If your AV is slowing your system down I would say get a better/more efficient AV.
-Carol Haynes (April 30, 2012, 01:52 PM)

FWIW, I stopped using Avira because of this. I'm now finding MS Security Essentials is slowing things down a lot more than it used to...

Does Picassa's collage do what you want?

Drag images to bottom left of window.
Then -
menu: Create >Picture Collage

You will have to right-click image to get them to zero rotation.
To resize/rotate: click in the middle of an image. A circle should appear - you can rotate using this. On the right-side of the circle there's a red dot (similar to radio-style-button) - drag horizontally to resize.

AFAICS there's no way to figure out original size of the image. They are pre-resized to fit in the "page".

Collages get saved automatically in My Pictures\Picasa\Collages. You can also "Save as".

Yeah, best of luck Stephen!

I had similar queries to TaoP. I reckon it will be hard to compete with online or big-store offers. OTOH, these days I'd prefer to buy from a local small supplier, even if it meant paying a little more.

And lately I had the frustration of spending a lot of time and also some money trying (without success) to find the problem with a machine. So your no fix no charge offer sounds good.

Re the gifts, I prefer the Kickstarter approach where you get something physical & known for your money. Could you give a voucher towards a machine? or towards hardware; or repairs. A lot of that would probably never be cashed in. Redeemable in 6 months, to give you a bit of time to get off the ground. Just thinking off the top of my head here.

PS it would be good to put some info in the about me link.

@c.gingerich, WebResearch Pro looks very nice - can it save PDFs (or other filetypes) as well?

I will ... extract pdf pages ...
[..]
- I want to easily add material of various formats, pdf, images, tables, text, without any problem (eg without pdf text's format to break, etc)

you will probably have trouble with the PDFs (as usual ;)) - some PIMs will save a PDF within the file, or link to the file, but I've never heard of an app like this that will extract pages from a PDF. Copying text from a PDF is usually a disaster from the format point of view AFAIK.
But maybe someone will know of something out there that can help...

Just weird to suddenly get that after all this time. Not like my email address changed or anything. At first I didn't even remember what the heck Todoist was!

Maybe someone just found their email list?

Or, they're doing a Rip Van Winkle on it...

how much of all that stuff above is really true.

What I'm wondering, is how many people here get the pun in the name? (Put it in a spoiler if you know.)

I dont get it, but what with your Australian connection, I'm wondering if
Spoiler
it's something in some weird Oz accent :p and the -ru is (kanga-)roo?

I thought I saw a HDR image in the View from my Window thread :)

Can you regulate how much HDR? - I'm not sure how to phrase it, I've never done anything with HDR -
I mean can you regulate how much detail is drawn out of the shadows and how much is added to the highlights? I always liked the idea of extemely subtle HDR: where you get more shadow detail & more colour in the highlight areas - but where people dont actually see that it's HDR...

From what you say,
The hi lights of SNS-HDR are probably the accuracy of the automatic alignment & deghosting of the photos to be combined
I presume the photos dont have to be taken with a tripod

Oops! That's why my utilisation was down to 14%!! The cap just grew a bit bigger, that's all.

Thanks for the tip re Winkey and Plus/Minus key. I hadn't known that one. Handy.

Dont remember where I picked that one up, but I noticed an article about the magnifier in Windows Secrets newsletter a while back: they were saying to go to the start menu and type m a g n i . .
So I sent them a mail saying the same as above. They responded by sending me a $25 voucher with Amazon.com - so I reckon they didnt know it either. I didnt know they gave vouchers, but I was happy to get it ;-)

My experience with enlarging everything (laptop with win7, classic theme, to 125% I think) was fairly disastrous** and often very ugly.

? Maybe the easiest solution would be windows magnifier ?

when you need to check the icons out, use the Winkey and plus (+) symbol to enlarge the screen. Zooms in wherever the mouse is. If you want to go back to 100%, you have to release the Winkey and then press it again with the minus (-) symbol. A magnifier symbol stays active, you can close this by clicking it first, then close.

** problem was that dialogues were often too big for the screen - windows dialogues as well. Lots of software doesnt cater well to this option. There's loads of space wasted - wanting the text/icons bigger doesnt mean we want to waste space - especially not on a laptop with average resolution (as of 2011 anyways) and a 16:9 screen

The C2 form. Half way down or so.

that prints fine here too... (well the first page does. Figured that'd do)

I decided it was to time consuming for me, and I needed to do a back up of everything anyway, so I decided to use Mail Store to download all mail and then delete the older mail. Unfortunately mailstore gave a bunch of error messages which I haven't had time to look at yet so I'm stalled.

Saved by the bell :)
BTW, google seems to increase gmail quotas from 7.5 to 10 GB, simultaneously with the google drive launch.

Which form (there's a few on that page)

edit/ Adobe printed the C1 form fine

General Software Discussion / Re: W7 taskbar>toolbar>'desktop' extremely slow
« Last post by tomos on April 23, 2012, 04:52 PM »
This makes me think that the delay I have complained about, only was caused by Windows waiting for the 65 icons to display, so to speak. Meaning, Windows would first take (a lot of) time to load the icons, and only then display them in the menu.

I dont think that's it - I have seen windows really struggling with desktop shortcuts, but I think it depends on the shortcuts (as opposed to the icons).
Earlier I created shortcuts from a "GodMode" folder, similar to as suggested here, the shortcuts were made on the desktop so I had tried the toolbar >Desktop - more or less instant display with 278 shortcuts/icons on the desktop...

EDIT/ I see you've edited ;-) ---> ---> if I make them all hidden, they just dont show  :D
So,
I still think it's to do with the shortcuts - but presumably more to do with how windows reads them - I mean if TLB has no problems with them...
