For online tracking of it, there's a tumblr: http://resistaksim.tumblr.com/

Warning- some graphic images there.  More than pepper spray being used, so be careful if you go!

A hosting package that includes CPanel includes 3 different webmail interfaces and also gives POP and IMAP access to the same accounts.

Most hosts will also offer secure connections - but to use your own domain name securely you would have to buy an SSL certificate.

Yeah... but the UX on those standard mail interfaces is one of the reasons I went away from using my own.  All of the alternatives I've seen on hosts have really sucked.

SquirrelMail?  Horde?  Bleh.  And Roundcube is only barely better.

smartermail and atmail are pretty good.  In addition, there is a good comparison on Noupe.  It's pretty old, but its how I found atmail.

My personal recommendation would be to use a commercial webmail solution, and point it towards your own mail server, especially if you want a well developed user experience.

I'd actually petition that the whole conversation about what went wrong be moved to another thread... where things of this nature should probably be done from now on to keep the discussions out of the humor.

Watched Banlieue 13 the other night starring David Belle, one of the developers of Parkourw.

Great movie!  District B13 for anyone looking for it in the states.  D13:U was as usual a cash grab, but even though it suffered in comparison, it's still worth a look aslo.

Mouser, buy some dark chocolate--there are a ton of studies that indicate eaten in moderation it's not just ok, it's good for you. Antioxidants, lower blood pressure, happiness (because dark chocolate is better than no chocolate!)...

Even better... what I've gotten as a treat is dark chocolate covered pomegranate seeds, with no added sugar!  It's not as sweet as a normal treat, but it is still good.

General Software Discussion / Re: Best method for a dead simple web site?

Hmmm... I'd actually disagree.  If you want a dead simple installation... wordpress is as dead simple as it gets.  Now there's more behind the scenes as you add stuff on... but to get the basic themes up and running, even self hosted, you can do it with very minimal technical experience.  It just depends on who you get for hosting at that point.

I use Slice for this, and it works very well... and includes tracking.

And also there are some places that don't want you to download and use the image, but rather link to it.  Is this a hard and fast rule mouser?  Or a preference?

Actually, speaking from experience, in the short run wordpress.com is less work, but in the long run, it's way more work, and way more hassle.

As she visits other wordpress sites and sees the cool things that they have, or her needs evolve, you're going to be hampered, nickeled and dimed, and restricted by wordpress.com.  With your own site, not so much.
6062
Can we just take this as a learning experience and get back to the silly humor rather than the rationalizations/explanations?    We're never going to agree on everything- that's what makes DoCo cool in my book, the ability of such a homogenous group to let things go, and discuss the commonalities rather than argue about the differences.  And to let things go when it seems like we're heading down such a path.  I think that everyone has been on both sides at one point or another.  It takes a community to keep things together.

To help... a gif.

With Wordpress.com you can at least

export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog.

Self-hosting sounds like more work to me  ;)

It's actually not... .and not as daunting as it may first appear.  And you definitely get a *lot* more flexibility for the effort.  If you're looking into doing it, I'd suggest taking a look at one of the links I posted earlier- you'll see it's quite easy.

General Software Discussion / Re: Help needed with computer problem

I haven't actually spent three days... more like 3 hours at the most.  And considering what my wife uses it for (photoshop, lightroom, other photographic stuff), I can't just get any computer, unfortunately.  The 5 fans are including the two on the CPU heat sink, two in the box and the one on the video card, so it's not as many as it seems.  One draws air in from the back, across the heat sink, then out of the other side.  The airflow then goes through the video card and back out the back through the last fan.  I upgraded that prior to this when the CPU was having heating problems, and they brought it right down to spec.

But thanks for the input.

Porn blogs are marked as nsfw, and can be fitlered from the stream inside the tumblr news and also never came across places where tumblr is blocked. Which are these places that blocks tumblr? I never knew tumblr porn was that bad. I guess i never come across hardcore stuff, due to my feed being bombarded with comics from "cyanide and happiness" and other comic strips.

Most filtering companies are not known for their granularity- no one wants to be the one hit with the problem when they *don't* filter porn.  I know at work I can't get to tumblr AT ALL.  I had a yard sale tumblr, and it was blocked.  It was also blocked from several other places...and that's when I noticed that tumblr in general is classified as such, including on larger filtering sites such as OpenDNS.

It's definitely a problem to keep in consideration.

Living Room / Re: SSD's - How They Work Plus Tips
« Last post by wraith808 on May 28, 2013, 09:14 AM »
I swapped to an SSD for my system drive about a year ago, and couldn't go back to a hard disk. The increased speed is worth it, to me. Although I used many of eleman's tips when I first installed the SSD, I recently moved my browser cache to the SSD to speed up browsing. I'm willing to take the risk of shortening the SSD's life for the speed it brings. The SSD is imaged regularly and all important data lives on hard disks.

My main computer doesn't have an SSD, but my media computer does.  When my wife's computer died recently, she started using it full time until I replaced it.  I'm very surprised to see that with an SSD, it's only a little slower than a full sized computer.  And it's one of those book-sized computers.  It's a given that there's some things it can't do... but the SSD makes a huge difference.

I personally think tumblr is the most simple when it comes to website and blogging.

The one thing to keep in mind with tumblr, is that it's full of porn.  Why does that affect you?  If you don't have a custom URL, you'll be blocked some places just because you have a tumblr address.

The reason behind this is that it looks at the image as it was originally.  Edits don't change the baseline as much as they layer them, thus making the same image appear as the edited image.  If you look up Nancy Reagan, it's pretty obvious that's not actually her picture as edited- she doesn't look like her husband....  :-\

@x16wda: Apologies for my ignorance, but is that US Pres. Regan? If so, then cruel to dress him in drag (or was he that way inclined?).    :tellme:
What uniform was Pres. Clinton dressed in in that photo I submitted above? Do you know? Is it a US military one?
I think I saw news photos of Obama dressed in that ceremonial Kenyan uniform, or something, a couple of years back, but I don't know of he ever wore a US forces uniform. I gather that all US presidents are/were "Commander in Chief", but I'm not sure if that necessarily means they have/had a uniform.

I think the point was that the one for Obama was not a uniform, but rather the traditional dress of the country he was visiting.  The one for Clinton was a band uniform from high school.   Both have been used in political campaigns, in the exact fashion shown here, rather than for humor.

But CPU+MB won't do anything.  Which is why I'm going with what Stoic said.  I sort of knew it... but I was hoping I was wrong.  There's no codes at all for the no ram.

haven't tried taking out all gfx cards... but I have switched it out to no avail.  Do you think that it might be the card slot or something?

Yup... restored the bios to defaults.  Actually tried it both ways... with defaults, and restore... and both had the same results.  The only thing I didn't try was flashing it, but I have doubts that could be it unless someone tells me otherwise.  never seen a bios that needs updating start flaking out like this...

The CPU is tied to the MB.  So if I get the MB hoping that it will work... I can't really return it after installing.  So then I'm tied to the 775 socket.

Well, I guess it's the money.  $200 is a lot more than $60.  But then if it's the CPU, that CPU is running $70 when I can even find it... bringing the cost up to $130 for two year old tech.  And the fact that the CPU isn't available anywhere for rush shipping at a reasonable price.
