Found Deals and Discounts / Re: 3 TuneUp 2008 for $40
« Last post by Curt on February 02, 2008, 10:32 AM »
As time has gone by I have come to really dislike words like "Fully-automatic clean-up of your PC" - so No, I don't use TuneUp. I have the one from Ashampoo, but I don't use that one either. I don't even dare to use the combination from WreckedCarz!

Really nice program, Darwin. However, I very much dislike that the $20 Mophy Accents will occupy every AltGr+ combinations - I mean, don't we all have some combinations occupied by other programs? I certainly have!

General Software Discussion / Re: What is your boot time?
« Last post by Curt on February 02, 2008, 08:40 AM »
I usually light up a cig and hit the start button, then I most likely leave my appartment, not closing the door, and stand on the gallery, watching the city, until I can hear Skype is logging on to my account. By then I will have finished my cigarette, so the hole of the procedure must have taken about 8 minutes. Other than that I am using Statup Delayer with extreme headroom, 10 seconds for each program, so my startup procedure is: 30 seconds for initial boot and side-page defrag, 90 seconds for XP, 30 seconds for programs starting before Startup Delayer, making it 2½ minute before I can use the machine..--..but then 4 more minutes plus a lot of launching time for the rest of the company, making it a total of some 7 or 8 min.

I launch my XP several times a day, so I do smoke a lot...  :-[

General Software Discussion / Re: Maxthon 2.0.8 beta supports IE/COM plugins
« Last post by Curt on February 01, 2008, 11:24 AM »
I tried Maxthon 2 (not beta) just a month ago but still like 1.6 better. However, it is clear to me that most of the new addons and plugins are being written for version 2 only, so one day soon I will be bound to give up on the Classic anyway. I just hope for Maxthon 2 to be faster than so far, and to give me back my Maxthon Start Page in the way that I want it to be. Also, I must be able to add any search engine.

But I didn't try it for long and I didn't take notes on my experience, so maybe I have forgotten or just didn't figure out all of the options and it can already do what I am asking for? Hmm... I better remember to try the next version! You will remember to tell when the stable version with these new features have been launched? Yes, of course you will, Darwin.  :-*

Welcome to DC iconico

a rather late welcome?  :P  :

But he is offering an impressive amount of programs:

Cardio Calipers - Cute Context Menu - Data Extractor - DiskAnalyzer Pro -Easy Sweeper - Email Extractor - Extraction Pack - HTML Text Extractor - Quick Runner - Screen Calipers - Screen Compass - Screen Protractor - Screen Tracing Paper - Sleepy - WebTools Pro

- I wonder if he wrote all of them himself?  :-\

However, Screen Measurement Pack (Screen Calipers, Screen Protractor and Screen Compass) was mentioned in his first post almost a year ago. I for one would sure like to see this bundle offered at Bits du Jour again!

« Last post by Curt on January 31, 2008, 03:02 PM »
Thanks for the headup, Darwin, but No, I removed the folder at once when I uninstalled the program, and besides, I am using a startup manager.

But I too will like to make it clear that I found Online-Armor to be quite a good firewall, only, I had this one or two items...

- yes, I was trying version 2.0, and I only clicked the two options, Optimize Harddisk and Processor ("By removing limits and disable useless checks to make full use of your harddisk and your processor") and Optimize Applications ("By removing limits and disable useless checks to make full use of your harddisk and your applications").

Really, stay away of these auto optimizers.

Maybe it would be appropriate to distinct between this, these and some.

I installed and ran it on my test machine and it made a good difference.

BTW:
- and with option to restore.

---

Will check it out some more after work or tomorrow.
I, for one, will be anxious for your report and findings on this.

- me too, cmpm.
How big a difference do you think it made? How many and which options did you activate?

The only two problems I have found after the first 24 hours of using Online Armor Free are 1) ....-And 2) that Online Armor is too intrusive when I want to uninstall some program. Why on earth must it know if it is okay that I am running an uninstaller?

This mis-feature turned out to be too much for me. The final nail was when I wanted to remove IconBee and had to confirm 3 times that I really wanted to remove the thing! Online Armor is way too intrusive for IT testers.

Online Armor too has left the building...

January 16' has come and gone, so the price for Laplink Gold 2008 is once again $90, but I have come to realize that Gold 2008 includes both Acronis Tru Image 10 ($50) and Lavasoft File Schredder ($30), so even $90 for the lot seems an attractive price, I think.

none of the "more info" links on that page work

- you already were at the "more info" page.  ;)

Edit: But I need to know if one can choose which features to activate, or if they all are implemented at once?? I really don't want my XP to look like some Win 95   just in order to make it faster...

I don't like the idea about sticky links. When 'we' post about some giveaway / offer it is because we have an opinion abouth the program being offered and we want to tell that THIS giveaway / offer is different from all the others.
