It's outside the scope of what Auspex is really all about, and there are a lot of really nice multi-clipboard applications out there
    * Added new tokens for additional date and time formats

Bug Fixes

    * Splash screen can now be switched off (but why would you want to?) :)
    * Fixed issue where some users were not getting characters like '@' in Replacements
    * Form resizing limited so you can't hide the controls in the left pane
    * Fixed a couple of case-sensitivity issues

I can't wait to see all the new badges on everyone's profiles. Certainly in my case it makes me want to start NANY 2012 (Mayan Edition) already.

It would only pop up if a) she started typing the Ex's name or b) Mr Serious set up a replacement to autotype the Ex's name for some reason. Is there something you're trying to tell us?

Auspex detects passwords, and password fields, as best it can, and tries not to save them. No doubt it'll get better over time since I'm really enjoying developing this product. In fact, much more so after today

Do you have any other good advice for my product? Because this is gold as far as improving my free software goes.  8)

Indeed, he seems to use FamFam without giving credit. Shame!

Consider me chastised. Now I know that some of my icons are from FamFam, I have added a link to his site from the About screen of Auspex, and I'll also add a credit to the documentation when it's available to the masses.

Does DC have a set of unwritten rules about what is and is not acceptable? Maybe a set of written rules that I should have read when I joined but did not? (Much the same way as I gaily click "I agree to the terms of the license" radio button the moment it appears when installing software) ;)

I dont know timns - but I dont think it would actually make much difference either way.

As you know,
things usually work nicely around here, but, yes, sometimes they dont. If they dont it's a challenge... I've been, eh, in "challenging" situations a few times - always a PIA but I think I have also learned a bit about myself too that way, FWIW (put it this way, sometimes I've rewritten my posts a lot before posting - luckily I'm not hasty with clicking [Post])

mouser always seems to be able to keep his cool - maybe I should try persuade him to do some coaching sessions :)

Good reply, Tom, thank you. Personally I like a good punch-up, but DC is quite a calming sort of place and I'm really enjoying this forum more than anywhere else I tend to hang out.

Of course, you can laugh at your users this way but you may want to check out this.
I wasn't laughing at my users - I love these guys. But we should be able to laugh at ourselves.

Anway, it is your business. Good luck. Bye.

No, just a hobby. Thank you for the good wishes - you inspire me to carry on improving the software

So, you want to teach your users your ideas of how their passwords have to look like?

Well, no, just common sense really.

If I've helped someone improve their security by mentioning that passwords should be a mix of upper/lower, symbols and numbers then I hope I've made the interwebs a slightly safer place.

Hey kids, be safe: passwords should be a mix of upper/lower, symbols and numbers!

Feels like I missed quite a few fiery threads here on DC in the past, but just recently there have been one or two instances that seem to me to contravene the spirit of the site.

Does DC have a set of unwritten rules about what is and is not acceptable? Maybe a set of written rules that I should have read when I joined but did not? (Much the same way as I gaily click "I agree to the terms of the license" radio button the moment it appears when installing software) ;)

I ask purely out of interest in the opinions of the fine DC population.

After I heard about Phrase Express the other day, I did actually give it a try. Didn't like it. It learns the most bizarre phrases!

PhraseExpress only learns what you enter and does not blend or mix it up. ;-)

By the way, I had a brief look at your software as well. Does your software really reveal and store passwords in your program visible for everybody after I entered them in web forms a few times? Whoa!  :-\

Only if you are crazy enough to have passwords that are simple text only. You have simple easy to crack passwords? Whoa!  :o

Nice!  I can already see the potential!  If you can create the following format...

"Nov 15, 2010 02:43 PM"

...it would be great, perfect. I have to have this format to match existing conventions in my work.

Anything for a fellow DC-er... I'm planning an update this weekend anyway, so I'll make sure you're able to create that format with predefined tokens.

Ah!  So it runs in the background and intercepts keystroke aliases to convert the text on the fly?  Am I on track here?

Yes indeed senor. So I'd like to think it may have quite a lot of uses. There are a lot of other programs similar to this out in the wild, but I am not aware of another one that can do things like the date/time replacement, or on-the-fly calculatons...

Inserts today's date when you type 'dt'

Inserts the date in a format you can control when you type 'dt1'

I can add AM/PM tokens or whatever else you'd like, if you find this program useful for what you want to do. Just let me know.

Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Insert Anywhere Date and Time utility
« Last post by timns on January 14, 2011, 04:21 PM »
Hi,

I need a utility that will stay on the top of my windows where I can "click" and the date and/or time can be inserted.  I am involved in a perpetual project where the entering of Date/Time/Date & Time is necessary many times a day across multiple text-entry applications.

PS - If this is already available, please post links.  Thank you.

Here is a list of requested features...
  • "Always On Top" option
  • Three Buttons.
    • Date
    • Time
    • Date and Time
      • The "Date and Time" button to include date, at least in this specific format, but others can be included...
"Nov 15, 2010 02:43 PM" (color only for reference, not needed in app.)
Please ask me for other formats, if you want to include them?
.
  • Optional Radiobuttons to select Date/Time formats *if* you have the time and inclination.  Thedat & Time format above,"Nov 15, 2010 02:43 PM," is my only immediate need.
    • "Date & Time"  Mmm DD, YYYY HH:MM AM (the same as the above exact example that is really the most important format.)
    • Another Date format MM/DD/YY (Example: 01/14/11)
    • Time format 1: HH:MM (24 Hr Clock)
    • Time format 2: HH:MM AM (12 Hr Clock)
    • YYYYMMDDHHSS  -  I use this to prefix file names as a simple date tagging system.
.
  • It would be nice to be typing in a text editor and just click the "Insert Date" button and populate it in the document I am working on, but I can settle for sending it to the clipboard if that is all that can be done easily.
.
  • Small footprint
    • Just big enough for the radiobuttons (for the format selections) and the three "Date," Time" and "Date & Time" insertion buttons.
    • Menu in Right-Click menu, if easier.
.
  • Just a thought...If app is produced in AHK, I might be able to make any necessary mods myself (once I learn AHK, that is), but any usable exec would be great at this time.
.
I think that about wraps it up.  Does this sound doable?  Can you give me a "best guess" ETA on completion?

Standing by...
Calvin

You can actually use Auspex for this. It has pre-defined tokens for the date and time. Screenshots coming up...

To some extent I actually prefer not to look too closely at other similar software, that way it does not (I hope) unduly influence how I implement features, or even what features I choose to add to the application.

I am surprised at how many other variants are out there, but I'd like to think that my software has at least one or two things to commend it, I mean apart from the wonderful icons

Some great suggestions and support from certain DC members will ensure my continued efforts. Bugs will get fixed, and new thingies will creep in as I carry on.

It seems odd, I guess, because it's sort of a Luddite, anti-tech dream, but still almost steampunk in its potential to be a work of art. I still have this dream of graphic, old typewriter arms klick-klacking up to the cursor line on the screen, punching an old typewriter font, creating an engaging and immersive typing experience...

Oh you have no idea how much I appreciate it.

Auspex is and will always be donationware. I wrote it for DC's NANY because I wanted to participate, not make a fortune. Which, let's face it, ain't never going to happen.

Now I know where the icons come from I shall of course give credit.

After I heard about Phrase Express the other day, I did actually give it a try. Didn't like it. It learns the most bizarre phrases! Merrylic, would you like me to buy you a license for it?
