Screenshot Captor / Screenshot Captor running 2 instances on Windows startup
« Last post by tomos on April 23, 2012, 09:40 AM »
After the last update (via dcupdater)
I was offered the option to start with windows for all users.
I clicked yes without particularly thinking about it (it was already set to start with windows, whether with all users or not, I cant say)

Next reboot I got this

Screenshot - 2012-04-18 , 14_10_48.png

the only app I currently have installed for checking on startup programmes is Winpatrol(Pro). It says:

Screenshot - 2012-04-23 , 16_31_46.png

I tried disabling one of them, seemed to work (but I didnt check too closely to be honest). Today though I notice there were two instances of SC showing in the tray.
I closed both and used FARR to open it to take screenshot for this post. It was an older version (2.xx.xx).
I closed it and used the same entry in FARR to open it again, and it was the most recent version.

so things are getting weird around here :D

Not sure even if this is SC's fault, but maybe you have an idea or a recommendation?

PS I notice CH&S also has the same two entries in Winpatrol & that works fine here...

Very pretty and quirky but I am really not sure what you are trying to achieve.

mouser has always said that he feels that dc is not the right place for political and religious subjects. He's often ignored, but that wish does keep most of those discussions in check, which is helpful imo. I dont consider that censorship.
I've never seen a post censored here in the sense of removed.

Thanks, I'm up at 5.5GB mainly due to lots of large Tiff attachments.

How long did it take? Slow here...
It stopped a couple of times but seems to be running okay now.

It's a bummer that you cant just remove attachments in gmail...

To add to the dabate here is another Twitter Jail Sentence:

http://www.guardian....mp;CMP=FBCNETTXT9038
[Student jailed for racist Fabrice Muamba tweets]
-Carol Haynes (April 18, 2012, 04:17 AM)

a couple of related articles since then on the Guardian

Student who abused Fabrice Muamba on Twitter 'should not have been jailed'
Thomas Hammarberg, the European commissioner for human rights, calls Liam Stacey's 56-day sentence excessive

Don't jail tweeters – that's not where the real racist problem lies
The criminal justice system is targeting racist individuals while endemic discrimination in Britain is allowed to prosper

Does it really make such a big difference with load time?

I rarely open large PDFs, certainly with "normal" sized ones I'd stick to Adobe Reader these days (in spite of having no love for Adobe). It opens quickly, loads quickly, displays well, and is the best reader I know in terms of navigating & zooming around/in/out.

also, is there any other better alternative?

FireFox and Adblock plus, with filter set for your region, is what I use.
Dont know if it's better, but I'm sure it's a whole lot easier...

Are there any congressmen who are tech literate, or are we doomed to suffer the consequences of their ignorance?

I suspect that even if they were tech literate, we'd be suffering the consequence of their indifference.

I didn't say above:
XYplorer does *not* create an index - so something that indexes the files, like locate32, will be faster.

How about Locate32?

XYplorer has a bunch of tabs for searching. So you can search for various things - e.g. a filename (or part of it) and content from within the file.
See where the mouse arrow is? You select which aspects you want to search for & the relevant tabs are highlighted with blue text

- xplorer² is more powerful than XYplorer? or XYplorer can do everything xplorer² does?

They are both very respected -
each file manager is going to have some pros and cons...

It would be interesting to see an objective feature comparision of the major file managers...
This wikipedia article will give you some idea - http://en.wikipedia....son_of_file_managers

I like XYplorer a lot but am not a "power" user so cant really comment (also I'm not familiar with xplorer²).

XYplorer has a very fast search - a bit more advanced than a box in the corner though!
But can also be used fairly simply...

And for those who like to do precise cropping after the capture, from within the Screenshot Captor interface, comes this new screencast video, teaching you how to use keyboard shortcuts to nudge the selection in different ways:

AOL had a couple killer ideas. They got washed out by the forces of time. I don't recall a screen ever like that, I was as loyal as they came.

if you look closely at the screenshot, it says Kids only -
I dont know what exactly it was, but that's maybe why you missed it.

We had to put my dog Molly down today. She started having siezures, went blind, could barely breath on her own, and was in a constant state of panic. And all of that happend in just the last 2 days. She was a rescue so we don't know her exact age, but I'd say she was 3-ish when she came to us ... and we've had her about 13 years.

I'm sorry SJ...

had to go find her:
And Here's Molly (She's a rescue) by our pool:

Molly was only supposed to be visiting for a weekend, but she curled up in my lap that Saturday morning ... and never left. To be honest, I caved in less than 20 minutes.

Develop limits on the ability of the fossil fuel industry to influence policy debate.

There's a phrase for that... It's called "silencing the opposition".

The woman is advocating censorship.

maybe.
She's referring to PR campaigns by the fossil fuel industry to influence public perception of global warming and related science (she gives a link in the Wired Science link from Iain above - [PDF link: "How ExxonMobil Uses Big Tobacco’s Tactics to Manufacture Uncertainty on Climate Science"]

(Again, I dont subscribe to censorship, but I dont subscribe to Exxon's tactics either - but I think the best "solution" is simply to publicise it.)

General Software Discussion / Re: detect color in pdf
« Last post by tomos on April 12, 2012, 08:09 AM »
I'm curious why you need this kalos.

Related:
A few years back I sent a PDF for publication, it was vector "line-art" (black only) with "Black" text - it should have been treated as a one colour (Black) print, but for some reason the file insisted on been treated as full colour at their end (or maybe it was their layout software that insisted on treating it so). I dont really have much experience in this field, and the person I was dealing with at the publishers didnt really seem to be much of an expert either. We narrowed it down to the text, but couldnt figure out why it was so (as said, it was simply black text). To be honest I cant remember what exactly our solution was, we converted the file to "greyscale"/Black in some manner.

So, anyways, just curious :)
Also, if there is a solution, I'll certainly have a go at checking some PDFs... out of cusiousity :p

I didn't really mean to point out her out so much as censorship - which has been reversed, so that's a good thing.

And no matter how nutty anything she has to say is or isn't, I'm certainly glad that she CAN say it. :)

yes, very true
