After trying this a bit more I see how he is working the Auto Minimize.  For some reason I thought it required manual intervention to start the next operation.  Works fine the way it is.  The minimized instances will execute in order.  Perfect for my usage with Q-Dir.

edit: but so far it looks like the free one will do what I need.  If I could get it for $11 that would but I'm only going to use it to copy GB files out of a file manager that doesn't multi-task.  Explorer copy on Vista64 is actually pretty much the same afa transfer speed for my usage.

btw can anyone tell me if the 2.12 Pro version still has that AutoMinimize behavior on the 2nd instance where  you have to hit the Start Now button before the timer runs down?(There doesn't seem to be a full featured Trial Version of Pro.  If you click download instead of buy you get the free version. No way to know exactly what you are going to get if you pay.)

I'm having trouble finding a 64 bit free Windows file manager that can multi-task.  I thought I'd try the approach of using a 64 bit file copy utility to offload the copy operation avoiding file manager freeze with multi-GB files.  Turns out there aren't many of those for free either.  Many have some quirk that makes them unusable.  For example, one pops up a status dialog in the corner near the task tray.  You can move it, but when it opens again, it's right back to where you didn't want it. Stuff like that just makes the utility unusable for me.

btw if you like to try betas or have several versions of FF using the same profile, I found out how to get rid of that "thank you for trying" page on first start after switching versions.  After awhile it can get pretty annoying.

This info should be enough to get you there:

To get rid of the "Welcome" in FF 3.x in the address bar type
about:config

in the search type StartUp

you will see settings with the words Welcome and First Run
and some stuff about Override URL. Double click them.
A dialog pops up. Substitute either about:blank or your home page URL for what is in the dialog. Close Firefox.

Note that I use settings "start with home page" and I use about:blank for my home page.  If you put in the actual url for your home page and change the setting then you'd have to change it each time to match it up. It's probably better just to have it at about:blank as a blank page is less annoying IMHO than that thank you page.

Right now I'm using FF 3.6 RC2 and I got rid of 3.7Pre as the snappier page load is only a fraction of a second and what it lacks are features I use.  But one good side-effect is if I do try another version or beta because I already have those settings in my profile I don't get the Thank You page or Welcome on first run(doesn't change the size of my browser window for one thing.)

Especially now it just came out supporting 64 bit. The thing to do though is try the freebie just in case it doesn't like your HD controller.  Sometimes going from version to version the driver won't install.  I just save a copy of the last installer where everything worked in case a new version won't install or has a bug.  Entering the license info enables all the additional features. There's no different download to install.  You know the driver installed before you pay with that approach.

The first 64 bit build of the recent 64 bit generation would not install on my PC as I have a raid controller.  I posted details to the Sandboxie forum and the next build installed fine.  The author constantly works it. I don't feel bad about shelling out when the programmer actively supports it like that, esp. when it's under $50.

And, no I didn't get a free copy for plugging it.  I bought it back in 2007.

What I'd like to find now is a gui that will run tsMuxer jobs in batch. tsMuxerGui is fine but it gets tedious doing the same drag & drop operation 10 or 15 times when all the params are the same. Outfile is sourcefile with different extension etc..

Or a folder mode like Popcorn MKV audio converter has would be nice.

I tried a couple of runs with it but it just felt like it was too easy to miss a setting and start the thing going. I seem to have an easier time remembering how to set the options with AVStoDVD.  Plus the help gives some hints on which sizer to use. One thing I recently realized with AVStoDVD when converting HD source down to DVD, the fps processing isn't that much slower on my dual core than my quad core.  I can do the job on the dual core which runs much quieter when the cores are maxed out, and it only costs me about another hour for the conversion. Going from avi to dvd the quad core is much faster esp. when using multiple instances of the video converter.  But downsizing is so slow that the percentage difference only gets you a few frames per second.  It's more convenient just to put the job on the quiet machine and forget about it for a few hours.

The Sysinternals Autostarts works, but its interface is pretty busy. If you suspect a particular thing is starting up there's a search feature.  But to just look through all the stuff is pretty hypnotic.  My eyes glaze over.

Looks like UPX is a bit smarter about compression of exe/resources than 7-zip. Using the Compile II mentioned with UPX off a trivial AHK script with icon resource compiles to about 486 KB instead of 277 KB.  After compressing both with 7-zip the one with no UPX compresses to a 258 KB download instead of 213 KB. I haven't done any trials with larger apps since I only use AHK for very small scripts.

With the rate these viruses propagate has anyone done any calculations on the possibility of random signature matches?  Or are the permutations so large that it's trivial?  Before Linux had to be able to handle all these Windows file formats, most files didn't even have an extension.  You relied on a program called 'file' iirc that looked at the start of the file and guessed if it was a printer configuration file, a bash script, an executable etc..
I wonder how long it will be until just any random string of bytes at the start of a file matches some virus signature somewhere?

I just checked NewEgg.com as now and then they have 100 Pack cake boxes of Verbatim DVD+R 16x for righteous money.  Sure enough I got an order in for $23.99 standard shipping free.  For a quarter I can risk a coaster now and then.

I don't know how long it's on.  I just went to the product as that's the DVD+R I always use.  The cheap price is not for the Hub Printable with the white latex.  Only the gold brush metal color jobs. These are the same ones you frequently see on sale in OfficeMax for around the same money.  I've had very good luck with them.  Here's the link:

Just added a few sanity checks.  Source and Target must be on the same drive. Checks to prevent move of C:\ into C:\temp and that type of thing.  Note that it is only meant to be used with local drives.  Network paths are not supported.

btw for nightly builds I find update counter-productive.  If you have to back it off and you've been using the update mechanism, then you don't have the installers for past builds that worked well.  Best to download from the ftp site.
The nightly builds aren't hard to find.  Google "minefield nightly build".  Try posting a problem report or just finding them to read.  It's not trivial.

They are not big on grouping related things in their web space.  More about feature splash pages with no good links how to find the details you are looking for.

The whole Mozilla site is difficult.  Everything is totally scattered.  Takes 10 minutes just to find the change log for the latest stable version.  It's a mess.

They don't seem interested in clarification.  Seems more like "there's no such thing as bad publicity" mentality.

Thanks for telling, AbteriX. ReNamer is my favorite file renaming utility, but there's clearly lots I don't know about it. Needless to say, Bulk Rename Utility really overwhelmed me with all its options.

BRU can be a killer.  Most of the time unless I want to perform concurrent operations I just use the rename utility built into FreeCommander.  It has a simple numbering feature and macros for name, count etc..  The main downer for FC is it's 32 bit Delphi code.  Runs fine on 32 OS but on Vista64 it can be sluggish.  Sometimes I click on a file and it takes a second or two to move the highlight.

All I know is it works as well if not better than 3.6 beta 5.  It's not the easiest thing in the world to even find FF betas on the Mozilla sites.  The whole setup is totally disorganized. Not to mention having about 5 concurrent versions extant.  The whole thing looks like a churning operation.

They officially released FF 3.6.  This is the same code as FF RC2 Jan. 15 Build 1 release. I've been using it since then.  Seems stable.

Just for grins I downloaded the 3.6 final English 32 bit installer and the md5 sum is the same as the Jan. 15 RC2.

If you're running that version no need to download.
