Living Room / Re: Great examples of humorous 3D CGI creature art

So I just looked at an animated GIF of the Carrot Run while it was a work in progress. Erm.. It's not a 3D CGI. It's a digital painting. In fact, it may be that all of the Imaginism images are digital painting rather than 3D rendered CGI.

How come nobody else said anything about this game? The reason I didn't was because I'm so far behind on unread threads here at DC that this is the first time I've seen this.

It's a really cool story, but I wonder how that bug made it through testing. :-\

This is the only one that made me laugh, so it must be my favorite:

Funnycreature 29 in 45 Humorous Examples of 3D CG Creatures Artworks.jpg

Description: "Every year, a young member of the Fuz'hy Lindt Tribe who has come of age must prove his worth by donning the blessed regalia of the sacred carrot and leading the Tribe on the Great Hunt. Only the fastest and bravest of warriors will ensure a successful Carrot Run, providing food for the Tribe through the winter."

Notice that the little furry creatures names sound like "Fuzzy Lint"  :)

they aren't really flexible enough at the moment but you can see the potential. i'm sure when they get going we'll see screens that can be folded a lot tighter than a wall poster - i hope so anyway. if they don't make them flexible enough to fit in a wallet or pocket i won't be impressed.

But would you really want to fold it in half? I wouldn't want the creases in my screen.

Deozaan, very sorry to hear of your problems with IDM. I've frequently used IDM for 8 years, like it, and never had any significant issues. But I can certainly understand your frustration.

If you recall, could you please tell if you had enabled IDM's "advanced browser integration"? Just curious if this may have been a factor.

I can't remember for sure if I did or not. Either way, it should have cleaned itself up when I uninstalled it.

I don't think Space Quest allowed you to get past a certain point without something you needed. Then again, I suppose it is possible.

But yeah, I do remember dying. A lot! There was one particular spot near the beginning of SQ2 where you'd have to navigate between the tentacles of a human-eating-plant. I died so many times doing that--and without remembering to save so I'd have to start from the very beginning--that I finally got through it by taking about two steps, saving, two more steps, save again, etc.

I played one of the King's Quest games, but never managed to get more than 20 minutes into it. I couldn't ever figure out what to do, and I'd just get killed after wandering around long enough. Might have had something to do with my young age at the time though.
It's not without good reason that the (LucasArts) developers mocks Sierra (the makers of King's Quest) in the Monkey Island 2 "director's cut" commentary ;)

Monkey Island games were/are fantastic. But as I said I also loved the Space Quest games, which were also made by Sierra.

So I found out that my problem was caused by Internet Download Manager (IDM). Even after I uninstalled it, it apparently hadn't cleaned itself up very well as the problems persisted. I did a format and an OS reinstall about a month ago and haven't had trouble since.

IDM sucks!

other idea -> one application can only once take part in NANY,
so next time the application will not be new.

This is exactly right. One of the NANY requirements has always been that your application must not have been released before (or is basically a complete rewrite, thus making it new).

Living Room / Re: Awesome photos
« Last post by Deozaan on September 21, 2010, 01:08 PM »
What I find most interesting is how most people don't seem to care that there's a camera around. They don't look at the camera, they don't smile for the camera, they don't put on a pose for the camera.

It's a bit eerie, making some of them seem to go into the Uncanny Valley (for example, the child on the bed with her eyes open, or most of the folk at the dance).

When did smiling for a camera become the thing to do?

And all these years I thought its purpose was to prevent the screen/window/application from scrolling.

Americans, the pioneers of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll

Yeah, the rest of the world didn't even know what sex was or how to perform it until the Americans invented it! ::)

I'm pretty sure sex and drugs were around long before America was an idea in the minds of humanity.

As for Rock'n'Roll, as an American I'll gladly let my great nation take credit for the invention of that. :D :P

What does the Scroll Lock key do, anyway?

I mean besides toggle the LED on my keyboard.

Just a note about the Browser edition. The gameplay seems different than the full version. I can't quite put my finger on it exactly, but the speed of various things seems different.

Count how many fat people are in there.

I did see one "larger" man in photo 12.

I'd also say it's probably not fair--or accurate--to blame it all on one singular cause (sugar/fructose) since so much of the modern lifestyle has changed in the past 70 years.

IE9 now scores 95/100 on Acid3, better than firefox 3.6.

I just did the Acid3 test with Chrome and it got 97/100.

Sure...but will it support animated PNGw (.apng)?  FireFox 3 & Opera 9.5 already do. XnView seems to support it also.

Hmm... It seems as though the latest version of Chrome (6.x) still doesn't support Animated PNG either. . .

That's cool. I've embedded the video below for lazy folk like myself. I've also included the new video of 235 games in 10 minutes. I've actually heard of or played a lot more from the second video than the first one.
