I should of course have told that I use Process Explorer as task manager and Startup Delayer as startup manager. One result of this combination is that (most of) the programs wil be closed in the same order they were started. So "all" I have to do is, to have the New Program starting as the last program, and it will also be the last to close.

Thank you for the links (they were both new to me).

Not skrommel's "AutoClick", but some auto-clicker ??

Some weeks ago I saw some program with the feature to auto-click annoying boxes / questions / popups, but have completely forgotten all about what was the name of it - and I don't recall if this feature was the sole purpose of the program, or just one of maybe many features. My problem right now is that my XP (still) is unstable, and at shutdown I will quite too often be told that this or that program is waiting for me to click some button. This is of course annoying / frustrating, because the PC won't close until the (F-rated) button has been clicked - even though I am using Brutus > "Kill hanging apps",- and I simply NEED some app  or another  to auto-click these totally stupid boxes.

I am (almost) certain such an app is around, but what is the name of it, please??   :tellme:

I found this some time ago,

I believe you were trying a beta version back then,
Please give this new version a (second) chance!
Resizing background is what it is abouth.

Liquid Resize

A quite different kind of resizer, Liquid Resize, can be found at thegedanken.com

- I am very impressed with this app, but find it hard to tell about it, so I will encourage you to go to CyberNet Notes or YouTube and see the fine video, to understand how this works.

Wouldn't it be cool to shrink your images without losing information on the main part of the image, but only shrinking the background. This application tries to accomplish just that: take a look at the Examples and you will understand.

One very strange thing, though: The app must have been named Retarget, I guess, because the name Liquid Resize only appears in the titelbar of the program. The no-installation executing file is named Retarget.exe

Create a custom software update notifier

One of the most common things that I’ve been getting asked is how people can stay up-to-date on the latest software. I got really excited about the free UpdateStar application which I mentioned last week, but it still didn’t have information on a lot of the software that I used.

There are hundreds of sites out there that provide RSS feeds for downloads, and I began to think to myself that there had to be a good way to use some of those feeds to my advantage. Then Yahoo! Pipes came to mind since I had just used that last week to show how to translate RSS feeds, and it works perfectly in this situation.

–Overview–
What we’re going to do with Yahoo! Pipes is combine several feeds from popular download sites into one central feed. I recommend a handful of sites at the end of this article that should offer exactly what you’re looking for.

Then we’re going to use Yahoo! Pipes to sift through every item in each of the feeds, and pull out only the items that interest us. Because of the nature of Yahoo! Pipes it will only take a second to go back and add more things to watch for, so don’t worry if you forget to put an app on the list to be monitored.

Sorry, mitzevo, I didn't notice your request at first.

The most important features I get from (overlapping and eyecandy included):

QT Tabbar, CFi ShellToys, Xentient Thumbnails, WireKeys, PS Hot Folders, Send To Toys, MediaInfo, Punk ÜberIcon, BAxBEx for IrfanView, and DM2.

- but I didn't bother here to differ between gratis and $$ versions.

I am curious to know if anybody has found any program, pay or not, that works well, indexes all MS Office documents, including PSTs, PDFs, inside compressed archives, etc.
I wonder, did anyone try Exalead?

Exalead comes close, I believe. Unfortunately it made my unstable XP very sluggish, so I didn't borther to finish my test of it. But here are first the known limitations:

KNOWN LIMITATIONS

Installation and Configuration:

- You must have the Administrative Rights on your machine to install Exalead Desktop.

Hard Drives:

- Metadata Quicktime files media files are not indexed

- Only the first 100 pages of big office files are indexed.

- If your hard drive contains many files with inconsistent modifications times (modification in the future for instance), these files might be indexed again each time Exalead Desktop restarts, leading to bad overall performance.

Performance:

- “As Soon As Possible”  indexing strategy may drag down the overall performance of your computer. Sticking to “When Idle” indexing strategy fixed the problem.

- If the user configures the Product to index the whole content of its C: hard drive, a small impact in the overall performance of its PC might be noticed, especially when services that manipulate a large number of temporary files are also running on the same PC.

Outlook Express:

- It is not possible to index IMAP accounts within Outlook Express
-Exalead ReadMe

Their praise:

exalead_adv.gif

You can set Exalead to not use more than so or so percentage CPU while indexing, but here is the CPU usage (while indexing) without this restrain:

10.GIF

WARNING:
Add/Remove was NOT able to remove Exalead properly from my computer
- but otherwise it seemed to be a very fine search engine thingy.

Sure

A most adequate link, I would say.
6410
Oh, I was blur...

I didn't mean the font, but what the text is telling:

EasyReadControl.gif

I would say you should keep this text - but still the third picture is nicer to look at, I think.
But of course, compromises can be good.
6411
Well - "brave new world" - I surely am impressed.

- and maybe now I can understand why D'Opus' pricetag grew to be so enormous.

But seriously: $40 for merely updating it, and two years in college for learning how to use it??!! Get lost! I am glad that my needs are fulfilled by my slow, crude and simple but gratis Explorer combination, thank you!

Sincerely: Stupicurtious
~ Dumb but happy...  :P

Oh, there is a manual?   :-[

Just yesterday a friend wrote me and told about a vision he allegedly had recieved from God. In the vision there was a blindfolded couple, standing in front of a giant diamond. They didn't know there was this huge treasure, so they didn't know they could touch it and grab it  if only they would reach out their arms. Your praise to D'Opus makes me sort of feel the same way.
6413
Thanks for the pedagogic answer, sri   :D

I remember a teacher who gave a very poor lecture on a subject, and then asked: "Are there any questions to this?" We were not able to answer him, because you really have to know at least something   in order to understand what it is you should be asking. I guess, the problem with D'Opus is just about the same: I did trial the wonder program, but I didn't know anything about what could be done, so I never knew why I should keep it. Because I didn't know how to ask the right question.

Maybe.
6414
Yes, it might very well be a question about being stupid but happy...  8)

Seriously, I was trialing D'Opus, but didn't find any reason to keep it. Without remembering, I would guess that some / many of the impressive D'Opus features you were telling about - and they do sound impressive! -, demands that I learn how to write a script??
6415
"these" ~ the addons??
6416
Is the context menu really placed that far away, that I should change my Explorer, just to have those features in a button instead?

Edit: Bad phrasing.

Of course any zipper will do the first job, from the context menu.
I didn't know I should need a dated folder, so I never looked for an app with this feature.

@ sri: on another topic, this link is for you:

6417
Come on/one, he said. So here I am - again:

To the best of my experience   none   of the apps you all have mentioned   can do better  than our standard XP's Explorer plus addons.

Tell me what it is, apart from dual panes, that I cannot do with Explorer plus addons, but that you can do with something else, please! I mean, I have (almost) tried all of them, and still I don't miss anything in my Explorer plus addons. What is it that you have, that I don't have?
6418
My vote goes to the original version!
- because of the text and the easy-to-identify update button.

But version 2 is a little 'nicer' to look at, though.

You see, I want to reduce that one extra step in reaching to my favorite folders and files in windows explorer. ~...
W/ QTT, you still have to click on the star dropdown and select the group you wanna launch.

Sorry for not noticing this a long time ago, sri   :-[

It is very easy to have Explorer to open with several folders at once:

Start UP Group

To register a group as Start Up Group, click the menu item of Group Menu with Control + Shift keys down.

I merely have five folders visible at launch:

How about some links, because I sure won't find "styler" just by googling/yahooing it
you are wrong

How about a link then?

What kind of pessimists are you guys? Are you so sure of failure, that you don't even dare to at least TRY? Please!

Search for Styler and it will be the very FIRST answer you will get!! How hard can it be?

Try TitleChanger 1.0

Run the program, then press ScrollLock to change the title of the active window!
...
I have no idea why you would want to use it, so please enlighten me lol :)

I like this little program   because I have at least two programs with annoying titles:

title1.gif
title2.gif

But it would so nice if you, justice, will add some memory to the program, so when placed in Start it will auto-change these titles, also after a PC restart, please! - kind of a permanent change, so to speak.
 :tellme:

I have no idea how to use ahk.

The new gratis (absolutely not "FREE") Guide version 3.6 for XP is 172 pages and 2.1 MB PDF,
and my "old" (March 2007) premium verson 3.4 for XP is 211 pages and 11.6 MB PDF.

- but I really didn't bother to further compare the two versions. [Edit: See prev. post from Lashiec]

Contents, gratis version 3.6 (645 x 5523 pixels, 376 KB):

... NoteZilla also lets you to insert images inside sticky notes. ...

To the best of my experience and (lack of) understanding, NoteZilla will merely copy the address of the image, not the image itself. Edit: What a bummer, Curt: Just right-click, and click "Insert Picture"!!

@ Gautam, thanks for participating here at DC. The last mail I received from you, was when you asked me >>what exactly you like more in Stickies so that we can take only the best aspects of Stickies?<<. (see edited)

-- i never knew about that site.

April the 24'th.  DC Supporting Member  AdIyhc  inspried me to buy the de luxe version of Mr. Koroush Ghazi's   Guide for XP   [most recommended!], and I am glad to see this new version for the Firefox browser. I am certainly going to download the free version and consider purchasing any future de luxe version as well.

You can download the tweak guide for XP at this site: http://www.tweakguides.com/

Edit: Oh, one cannot download this guide:

A pitty, the line 118 error, as I would imagine 4Team to be a fine affordable solution.
-Edit2: maybe you should try to close the firewall and install on top / again?

I think the number of tasks / subtasks / subprojects are unlimited:
