Screenshot Captor / Re: Scrolling capture is not working
« Last post by J-Mac on September 04, 2011, 10:55 AM »
Scrolling captures haven't ever worked for me in Screenshot Captor. I have reported this a number of times, as follows:

In December 2007:     https://www.donation...12.msg92920#msg92920

And in July 2008:     https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=14027.msg121297#msg121297

And in May 2009:     https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=3474.msg164701#msg164701

I have tried a scrolling screen capture with every update released since December 2007 without success.  (I'm like that stupid dog who keeps trying to push that same rope around, wondering why it doesn’t go where I push it.) I am now thinking that maybe I should stop. Somehow I don’t think it will ever work in my lifetime...   Agreed?

Thank you,

Jim

I bought my wife an iPad for her birthday in July. I looked into all the tablets and the iPad is simply that far out in front of the pack IMO. Also, I wanted Wifi only and I was NOT going to buy from a wireless company with a data plan.   8)

Aren't they tracking you everywhere already? Or so it's suggested by this researcher. No wonder you can block all the social media crap hanging around websites. And the loading speed improvements are nice.

Thanks Lashiec! I was looking all over for that link (or one just like it I had read) but didn't find it before I posted. So how do you mean "block all the social media crap"? I have Facebook Blocker on Firefox but haven't found any such help on Google Chrome. Ad Muncher's Jeff doesn’t offer a way to block the Facebook junk. When I asked him on their forum he basically asked what web site - he will only respond to requests about individual pages, which is crazy and IMO useless.

Thanks!

I worked for one of the largest electric utilities in the south and our profit margin was predetermined. X% above costs. Rate cases brought before the regulators were purely for examination of the cost and property accounting. Most states have similar systems for their public utilities. Is NH really that different 40hz? (Not sayin' it isn't; I honestly don’t know).

Thanks!

Did you really expect different from the media? The funny thing is that when something big does happen, it always catches them off-guard.

That's because they now have all weather people and got rid of the news people.   :P

The local news here is ridiculous! In this area (SE PA) we're having nothing more than what a Nor'easter usually brings, and we get them several times a year. But they are trying to make this into the "News Story of the Century". Showing their field correspondents (Ha!) standing outside earlier today (Yesterday now, I guess) saying the winds are wicked and it's getting tough to stand outside and the background shows trees and shrubbery not even moving a little bit! When the forecast said the Hurricane had dropped down to a Category 1 you would think someone killed their pets or something. Each of our local news stations now has maybe two news anchors and about 8 or 10 "weather experts". Someone has apparently decided that the news is WEATHER - even when there is none! Saw a reporter today standing in front of a large graphic showing wind gust speeds and the top of the range was 50 mph. He said how disappointing that was and that even gusts at that speed are "extremely dangerous". That's another thing - they haven't reported expected wind speeds at all; only "maximum gusts", which is not the problem; it's sustained winds that cause most damage.

After living south of Miami for years and having Andrew bring our house down around us in  1992, this is downright silly!

Couldn't they just track everywhere you browse to and include that data in with the rest of our data they sell?

I don’t agree with the fourth reich reference, but I do dis-Like that button myself. It is a tracker, nothing more. And what do I care if anyone thinks I "like" a web page? Senseless IMO.

Wow - I never had the problems that Darwin has had! Though to be honest I don’t use a lot of Paperport's features. Actually I don’t use many at all. I don’t see the purpose of most of them. I know: so why did I buy it, right? I received a promo for PP Pro, Omnipage Pro, and PDF Converter Pro. One of those "too good to pass up" deals. I had already been using PDF Converter Pro since the first version so this was a first for Omnipage and Paperport. I was hoping that Paperport was more of a document managerl instead it is purely a PDF organizer, and it doesn’t organize my PDF's the way I think they should be organized. Pretty much a waste for me but it cost me so little I can't complain.... much.   ;)  ;D

BTW, whenever I have tried to have Paperport organize any of my PDF files it actually moves them to the redundant, crappy-named "My Paperport" directory. Then when I am looking for a file I really need and can't find it I remember I need to go through Paperport. It's really just a pain in the ass because it causes me extra steps and doesn’t really help me in any way that I can find. Tutorials are scarce and useless too IMO.

Well... that was a glowing endorsement, wasn’t it?

Thanks!

Thanks for the update Mr. Waggle.

Darn, I forgot I purchased this already! Well, I think I said back then that I was going to wait for the other program you folks are working on - WaggleDMS I think it was. Any progress on that?

In the meantime I have Paperport Pro installed so it doesn’t make a lot of sense for me to install this now. But I do want a peek at DMS when that is available!

Thanks again!

That's a different animal, rj. Genie and BU4A are "backups"; SyncBack is a sync program, basically creates a mirror. I already use SFFS, but as I said those aren't backup programs. I also use Acronis for images but that isn't a backup app either.

Thank you.

BackUp4All was very similar to GBM. I dropped that originally for GBM because their license was more strict. Maybe I'll check back with them.

Living Room / What Happened to Genie Backup Manager?
« Last post by J-Mac on August 22, 2011, 11:18 AM »
Genie-Soft, the developers of Genie Backup Manager, have apparently abandoned that program and have changed their name to "Genie9". Not sure why since they don’t offer any products with that name. Anyway I found out about the name chage when I received some spam from them today and tried to go change/cancel my subscription with them - the one that once sent me info about Genie Backup Manager Pro releases. I found the Genie-Soft site abandoned except for their now defunct forums, and a new site called Genie9.com. And to think, I never even received any notification about the name or website address changes! (Their junk email still comes from the Genie-soft.com domain).

I used Genie Backup Manager Pro 8 for a few years. Then I started finding errors after one of their updates and I checked their forum and found that a number of users were reporting the same things there, but Genie wasn’t saying much. For a while they kept stating that this would all be fixed with Genie BU Manager 9 but the ETA for that slipped out over a year. Then they just stopped replying, in the forum and to support inquiries. I finally had to stop using Genie because of the problems. In August 2009 I found out why nothing was going on with Genie BU Manager: They had apparently been working on a new product, Genie Timeline. That's an automatic backup utility. Most GBM Pro users refused to switch because Timeline didn't offer much configurability; most settings were pre-configured and not changeable. I received occasional emails from Genie-Soft pushing Timeline; maybe every month or three.

Now today I received an email pushing "Tune-Up Utilities"! Which is not a Genie product BTW. Plus that's when I discovered that Genie-Soft is now "Genie9". Their forum is down and has been for a long time now, even though the emails still come from Genie-Soft addresses. Looks like they still offer Genie BU Manager 8 Pro and Home but no updates have been released since 2009 - the last one I had installed. So I guess that this is now officially "abandonware", since they haven't updated it in 3 years, have not responded to support inquiries in 3 years, and killed off their forum. All they want to do now is sell you a newer product and/or Tune-Up Utilities! If I can't "unsubscribe" I guess I'll be setting up a Sieve rule to send their junk mail to the spam folder.

Hate it when this happens!

Ninja999:

I'm not sure that your comments address the original questions posted by Urlwolf.

First, Urlwolf's questions addressed existing software while your analogy appears to address new, as your building design sounded new instead of a refit. Plus your desired features sound like nice-to-have stuff. What about features that would tend to bring the program up to par with more current competitors' apps? I don’t know myself how difficult it is to add breadcrumb trails but they are a definite valid requirement, if not entirely necessary, for some programs such as file managers. Another is a good search capability in a data clipping and archiving program. If a developer doesn’t feel that's needed - not as a minor addition but maybe as part of a "major upgrade" then that developer will most likely see sales start to sag.

Anyway, I'm not talking "porticoes and bay windows"! I asked a developer of a program like I mentioned above - data clipping and archival - for some search improvements and was told that he felt if his program's search feature found articles relevant to the search then it is successful. (I was asking for highlighting improvements.) Things like that aren't bay windows, at least IMO. But hey - there are other programs that do closer to what I want. Just a shame that I have to start a search for a new program when the existing cost almost 3 figures.

Thank you.

I have Treesheets and I love the look of it; I think it would be helpful for some things I need to do. But I have not had the time to just "play" with it, as suggested by Treesheets itself! It doesn’t appear there is any documentation. Just tells you to start typing and moving sheets around and you'll figure it out. Nice concept IF you have time to do that, but if you don’t you could waste a lot of time finding out!

Of course it is a free app which, IMO, means that features and documentation is purely at the discretion of the developer.

Thanks!

I understand that features requested by users may not be simple to implement and/or maintain, but doggone it some of the relatively big-ticket apps ought to be including such features. I'm thinking of editors and PIMs/outliners that fall into the $80 to $150 price range. Some of those that I have are lacking most of the features that were mentioned in the original post, and even if it won't be easy this is the kind of feature that so-called "major upgrades" are supposed to include, at least IMO. Not just add a ribbon-look GUI. I've requested some similar features and had them refused, not because they aren't easy to implement but because the developer "doesn’t see what that does"!

Hey - I didn't opt in by choice! Well, technically I did but in reality I signed up because someone here a DC formed a "Software Users" group - something like that - and asked DC members to join. So I did, and... hardly anyone else did! And NO ONE here has ever gone any further with it. I posted about a couple times, trying to stir up a little interest but there wasn’t any. And that was back a ways before FB was anywhere near as popular as it eventually became. I still belong but I never even bother to log in - except when I have to go and opt-out of all those nice new Auto opt-in lack of privacy "features" Mark Z. keeps tossing at me!

Windows 7 - and Vista, I think - has its own Windows Speech Recognition engine/program. I understand that it's pretty decent too.

I have used Dragon and I can tell you that the base program is pretty much a demo; you need to use the Pro version, which costs quite a bit more!
