I have been offered a OEM disc at $180, the retail version is about $400 here in Denmark.

if you shop around can you not get it cheaper?
I see multi-language OEM versions here (de) for 60 euro:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit OEM DVD und Windows 7 Home Premium COA (Multilanguage).

I know you wanted an upgrade - they dont have any on that site... but for €60 I'd chance an OEM myself...

You need lots of time and/or money ;-)
(write it out by hand)

There are some fonts that have multiple versions of many letters to make text more interesting and/or "handwritten". I was looking at some lately, will see if I can find them. I dont know how they work e.g. how do you choose which "k" is used if there are three versions of it...

... that actually looks tempting.
Sure I could do a lot better though :)

Can I ask why you want to do this? I find the structured nature of PDFs very useful and single image files a bit of a PITA. IS there a reason why the bitmap approach would be widely needed?

Edited : the reason I want to use an image format rather than a text format is to avoid any possible error when converting the .doc file to the .pdf format, such as font missing and substituted by another one, etc. .  So far, all "regular" word to pdf software show a few errors here and there.  I really want a 100% perfect copy within the pdf, whatever font/text/image is used in the source document.

It may be too late already.  I went to look at my history to see what was there and maybe clear it.  The only screen that comes up for me is:
 (see attachment in previous post)
I do not get the option like the screen shown in the EF example:
 (see attachment in previous post)
Oh well.

I havent used it in a few years, but IIRC, if you print through a programme like FinePrint* it will/can save everything printed. Can be reprinted etc.

* a virtual -is that the right word?- printer. There were other similar, but cheaper, apps recommended here within the last couple of years, so if something like that is what you want, you could do a search here.

-no, I was just dreaming. The case is, I have a favourite program waiting for me on my abandoned XP. Now I see that the more pricey W7 versions will run XP "for free" - starting my imagination!
tomos talked about "xpmode", but I didn't understand it, until now.
The only reason xpmode is interesting is because it includes a valid license, but it should best be run in VirtualBox or VMWare solutions, not on crappy VPC as MS wants you to. In both alternate cases, it's still running on the same Windows 7 instance, and with the VirtualBox solution it's even nearly as seamless as the original VPC mode.

just curious:
if you did get xpmode, could you then use the XP key in "VirtualBox or VMWare solutions" ?
-
This was also discussed in more depth here     Win 7, XP mode, & other first install queries

FWIW:
I thought I might need xpmode myself, I have two pieces of software from 1999 that I use daily, but they are now running (almost perfectly - they had minor bugs in XP as well) with a normal (32bit) install on Win7 pro 64bit. (I presume they would work just fine on home 64bit version as well.)

What do you use for packed drives?

Raxco's PerfectDisk is the only one I've found that will completely defragment a drive that's 95% full. This special offer aside, it's also cheaper than its competition.

I have done that in the past with JKDefrag, now MyDefrag (free/donation-ware)

Windows xpmode only comes with professional or higher. Might be worth having...

FWIW, I have professional on a standalone machine, I installed it myself and dont remember much about it - meaning it was *not* traumatic ;-) & not much in the line of questions.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Feature request: Sizable canvas.
« Last post by tomos on February 20, 2012, 12:23 PM »
For my own purposes, it would be nice if I could easily increase the canvas size by 100%.
[...]
Seems like I often am comparing to version of the same image side-by-side, hence I need it to be doubled.

what you'd actually want then, would be double the height *or* double the width. I suspect it's nearly as easy to add the relevant pixel number (as shown in dialogue) to canvas height or width...

edit/ I not knocking the idea... :)

^ that was great Edvard

I've always been a big fan of Eastern Bloc Metal, but... accordians!  :Thmbsup

have you heard Russen Disko? More brass than accordions - but I think there's a few of them too. I think there's a film (German language) but I havent seen/heard anything about it (first was a book, then a mix album, then the film - ah, I see it's not been released yet).

Amazon S3 is great for smaller amounts -
I back up my most important backups there using Super Flexible File Synchroniser.

Amazon have online access, or you can use free version of Cloudberry to check out the contents (I keep forgetting to check... :-[ )

JavaJones's review of CrashPlan:
Not-so-mini review of CrashPlan backup software

(mouser got there first)

This would bother me:

The file format it backs up to seems to be proprietary. This is understandable but a frustration for some, and a deal breaker for others.

I think Attachment Extractor would cover your request - but I only use it manually (to a custom folder) so cannot say for sure.

He does give a warning on the add-on page that it might not be fully functionally.

More on-topic ;-)

I'm reminded of a series of videos recommended here by app - it's a different slant:

"Is our response to music hard-wired or culturally determined? Is the reaction to rhythm and melody universal or influenced by environment? Join host John Schaefer, scientist Daniel Levitin and musical artist Bobby McFerrin for live performances and cross cultural demonstrations to illustrate musics note-worthy interaction with the brain and our emotions."

Full playlist here: http://www.youtube.c...t=PL5BD17DD8540C180B

it's slow to get going. 10 videos alltogether, all with the same annoying long intro... But it is interesting if you have the time (I mostly just listened to it myself).

^ yeah, thanks Renegade. I dont want to derail this thread, but I couldnt let that pass.

General Software Discussion / Re: color area
« Last post by tomos on February 13, 2012, 09:32 AM »
That's the first problem for the Magic Wand - You must manually select all similar colour patches yourself, which defeats the purpose of doing it manually.

again, in my ancient version of photoshop:
Contigious selected = select adjacent pixels of same colour (or similar colour - depending on the "tolerance")
Contigious deselected= select pixels of same colour (etc.) throughout the image

No idea how to count them though...
and,
as per Ath's post above, I dont really understand the request in the context of the example given...
