I should add that you need Logitech SetPoint installed, which I suppose you already have.

edit: Logitech make some really awesome products, such as this mouse and also the Harmony remote controls, but what is their software developers thinking... The SetPoint package is 54mb!! I've seen full OS' smaller than that!

1. I bought a Logitech VX Nano mouse. The mouse itself is excellent, precise, elegant, reliable, etc. To my unpleasant surprise I found out that its wheel doesn't click. In fact, it clicks, but nothing happens. When pressed with more strength, it toggles the ratchet-scrolling mechanism and smooth scrolling. Perfect, by the way. There's also a button just below the wheel. It's by default assigned to "One-touch search", which is not a bad idea, but if you don't redefine it to middle click (or wheel click), you can't control some programs that are dependent on it (Google Sketchup, Google Earth, and auto-scroll in many applications). Even if you do, you're losing some productivity, because pressing the wheel is something different than moving the finger to another button and you have to think of it all the time and you make mistakes. Yes, it's true Logitech nowhere mentions that the wheel is clickable. But I believe this is the only mouse in the world, including all other Logitech mice, that lacks this feature.

And now tell me: Am I too demanding, or just naive when I'm buying things based on evidently wrong assumptions? -- Anyway, you've been warned at least.
No, you're not too demanding!

Having said that, I can highly recommend uberOptions. I have the same mouse as you (actually, the previous model, not nano.), and installed uberOptions and I can now configure everything about the moust! I use the little search button to Alt-tab, for instance, and I can click the mousewheel allright (can't remember not being able to do this before, btw). This really is an excellent enhancement to logitech mouse!

Yes, i too think 55 is a bit too hot, so after taking the screenshot I started updating my system beginning with BIOS. :) Currently at 46, so hopefully it's a bit better now.

Since we're on the subject, this is a laptop and I wonder if it's normal that the laptop gets a little hotter than the desktop computer?

thanks for your suggestions, PPLandry, but unfortunately Reggie couldn't help me. Same thing happens. So basically anything that touches ksdhtmledlib.ocx will just eat CPU like there's no tomorrow

There's most definitely some conflict between ksdhtmledlib.ocx and something on my system, but I haven't got a clue what I can be. I should post to the yahoo group you mentioned earlier. I'll get around to it eventually. Thanks for your help

Ok, more progress, HTML editor could not be opened, ok, so what I did, was delete the new created files in sql folder (options.ini, settings.ini, and a file named dock and menu.

then when I started sql notes I did no longer have some docked um... things on the left (that said "feature reqests", "journal" etc). Then I made new file, and 'lo and behold, there was the grid and I could edit it and save it. no problems

so seems much like the html component is the culprit. Strange that I'm the only one experienceing it, though...

Actually I think I did close the HTML pane at one point and now can't open it  :-[

But what happens now, is that if I create new file, it freezes. However, when I open sql-notes again and open the created file, I see the grid, with some column headers, but then it all freezes so I can't change data...

[I'll post to your forum eventually, but just wanted to post about latest progress here first]

Ok, so I've cleaned up my system a bit, removed a lot of temporary junk and also stuff in the registry. (and apparently not broken anything!  8) )

Then I've tried installing again. Same thing happens, but this time I didn't kill the setup.exe process tree. I killed regsvr32 directly instead, but not before looking at what it did:

System Explorer [SystemExplorer.exe] Screenshot - 21.03.2008 , 23_51_29.png

So it seems it can't register ksdhtmledlib.ocx for some reason.

Well, after killing regsvr32, the setup would actually finish and show me the final message and the box with launch sql-notes, so I clicked ok or finish and sql-notes launches. But then again when creating or opening a file, the freeze again, and looking at the process, sql-notes naturally wants to use ksdhtmledlib.ocx...

I tried manually registering it, bye typing regsvr32 /s ksdhtmledlib.ocx, but same problem happens. regsvr32 will just use lots of cpu and nothing happens. not in the couple of minutes that I let it use cpu that is... I'm not gonna let it fry my laptop ;)

I have no idea what next, but I understand ksdhtmledlib.ocx is some sort of ActiveX html component? I've searched my computer for another version, thinking there was some conflict, but no results. Not references to it in the registry either. Speaking of registry, is there some way to manually register it in the registry? Not really a solution, but a workaround...

to be honest if my registry was broken I think I'd notice this in other ways than just suddenly through an installer... I'll see what can be done though.

What happened after killing the setup was that I can launch Sql-notes, and open options and see the interface, but opening or creating a file will freeze the prog, as noted earlier.

Not sure I'd use your app, but I'd like to try it properly and find out what's wrong.

TucknDar, try uninstalling it and reinstalling it again, and then copy the latest build files into it.
Well now, uninstalling something that isn't properly installed doesn't work... and thus reinstalling doesn't work either. 8)

I'll look at your other points if/when I get it installed

Yes, I'm using the installer. It stops at the Registration screen, and regsvr32.exe eats my CPU. I have to kill it.

Armando, you're probably right about it being a good thing to stop other applications, but I don't think I've ever done that before installing anything ... ever. At least not for quite a while, so I'd be surprised if this suddenly was the problem.

I'm on XPsp2 btw, and thought this might be related to using an alternative shell (LItestep), but this was not the issue, since I've tried it running the regular explorer shell as well.

PPLandry, I searched your forum for regsvr32.dll, but as you indicated, this only brought a problem installing on Linux to surface...

weird

Ok, so I've tried to install this thing twice. First time was about ... 3 or 4 months ago, I think, and second was  a couple of days ago. Both times there were problems with installation, the installer would just hang, so I had to kill it. But apparently the program had installed. So I fired it up and wanted to create a new file, which according to the website would give me a sort of template to start with. That didn't work. Froze SQL Notes...

What did all of you do that made this work and makes you such big fans? I'm really curious and want to give this a proper runout!

Yes, should probably go to their forum, but I did look around and the only part of the forum for installer problems, seems to only concern Vista. I'm on XP... and the only one in the world with installation problems?

Forgive me if I sound mad or whatever, but I just want to see what's so great about SQLNotes :)

Seriously, nirsoft offers a bunch of exellent utilities. Good that someone made an installer, although I think I'll still just let Website-Watcher tell me when Nir Sofer updates his stuff. Can't seem to donate to him though...

Somehow, it doesn't quite work for me. I added the alias, but running the command after bringing up FARR does nothing. :(
Ok, this is a bit weird, but it seems that on my system USBDEVIEW actually lists the wrong drive letter for my usb portable. Did you check to see if this might be the case for you too?

I use USBDLM to manage drive letters, and my Cruzer micro drive is always assigned to G: but for some reason it's listed as K: in USBDEVIEW. So 'eject G' won't work whereas 'eject K' works although the drive is definitely assigned to G...

boy, makes me happy I decided to go with OneNote2007. Do so many people really want online-dependent apps? Weird. I guess the next step will be smaller hard drives included in computer, yet more ram :-\
