If it is stolen anyway, it would bee good if LocatePC already was installed.

If the worst happens to your computer and it is stolen then usually there's no way to track where it is. That's where LocatePC comes in.

LocatePC sends you a secret email message from your computer containing vital information that can help you and law enforcement track a stolen computer, and eventually return it to you.

LocatePC is free software, and runs unobtrusively on your computer, with no icons, popups or saved emails. If your computer is stolen then the thief will not even know that LocatePC is running, and as soon as they connect to the internet a secret email is sent to you containing the details that you need to track your hardware.

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: Spartan Multi Clipboard
« Last post by Curt on November 09, 2007, 05:37 PM »
I have been running the M8 Spartan clipboard for a couple of months by now, and I like it a lot; I think it is worth the price. Only one little feature bothered me: Spartan has an activation button which will pop up whenever the mouse pointer reaches the pre-selected edge of the screen. But this would also happen in the corners, meaning that the button in my setup would get in the way when I was trying to close a maximized window. So finally I pulled my act together and wrote M8 and asked for option not to activate in the corners. 50 hours later I recieved an email from John Turnbull telling that my feature request had been met, and the new version was ready for download.

In merely 50 hours! Fine service!!

"of its time"????  I still use TClockEx 1.42 today - it is installed om every PC I own!!

Why? Didn't you upgrade to XP or Vista? I don't think TClockEx looks good on XP (so now I am using BetaClock from AlfaClock. (Hmmm... I see there is also a version that comes with "a loader" - I haven't noticed that one before. I think I will try it now!).

... a question: does anyone know of a software company that said at some point, "this thing we make is as good as it needs to be, so we're not going to improve it anymore?"

A perfect program of its time was Dale Nurden's TClockEx 1.42

Also, Alexander Davidson's MetaPad 3.5, as mentioned on page 1.

Were you referring to Timeit.exe , not timeout ??
- I don't see any timeout.exe at the page you linked to.

I think of wide screen as ten thousand old wallpapers that will no more fit the screen.

And as letters and documents looking different on the recievers screen, from what I intended them to.

Edit: BTW:
My LCD is from before LCD was invented, I guess; it is from the previous century. 786,432 pixels.

"Unread Topics" is listing 25 threads I am supposed not to have read, but I know for sure that I have read 5 of them. It seems not to be too accurate. Of course there are hundreds or thousands of topics I haven't read. Anyway, I have never before used this feature, and I don't think I will again.

This is horrible, Brandon!  :o

1) Setup created a new Directory: C:/Program Files/, instead of C:/%Program Files%/ ~ C:/Programmer/  in Danish.

2) Setup was not [Edit: "all" ] successfull, I guess, but ended with "gave me" an error message: [I missed to see the icon in the systray]

3) There is no uninstaller, and the program is not listed in XP's Add/Remove Programs.
The folder's content:

So what am I to do now?

General Software Discussion / Re: ESET Smart Security

Regarding the leak tests, then it is important to remember that Eset several times has declared that they are taking another point of view than the "traditional". The new Eset firewall is handling the leaks in a different way, which will make it seem as if they are not handled at all, but they are. I don't quite understand the procedure, but you can read about it at Wilders Security Forum. Scott Finnie is not a guru of mine.

I have high hopes for the Eset Smart Security, and if my expectations are met within a year, I will most likely adopt the "smart" suite October 2008 when both my NOD32 and my Outpost Pro license expires - such giving Eset time to further improve the suite.  I think the price-jump from NOD32 is fair, acceptable, ~ from $40 to $60.

NODSmart.gif

Edit: Maybe in a year also the Scandinavian reseller will have discovered Smart Security, and will actually offer it!! Not even the very name, Smart Security, is to be found at the Danish site!! - which is a problem as long as potential buyers are being auto-redirected to their national reseller.

The version on the pictures in my previous post is version 3.0.551.0   which is a BETA version that was downloaded from Major Geeks before the weekend, but the final version you can download today from Eset's homepage is version 3.0.551
~ Looking at the version numbers  I find it pretty hard to tell the difference!

I only have a minor issue: I find it wrong to occupy several folders in Program Files. It is annoying to my eyes. The main folder [Edit: "for all of your programs"] should be CompuTech, and the sub (install) folder SnapSuite.

Otherwise I think you are just growing and growing!

Edit2: Well, at the age of 15 you are supposed to do just that!  :P

I have to confess that I did think it checked outgoing mail and was surprised to read it didn't.
-Carol Haynes (June 10, 2006, 06:40 AM)

Quite a lot of people are using Outlook, and NOD32 is checking outgoing mail in Outlook.

... I do think the interface (when you do want to make any tweaks) is very porly designed.
-Carol Haynes (June 10, 2006, 06:40 AM)

Hopefully the update to version 3 will solve all of these issues.
-Carol Haynes (June 10, 2006, 06:40 AM)

NOD32 Version 3.0 is being launched now.

The design is of course better - nothing else would even be posible! - and a lot easier to use. And today NOD32 is so much more than merely an antivirus. I think NOD32 is The Best program I have purchased, and now it is also nice to look at!

The image is the 3.0.551.0 BETA version from last week:
(click for full size):

The design of the GUI is now traditional, and easy to understand:

General Software Discussion / Re: Do you use Desktop Widgets?
« Last post by Curt on November 05, 2007, 10:07 AM »
Unless you have a widescreen, I can see no reason for desktop widgets. I only look at my desktop at PC Start and Shutdown [Edit: of for the fun of it]. When I want to take a break, I will start the screen saver. I don't understand the widget thing.

As Darwin, I am using True Launch Bar and PS Tray Factory. If I need (want) to see how my drive is doing, I will simply point at PS Tray Factory's tray icon, and all sorts of information will pop up. I find this to be smarter than to have to minimize all windows. The temperature outside my door, and the weather, and avaiable amount of RAM, and the CPU usage, are all being showed all the time in the task bar. I also could have the date shown all the time, if I wanted to, but I don't [Edit2: because I see it at every Startup, due to Webshots].

Edited for courtesy...

I don't want a folder to be named "x.12.2.5.23.5"

But maybe the choice can be added as an option?

General Software Discussion / Re: How to remove Flash Player not listed in Add/Remove?
« Last post by Curt on November 04, 2007, 05:24 PM »
YES, I would certainly like to repair XP, but NO, it's an OEM with no disc, and the backup disc is far too old to use already: I would loose some 300 programs... when I have had my CD Player repaired.....

NO, I have no Air... I have erased everything named Adobe or Macromedia.

And YES, registry cleaners are dangerous. Today I am convinced that it was a bad cleaning that started all the troubles many months ago!

General Software Discussion / Re: How to remove Flash Player not listed in Add/Remove?
« Last post by Curt on November 04, 2007, 01:03 PM »
Hmmm... this is getting really bizarre, I think. I unistalled Adobe Reader, meaning there should not be any more Adobe or Macromedia programs on my machine. I then used RegSeeker to erase more than 500 Adobe- and 30 Macromed- entries from the Registry! I even removed the new Access Bridge from Sun, because it somehow is connected to Adobe Reader. Then I rebooted, and tried for the tenth time to install Adobe Flash Player and ActiveX Plugin, but the procedure failed again again!

Adobe is added to Trusted with everything alloved.

---
@ Darwin. I have to take it that way, because the installer did not just "inform" me about the alledged "new" version. It simply told me to get a newer version, and closed!
---

Not being able to install any version of Flash Player, no matter what browser I use, and with the registry cleaned from almost any presence of Adobe and Macromed, I have absolutely no idea what to do now. Do you have an idea, please?

 :tellme:

Edit:
I closed almost every program on my machine, before installation.

Sorry: I should of course have taken my time to explain in some more details.

Flash Player AND ActiveX Plugin used to be listed in Add/Remove Programs, but when they failed, XP asked if I wanted to remove their presence from the list. So they do come with an uninstaller.

I did ran the uninstaller which PhilB66 linked to, (Thank You, Phil!), but somehow Flash Player is still here, because when I then tried to install a fresh .60. BETA version from Major Geeks, the installer popped up and claimed that this was not the newest  version and I should go to Adobe to get the "new" (older) .47. version! This tells me that some Flash Player leftovers still remains somewhere at my PC, doesn't it.

So how do I remove leftovers from Flash Player and ActiveX Plugin, I guess I should ask.

General Software Discussion / How to remove Flash Player not listed in Add/Remove?
« Last post by Curt on November 03, 2007, 07:47 PM »
It has been impossible for me to get a reasonable answer from Adobe, so now I am asking you guys, dolls and magicians: How to remove Adobe Flash Player and ActiveX Plugin ?

They are of course not listed in XP's Add / Remove Programs.

The problem began with the flash player not working, so I updated from Major Geeks to the new beta version. But this didn't help - on the contrary: When I tried to uninstall, XP would say that these programs seemed not to be installed, so would I like them to be removed from the list? I answered YES. Maybe I shouldn't have, because now I cannot install, and I cannot uninstall, or repair.

So I have no flash, and yet I have it - if you know what I mean.

So how can I remove Flash Player and ActiveX Plugin from my XP, so I can make a fresh install, please ??
